    OK, I know nothing about the guys the Astros traded...who is any good? That seems like a lot for Tejada.

    It's very, very easy to idenitfy the differences between the people from the different regions/countries of Asia. I blame movies more than anything for making people think they're hard to tell apart, since they'll often, say, cast someone who is Thai as Chinese, or someone who is Japanese as Korean, etc., etc..

    This makes zero sense. How will he ever be ready if he can't play? How are we supposed to know he's ready if Theriot is getting most or all of the playing time? People use minor league numbers to get a good idea if a player is ready to basically put up or shut up. Cedeno is at that point. Put him out there from the start and let him play for at least half the season. If he fails, then Theriot comes back until we get a new SS and he gets to be as medicore or worse as we all know he can be.

    Theriot translated mediocrity in the minors to worse in the majors. That's clearly the better choice for 2008.

    Before the season starts, there is this thing called Spring Training. There are also several leagues in the offseason - which I believe that Cedeno is taking advantage of. Then he should have the job already.

    He shouldn't make bone-headed baserunning mistakes, or have a clue at the plate so that Lou isn't forced to play Theriot. He needs to mature as a player, in other words. Got that? And how exactly do you propose that he does this without playing?

    Wow? I didn't ignore the age of the players, because the age of Cedeno and Theriot is insignificant - unless the Cubs are banking on either one of the two guys to being the SS of their future. So, why should the Cubs suffer through having Cedeno learn "on the job?" Sure he has plenty of talent, but mentally he is not a mature player - as you can tell if you note his baserunning miscues, his mental errors defensively, and his mindless approach at the plate. I'd love for Cedeno to pull it all together and take the SS job, but until that happens Theriot is best option on the Cubs roster. It's not a "man crush" or hate for Cedeno. Their ages are anything but insignificant. So you want Cedeno to "mature" as a player, but he shouldn't take playing time from Theriot? Gotcha.

    Maybe you could cut a slice of that hypocrisy pie for Ryan Theriot - since he had such a miserable first season? Wow, way to completely ignore that one of the main points of this is how relevant a player's age is to this kind of analysis. At 22-year-old putting up bad numbers in the majors...typical. A 27-28-year-old putting up those same numbers or worse and getting more playing time...that pretty much defines who he is. He's not going to magically morph into a different player that far along in his career.

    Repeat after me: Cedeno was 22 in 2006. Ryan Theriot was 27 in 2007. Do you see how that maybe might be a factor in Cedeno's numbers? I don't understand how people can be this blind to fact. I don't give a rat's what Cedeno's age is. Until he proves that he's a better player than Theriot, he will be sitting on the bench. I'm sure he has upside, but we haven't seen it yet at the major league level. Wasn't Cedeno also really good for about month or so in the majors...just like Theriot? Why does Theriot get "credit" for that but not Cedeno, especially since Cedeno has been much better at all the other levels and at a younger age?

    It would take the equivilent of "more" than Rich Hill to get Greene, actually. So it's rather pointless to even bring his name into it anymore. Furthermore, if the Cubs beat out San Diego for Fukudome, does anyone honestly believe the Padres would turn around and trade one of their best players (Greene) to the Cubs as well? IDK. how bad do they want Prior? Obviously not very much, if they had offered good value for him the Cubs would have traded him without a second thought. He doesn't have to be traded on his own. Use him as part of a package.

    Not true. If you're talking hitting leadoff, both DeRosa ad Murton would be better options at #1 or #2 due to the fact they get on base at a much better clip than Theriot. And if the Cubs snag Fukudome and Roberts, he's pushed even further back on that list. Theriot is perfectly serviceably backup player. I don't wish him ill or even off the team no matter what since he can play a role...but that role is not as a regular starter or hitting anywhere near the top of the lineup.

    I agree, but I also think he is our best option right now and he will continue to be until next year's FA market with Cabrera, Cintron, Furcal, maybe Guzman and Edgar Renteria are out there. In terms of age, defense, ceiling and minor league performance, Cedeno is our best in-house option.

    Yeah, that's it. It couldn't possibly be that it's glaringly obvious that he's not good enough to be an everyday starting SS on this team.
