  1. Why would we be better with Matsui playing and not getting Fukudome?
  2. So does this change parts of what they'll be likely to be asking for if they move Santana?
  3. Eh...don't get me wrong, Santana is an amazing pitcher, but he doesn't really address their most glaring needs. Hill put up some really good numbers...but remember how frustrating it was how little run support he got? How does Santana fix THAT?
  4. [expletive], this is depressing. Just get him signed, fools.
  5. Wuertz, Howry, Marmol, Wood, plus assorted vets and rookies that they already have. Please focus elsewhere, Cubs.
  6. If they're looking to trade him, everybody will know that anyway. Remember in the middle of the season the majority of ML executives already thought that Prior would be non-tendered. Any reports coming out the last few days have done nothing to lower Prior's value. I hope not. I really just want the Cub to get a new deal with him done. Trading him at this point after everything that's happened would be so anti-climactic.
  7. Both Sportsnite and Chicago Tribune Live on Comcast had brief stories about this last night, and both leaned very heavily to the idea that he's going to be traded, making the contract talks sound like just a formality. If they really are leaning towards trading, wow, way to go by driving his value even lower by framing it in the context that it's because an extension couldn't be done. Damn Cobs.
  8. Great idea. Selling as low as possible is always smart. Almost as smart as spending 14 for a guy on the DL. Who, aside from a poster here, said anything about $14M? There's not a chance in hell he gets that much. Wait, wait, wait...I said it, and only as the high end estimate of a deal where he likely met all of the incentives in the deal offered. Please don't toss that out there like I said the Cubs or anyone should just pay him $14 million per, because nobody said that. You still listed a guarantee (6-7m per year) that is obscenely high, given the circumstances. That's $12-14m guaranteed. They could just offer arbitration and probably pay him $3.5m or lower this year and worry about next year much later. I wasn't sure how that would work. I didn't think they could get away with paying him a lower base than what he's already making in terms of what Prior's side would accept. I figured it came down to negotiations and Prior's side would have wanted to see some kind of significant return if the deal is for two years. If the Cubs can get away with lowballing him, then I hope they do.

  10. Man, I hope this gets done. What's he making now, just under $4 million a year, right? So maybe if they offer him $6-7 million per with incentives that could get it as high as $10-12 million per for two years?
  11. If it has anything to do with getting Fukudome, or betters the chances of getting Fukudome - Kaz Matsui is not going to hurt this team. Uh, yes he will. Matsui will still be the same lousy player with our without Fukudome. It would be solving one hole by creating another.
  12. Marmol is wasted as the closer if he even sniffs how well he pitched this past season.
  13. Agreed. Plenty of absurd trade proposals show up here constantly, but at least they typically offer up what we perceive as the Cubs' best prospects. Looking at articles and mssage boards involving the Yankees and Santanna are often really ridiciulous in how may people think that the Yanks can basically rob the Twins of Santana with player packages that are downright insulting.
  14. Oh, I'd definitely prefer using what we have to try and get someone like Cabrera or even Tejada. Santana is great, but the Cubs need key offensive players that are going to come out there (almost) everyday and ideally have an impact.
  15. Hey, at least the first official Cubs' hot stove signing is a good one. Please keep it going, Jim. Welcome back, Kerry.
  16. So he can go 17-10 with a 4.00 ERA? No thanks. Not a chance in hell that would happen. I counter that with the numerous scrap heap acquisitions they've had who have given them a season or two of randomly good to awesome production. Rusch is exactly along those lines. Yea Kip Wells and Mike Maroth looked fantastic for them this year. Hey, it doesn't always work out, but their success ratio the last few years with those kind of players is absurdly high. One thing is for sure, Rusch would absolutely own the Cubs if he pitched for the Cards. Magic Cardinal voodoo, crappy pitcher and he's a soft tossing lefty? Dominance.

  18. That's why I put myself on a daily aspirin schedule in addition to trying to eat better and exercise.
  19. Damn, things like that and clots and the like scare the hell out of me. Poor guy.
  20. "Ty Cobb" is definitely one of Soundgarden's worst songs, and was a very clear sign that their end was right around the corner.
  21. Hey, fake troll account strikes again. Do you really believe that?
  22. He does? How has he proven that he has the ability to return to 04 form? He hasn't proven that he can't. If Prior comes back without a loss in velocity, there's still the potential out there to be much better than '04, let alone as good as. If you don't think Prior can get back to '04 form, then go ahead and cut him loose, but I'm of the opinion that this was a guy who's been pitching hurt for the better part of 4 years, and to set him free now that he was actually diagnosed properly is crazy, and frustrating. I'm not saying he can't return to '04 form, but he definitely hasn't shown the ability to do so yet. All we've seen from Prior since '04 is constant injuries and inconsistency and ineffectiveness when he has pitched. Actually, he was pretty effective in 2005 when he wasn't injured, too. 2006 was the only year where he wasn't able to pitch well when he wasn't on the DL.
  23. Not only was he racist; he also abused women. http://baseballguru.com/bburgess/analysisbburgess02.html Lemme see if I have the argument right... This is more clearly evidence of his hot temper, not racism or abuse of women. Uhm...seriously? Did I get it wrong? I was trying to get OMC's point of view. Dang, and I was reading OMC's posts so closely too. I'd say you got it wrong, since even OMC agreed that those examples are likely clear examples of his temper, racism and violence towards women.
