  1. Dear Lord. UNLESS HE IS TRADED, DEROSA IS THE SECOND BASEMAN FOR THE CUBS IN 2008. Sorry for the "shouting," but the running theme amongst Theriot supporters that he or even Fontenot or anyone else should sniff 2nd base over DeRosa is one of the more absurd things in these threads.
  2. At least 2? He only really had 2006. If that's your argument, why should Theriot get another shot? Because he helped the team to the playoffs and he didn't suck. The first part has no basis in anything concrete outside of your own opinion (nevermind that anyone on the team "helped" make the playoffs...even crappy Trachsel won a game) and the second part is blatantly wrong based on nearly everything used by professionals to evaluate a player's performance. Look, Cedeno could very easily never "get it." Nobody here is saying he's a sure thing. In theory, Therior could improve and again approach the brief period where we saw him really excell...but it's not very likely given his minor league career and his age. I don't think either should just be handed the job...I just find it ridiculous that people think the job should be Theriot's to lose when he was worse than Cesar Izturius. If the Cubs don't upgrade SS from the outside, Cedeno needs to be seriously considered. He's no sure thing and he should have to show that he's improved consistently like he showed at the end of 2007, but to think that Theriot is a significantly better option simply isn't realistic at all.

  4. And that they add at least one serious offensive impact player. For better or for worse, one of them is going to have to sit in that regard, and I have a feeling it's going to be either Cedeno or Pie.
  5. This is the Cubs we're talking about. They dont believe in "selling high". They only move players too early or too late. Which has what to do with our theoretical proposals? Because the Cubs aren't likely to do it, we can't talk about it?
  6. The Pirates make 0 Sense to me. Every time they get a potential top player, they go and trade him at his peak. I understand a team wanting to replenish their farm system, but whats the point in doing o if you just get rid of these guys as soon as they get good? What good is he otherwise? They're not really close to competing at all...what's the point of having the one big name when he can help build your team with multiple players?
  7. Because now is likely the only time you could relatively "sell high" with him. Move him if a better SS is on the horizon and Cedeno is the backup. Done and done. Or vice-versa with Cedeno going if need be, but since Cedeno is younger and better defensively, might as well move Theriot.
  8. You poor bastards. I'm so sorry.
  9. Pshaw. Dude gets pumped. Good for him. I love how deliberate he is on the mound and how he gives everyone the crazy eyes. Pure entertainment.
  10. To hell with the haters...I love the insane passion of Valverde.
  11. see ya, Lou. my biggest HOPE is that Piniella is replaced by Girardi... Why?
  12. I'm not thinking the D-Backs will last much longer. If the Rockies win tonight, they're just one win shy of having won 20 in a row. The momentum they have now blows what the Cardinals had last year out of the water, and they're actually a good team. I'm going to be really surprised if they don't win it all and become the 3rd of the 4 most recent expansion teams to go to and win a WS series before the Cubs finally go again. The Rockies have won 7 in a row. They were beaten by Brandon Webb on the 28th to break up an 11-game win streak. A win tonight makes 19 of 20 heading back to Colorado, so your point stands that they can pretty much do no wrong right now. EDIt - I guess that's what you meant by a win shy. nm. Yeah, I could have worded that better, but I wasn't sure how.
  13. I don't think there's any truth to this rumor, but if there was, I'd hope the Cubs would see how good a deal they could get as opposed to just flat out saying "no."

  15. Compared to what we're getting from Theriot? I like the riot, but he just didn't bring his game consistently this year. He had a great month when we were hot, and he was definitely a spark then. If Soriano continues to lead off, DeRosa should be hitting 2nd, not 5th/6th. That's why we need to figure out a decent option for RF who can hit in the middle of the order. Cedeno will not hurt us hitting 8th behing Soto. I think the consensus is that neither are good enough, and that we need to go outside the system for a SS. But if it comes down to Theriot vs. Cedeno, I'd go with Ronny. Ryan was just awful for the last 2 months of the season. and ronny was worse for five months of 2006. When you get down to it, both were good offensively for the very end of one season and for about a month then over the course of a full season.
  16. I never said Theriot was better than DeRosa, what I did say was a interrogative statement asking why one automatically assumes DeRosa instantly gets the job at 2b over Theriot-if Theriot is forced from short that is-without competiton during spring training. Haha, what? And DeRosa should automatically be given the job because he's better than Theriot. The same reason Derrek Lee won't be battling Darryl Ward for the starting 1B job in Spring Training. Did you just compare Lee-Ward and DeRosa-Theriot? I really hope you didn't, I'm disgusted at the comparison. i'd say those comparisons are fairly similar. No kidding. DeRosa really is that much better.
  17. Sorry, that's what happens when you try to snip quotes quickly :D. It's fixed now. Heh, thanks. I was being nitpicky, I know.
  18. This is absurd. The insane love for Theriot just keeps getting nuttier and nuttier.
  19. Dude, fix the quote function on your post. It looks like you quoted me trying to sell Theriot.
  20. Just because he's not going to repeat 2005 doesn't mean he should be moved out of the 3 spot. His power is fine as he showed in the second half this year and there is no reason to move him in the order. I don't have a problem with Lee in the #3 slot if the Cubs get at least a little power boost elsewhere. I've been in love with the idea of batting Lee #2 in the off chance that the Cubs do get someone huge like ARod for a while now. Having someone like Lee batting #2 gives you the OBP you want up there and likely gets Soriano getting on base more and seeing more fastballs to smack. I'd have Lee at #2 and Soriano at #3. Soriano has high power and low OBP, Lee has average power and high OBP. It's silly to have Lee driving in Soriano instead of the other way around. It was especially silly when Soriano had the bad quad slowing him down. That's only suggestion about moving Soriano that has made sense besides hitting him #4.
  21. Well, there's another season nobody has to worry about the Reds.
