  1. How much of a kiss-ass to the rich do you have to be to believe that a $600 million real estate development investment was some kind of altruism. They didn't choose not to use public money. They begged for it and didn't get it, and instead they used their own money *because they knew they would turn a profit on the development*. Yuuuuuuuuuuuup.
  2. There's not a terrible coach, abusive player, or scumbag billionaire that this guy won't side with.
  3. Why don't they just make the whole outlet out of profit?
  4. They're making money off of the team. horsefeathers their profit margin. When it costs so damn much to go to the games and the entire area is essentially being turned into a bro and yuppie Disney World for alcoholics, they better pay out when opportunities like this come along.
  5. A) Celebrity net worth is dumb B) Tom accounts for maybe 1/5 of the ownership group that is the entire family. C) The team can easily afford to pay Harper. Yeah, the family net worth is, I think, something like $5 billion. They are scum.
  6. And horsefeathers them even if it does happen.
  7. Man, horsefeathers the Ricketts if this doesn't happen. These horsefeathering awful billionaires are a loathsome necessary evil in pro sports to begin with; their one "job" should be to spend what it takes to win, especially when someone like this rolls around. It's not like they'd be pissing money away; they'd just be making less of it. horsefeathers them, and horsefeathers their dumb ass hotels and horsefeathers and whatever the horsefeathers else fucked this up and made their pickled little dicks shrivel up even more at thought of being slightly less hideously wealthy if they signed Harper or Machado.
  8. Oh, how nice of them.
  9. He won't be able to get out from under the thumb of BIG OKLAHOMA NEWSPAPER.
  10. From excessive capitalization to no capitalization.
  11. To be fair, imb also likely has a pretty great stockpile of jerkoff stories.
  12. I'm just saying, if it was something more serious beyond, say, the guy was in a car accident and is doped to the gills on painkillers (which is still incredibly serious), I just don't see them putting out something with the tone of the announcement, or waiting 5 days to do so. Who knows; maybe his wife is refusing to give him internet access because he's a giant boy with two cartoonishly broken legs that need to heal and she can.
  13. I thinking/hoping it's more that he's their most high profile writer, he has a bunch of stuff coming out now that people expressly come to the site for, so it's something they had to make a statement over because people were going to be wondering where he was.
  14. That's your FIRST thought? I've read A LOT of Drew Magary's stuff. Good point; nobody likes a lonely hotel jerk more than Drew. Also don't know why I thought I was replying to 17 Seconds.
  15. That's your FIRST thought? Damn. dexter likes to get down.
  16. Great tweet-Twitter photo synergy.
  17. Everyone in football is ugly.
  18. Yu's like Heyward in that he seems like a really good dude, and that tops any frustration I have over any kind of a letdown performance vs. the big deal they signed.
  19. Yeah, I don't see them getting anything decent back for him. I think all the value would be in that it would be likely the Cubs could get a team to take all of his salary this year for not much in return in the way of players.
  20. Beyond Russell's situation being awful because it's so awful, it gets a little added suckiness because of how the Cubs went relatively quickly from basically have a traffic jam at 2B and SS to, "OMG, I hope Baez can keep it up at SS, and I hope Zobrist can stay alive at 2B." Zobrist looked so good last year that he would have been a prefect candidate to easily move this offseason to free up some money. Now they arguably can't move him because they need the MI depth.
  21. That dude's hair makes him legit.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet]
  23. Mmmm, yeah, if there's anything that's going to lure a team to taking on that horsefeathering millstone of a contract, it's guys like Happ and Schwarber.
