  1. I guess what this selfishly comes down to is I want the Cubs to come storming into things like the Winter Meetings, and everyone is all, "WHOA, LOOK OUT, THE CUBS ARE HERE WITH THEIR MONEY TRUNCHEON." I want the Cubs to be the despised Midwest version of peak Steinbrenner Yankees. All of this, "we spend a lot of money, but we try to be coy about it AND we maybe scare easily from awesome signings when we get some turd signings" is lame. Like, I don't want them to just keep chucking out Darvish and Heyward contracts left and right, but I don't want them getting scared from signing guys like Harper or Machado because dudes they spent on who came with pretty big red flags didn't or haven't really panned out yet.
  2. But hey, Tom sits in the stands among the common folk, and he and his wife porked in the bleachers or whatever, so he's cool, I guess.
  3. People should be pissed at the Ricketts at all times. The best they deserve is simply varying degrees of pissing people off.
  4. Dude's gotta come back here just so "concussions are actually good" can be his user status.
  5. Why wouldn't I? Simple: for them to spend more of their awful, awful money on the baseball team I am a fan of. I don't care if the Cubs have the 4th, 3rd or highest payroll in the NL or all of baseball; if opportunities like this come around, I want the obscenely rich owners of my team to spend what it takes to get it done. I get absolutely nothing out of them having a larger profit margin, or being relatively more responsible with the baseball budget; in fact, we get the exact opposite, since they have shown they have zero qualms in increasing how hard we get blasted just trying to go see this damn team in person regardless of how much they do or don't spend. If we have to pay like they're spending FU money, then I want them actually spending FU money.
  6. By definition any owner of the Cubs will be a billionaire, so nobody can defend the owners who have made the team as financially strong as they’ve ever been and as successful on the field as they’ve been in literally over a century? And, Harper still hasn’t signed elsewhere yet... Correct, all sports team owners are scum. They are a necessary evil to tolerate, at best, in the hopes of seeing our sports squadrons fulfill our wildest sports fantasies. They deserve zero credit for anything except when they provided the needed money, and even then they deserve nothing from us because we have nothing compared to them. Their hideous egos and coffers are satisfied without us mewling and being grateful for them having more money than the rest of us. Their "job" is to pay for what is needed. If they choose to maximize profits over this, then they have failed.
  7. This always manages to apply for *INSERT BILLIONAIRE HERE*:
  8. Blargh. I just read that, and now I'm worried it was something like a stroke or an aneurysm or something. This sucking stinks. I'm super worried about this guy I don't even know like he's some old drinking buddy.
  9. God, I just saw a picture of Ted Cruz and it made me hate the Ricketts even more. GET FUCKED, YOU DILDO FACED ANUSES.
  10. Probably because according to things like Spotrac the Dodgers have more money to work with (though I dunno what their luxury tax situation is, so whatever), and they have more of a history of an FU approach to money.
  11. It's almost like a guy getting his baseball news filtered through a Cubs message board is missing the hot Dodgers goss...
  12. No Offense, But Adam Ottavino Would Make Babe Ruth Look Like A Sack Of Pig Assholes Worth it for this guy's comment:
  13. Holy horsefeathers! They're sorta trying the basketball version of the College of Coaches!
  14. [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. Didn't we decide that Loxas was a questionable source? So far the optimistic reports are from Plesac (not based on actual news just speculation), Dicaro, Charles the Cat and Tom Loxas. The pessimistic reports are from everyone else. Well than it is even weirder to be upset about it then. I think it's weird to think that the Cubs have to scramble to make it work to "fit" Bryce Harper in to their self-imposed budget....WHEN HE SUPPOSEDLY WANTS TO PLAY FOR THEM...is good news.
  16. "Guys, I'm a once in a generation signing and I want to play for your team!" "Ooooooh, ouch; don't know if we can fit you in between the Guy Fieri Chug 'n' Chow hotel & casino, and the kickbacks to the Proud Boys. We'll get back to you!"
  17. That just makes me even more furious.
  18. Somewhat surprisingly, it likely isn't (according to FG). In terms of projected value or their projection for contract for him? How much they claim he was worth $$$$-wise the last couple of seasons.
  19. Somewhat surprisingly, it likely isn't (according to FG).
  20. Plus it's been such a vital position on all teams now for so long. At this point it's kinda like someone deciding they don't like seeing LFers in the Hall since that's where you dump OFers who can't really field.
  21. I never understand this.
  22. He’s looking for that casino from Vegas Vacation The Ricketts' MO:
