  1. Same as Jacque...it's mostly about the money.
  2. How about if you have a counterpoint you make it instead of being Cryptic McDickwrappedinanenigmaboxedinariddle? I'm not saying all of it was OK in baseball, but most of these guys were "busted" after the fact, and most of those non-conclusively. It's diversionary BS.
  3. Yes. Times a jillion. Plus infinity. Punchbuggy yellow.
  4. just wait until Clemens, Bonds, etc. aren't elected. At that point it should just be shut down They've kept Rose out for something off the field for decades. People still make the pilgrimage to Cooperstown. Trust me, they won't miss Clemens and Bonds one bit. Rose was one guy who willingly and repeatedly broke established rules in baseball. The "steroid era" players are going to keep piling up outside the door despite only a few of them being "caught" after the fact largely through heresay and innuendo for something that wasn't against the rules at the time, all in the face of how they arguably saved the game post-strike. Steroids were against the rules since you were in elementary school. Steroids were against the rules since you were in elementary school. Steroids were against the rules since you were in elementary school. Steroids were against the rules since you were in elementary school. Steroids were against the rules since you were in elementary school. How many freaking times does this need to be said? Most of the key substances of the steroid era were either banned by MLB after the fact or most of the players accused were "caught" (and I use the term VERY loosely) after the fact.
  5. I'm a big weather guy, and I think storms like this are awesome when they aren't interfering with the Cubs game. Normally I do too since typically if I get caught in them something is always open near by and I can find cover in, but after 11 at night by St. Michael's off North, everything is closed. I was tempted to pound on the doors of the Twin Anchors and demand sanctuary and ribs.
  6. I got caught when the second wave hit full force about a mile from home (walking) and the thought of death seemed distinct and waving at me.

How many of these guys do we really want in there anyway? Palmiero? Yeah, that's who I was focusing on and not guys like McGwire, Sosa and Bonds.
  8. The weather report seems pretty wretched for today and tonight.
  9. I think dealing with him is that bad...We need an actual 3 hitter though. If you keep him at first with his great defense you can get by with him batting 2 or 5 or 6. We need an actual 3 hitter though or a guy with pop which leave obviously doesn't really have anymore at the 3 spot. That's my take. I don't think we need to get rid of him we just need an actual 3 hitter. And it would be easiest to fill that slot by finding a corner outfielder with some pop, and the only way that happens is if Kosuke is moved to CF for the rest of his time here, which I have no problem with. Use Pie as part of a package to net a corner OF masher.

  11. One of the worst "fights" ever. The batter stopped way short, clearly expecting to get held back before throwing a punch, so he goes into some old timey boxing stance, and the pitcher starts hissy-slapping.
  12. It's basically a crime he's not in. If he dies before he's inducted...man, that's just evil. Anyon have any more clips and pics of Ron in his playing days? Google doesn't have much. I'd love to find a great quality shot of him doing the heel click for my desktop.
  13. My issue is how many teams will be looking for a first baseman this offseason? Baltimore? San Francisco? Perhaps Kansas City? Unless Billy Butler can show why he was a former uber prospect. Maybe the Yankees. Maybe Detroit. Personally I would like to see Perry and Lee work on Lee's swing. For a big guy, he shouldn't be putting the ball on ground, he should be booming them onto Waveland. But apparently this yr, Lee has decided he rather be like Willie Mays Hays instead of Pedro Serrano. I don't know, his numbers seem to be hovering around his career stats, and wouldn't be surprising to see him stick around there. I really wouldn't mind the Cubs looking for a new #3 after this season since the power boosts from guys like Fontenot and Edmonds aren't something you can really count on. Lee would still make a damn fine #2 or #5 hitter, though I have no idea where the Cubs could get another big bat to play. Fukudome's basically blocking that option.
  14. Soto is from a future evolutionary point where humans communicate through thought, and he's trying to force the Cubs to evolve.
  15. I hope the Cubs broke Sheets.
  16. Is it though? Public squabbles aside, Stern likely realizes more than most just how much Cuban has done for the NBA in that area of the country. His support shows the other owners that whatever incidents have happened with Cuban as an NBA owner, the benefits have far, far outweighed the negatives. He's the Manny of sports franchise owners.
  17. No other fans in baseball have the weight of 100 successive failures on their back. Give 'em a bit of a break. You'll see major change in the attitudes of Cub fans when the Cubs finally do break through. It's like Pavlov's dog. You keep hitting it over the head, and eventually the poor thing cringes when you try to give it a big fat piece of steak. 2008 is the big, fat, piece of steak -- but many Cub fans are still cowering, waiting for the blow. Well said. It's also a defensive mechanism...it doesn't necessarily prohibit one from enjoying when the Cubs do well, but it ideally softens the blow if they do collapse.
  18. He's a huge one. Yeah, like others have mentioned, he's worn Cubs gear since Rage's beginning and has been spotted at several games.
  19. It's remarkable the Cubs are still where they are effectively sans a #3 hitter for a while now.
  20. You sure about that, Clark? Pirates v. the Cubs: 4-9 Pirates v. everyone else in the NL: 41-40 Don't muddy the water with things like facts and rational observations. It's not fair.
  21. Are you out of your ---SOAPDROPPING--- mind? Not at all. Wrigley is falling apart and is way too small for the crowds the Cubs draw in. It is continually hampered by the neighborhood around it whenever they want to make any kind of significant changes or expansions. Not being able to play more night games is asinine. Not having parking is beyond ridiculous at this point. The neighborhood around Cabrini has really flipped around in recent years and is pretty cool now, plus there'd be a ton of room out there for a new, bigger stadium plus parking. On top of that, if the stadium is positioned correctly, you'd have the Chicago skyline behind the outfield. Wrigley wouldn't go anywhere. Hell, figure something out where the Cubs still pla a few games there each year, but I'm all for a new stadium and have been for a while.
  22. Finish demolishing Cabrini and build a new stadium, please. The Wrigleyville property owners and local associations can go eff themselves.
