  1. We'll definitely re-sign him next year, probably try the platoon with Pie out again. He may not be Carlos Quentin or Josh Hamilton, but he was one hell of a pick up off the trash heap. He's maintaining his solid numbers against lefties, and that's good enough for me. I'd rather Fukudome gets moved to center for a platoon so that a big bat can be added as a corner OFer to slide into the #3 slot and Lee hits #2 or #5.
  2. Hoff apparently still lighting it up in the minors.
  3. It's basically "swingbattabattaswingbattabatta-DOOT-DOOT-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT-wickey-wickey-DOOO-DOOO-DOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
  4. Man, Reed Johnson was such a good solid pickup. I'd love to see him back next year to platoon with Fukudome in CF.
  5. Don't hold your breath. Does he even post here anymore? I haven't seen too much of him outside of the Roberts thread. He's only shown up when Sori wasn't hitting or if he commits a fielding blunder.
  6. Yay, Ron!
  7. I wan to see wrigley23 give Sori his props, just once.
  8. LOL To be fair, Dempster was horrendous in 06. No kidding. There was nothing that indicated that he'd be where he is now instead of just having a fluke seasons as a good closer in 2005 and a starter ruined by injury and surgery. It is funny seeing that stuff after the fact.
  9. Why was signing Carlos Lee a bad idea again?
  10. Anson was one of the elite when it came to really hating black people. There's few who can touch him.
  11. It's frustrating that I'm going to North Carolina this weekend and the Saturday has 0 chance of being the Cubs.
  12. Maybe Plesac will bring the Big Blue Train with him.
  13. Crap, I didn't plan to be in a coma on Friday.
  14. Oh well, the team that's not going to ever be first in the division for the rest of year won a game. Oh dear.
  15. And now to pitch for the Cubs: a gas-soaked Vietnamese monk with a match.
  16. I can only assume the Cubs know something that we don't...or at least I hope they do since he really only had, what, 3 bad outings this year?
  17. OK, then nobody who has ever broken the law can get into the HOF. Whoops.
  18. I've said it before. It's getting really irritating that people keep repeating this stupid meme that things weren't against the rules since Bush I was president. It reflects horribly upon the sports journalists who covered this originally, and it's particularly annoying because the best big-exposure treatment of this in recent years seems to have been completely ignored (a 10 or so page ESPN article back around 2004) In 1991, the comish declared all illegal/controlled drugs against the rules. He specifically mentioned steroids and all controlled substances (HGH being something covered by this) Interesting. I had no idea Vincent did that. Why did Selig seemingly have to start from scratch? Something about Vincent's notice/memo must have been solid enough, otherwise Selig could have just used it as precedent. That said, not everything these guys were accused of using was always illegal during the steroids era.
