  1. Did the Vincent memo conversation get its own thread?
  2. What? A jock who was a jerk in high school? Madness.
  3. See my previous post. Sorry walking on eggshells here trying not to offend or say to wrong thing while making my point. Kind of makes me sorry to have revealed my background in the game. What? None of this is making any sense. You said it's your opinion that you think owners view Cuban as a Loria-type. What does that have to do with anything besides your own theory? It doesn't seem based on anything.
  4. What do Cuban and Loria have to do with each other outside of owning sports franchises?
  5. That's gonna cost you triple.
  6. FWIW, he was sort of a victim of bad timing, too. He probably would've used that money on Beltran or someone else better had he had the opportunity earlier. It seemed MacPhail and/or the Trib was unwilling to OK monster contracts. That's not to excuse his poor allocation of resources otherwise, though. For this team I would rather have Soriano then Beltran anyday. I'd rather have Beltran in CF and Carlos Lee in LF with that money. I'd rather have Beltran in CF, Carlos Lee in LF, and Vlad in RF with that money. This.
  7. Interesting. I had no idea Vincent did that. Why did Selig seemingly have to start from scratch? Something about Vincent's notice/memo must have been solid enough, otherwise Selig could have just used it as precedent. Does anyone have an asnwer for this? I'm not tryin to pick a fight...it really doesn't make any sense to me why Vincent's memo wouldn't hae been used as some kind of precedent. wasn't the disconnect that while the league said PED's were against the rules, the MLBPA wouldn't budge on testing for it, basically making the rule unenforceable? So does that mean Vincent's memo was basically moot and meaningless? i'm sure it was well-intentioned. i don't know the history of the commissionership (word?) well enough to know who let the union have so much power I'm really curious about this now since it seems like such a action would have meant a lot more over the last 10 years, but this is the first I've heard of it.

  9. I don't even know what this means. Having the clubhouse to themselves? Who are they sharing it with now that they wouldn't share it with if Cuban was around? I'm confused what you're driving at. Cuban's got a thing for taking really long showers.

  11. Probably not, since their past is filled with so many better players and teams than the Cubs could even dream of.

  13. I love the guy, I really do, but he could never be my favorite Cubs because of the Jekyl and Hyde at bats he puts out there. Sometimes he looks just plain awful and its in the same games where he'll hit a huge walk off 3 run homer. There's not a player ever who doesn't at times look "just plain awful." Hmm oh yes he has the same ratio of good to bad plate appearances as Ramirez, Lee and Fukudome I forgot Neither of us said anything of the sort. You simply said that sometimes he looks "plain awful."
  14. For wrigley23, he's already in the HOF...of his heart.
  15. Team needs a #3. Pie at his best ain't a #3.

  17. Nah. Does anyone on the Cubs right now have a real shot at the HOF besides Zambrano? Harden, sure, if he can stay at least relatively healthy. Anyone else? I love Aramis and all, but is he shaping up for the HOF?
  18. Take a bow, sir. That was magnificent.
  19. In other words, PERFECT GAME ALERT!!!!!!!! Soriano hopping to make the catch near the bullpen mound is scary. He seriously needs to stop doing that. I have no problem with him doing it out in the middle of left field. But when he's 5 feet away from a raised pitching mound, I'd rather he not. Didn't he tweak his hammy earlier this year doing that? And he kept doing it when he came back. It's maddening! Why? The injury wasn't because of the hop. It just happened to flare up then. If it didn't happen then, it would have happened doing, well, anything.
  20. We'll definitely re-sign him next year, probably try the platoon with Pie out again. He may not be Carlos Quentin or Josh Hamilton, but he was one hell of a pick up off the trash heap. He's maintaining his solid numbers against lefties, and that's good enough for me. I'd rather Fukudome gets moved to center for a platoon so that a big bat can be added as a corner OFer to slide into the #3 slot and Lee hits #2 or #5. It all depends on whats available and how much Mr. Cuban wants to spend. Personally, Id like the put all our free agency eggs in 1 basket this offseason and go after K-Rod, however, I dont think the Angels will let him go. He'll get a record shattering contract for a reliever for sure. That is seriously way beyond the last thing we should even consider doing. Yeah, that seems like a terrible idea.
  21. I'd like to move Sori to RF, Fuku to CF, and sign Dunn. =P~ Yes please.
  22. I take it youve given up on Pie? Fukudome's not going anywhere due to his contract. I'd rather maximize him and Johnson in CF where their combined production would likely be fine or better and get a more productive power corner OFer. Lee simply isn't a #3 hitter at this point.
