  1. And yes, that is largely the fault of the MLBPA''s terrible negotiation. But the owner's are shamelessly taking advantage of that AND trying to play the victim at the same time.
  2. That acts on the (IMO) faulty idea that the revenue is ideally supposed to be split approx. 50-50 between orgs and the players, and also leaves out that up through about 2010, the players' revenue was typically approx. 60%. So the players' revenue HAS decreased in the last almost decade, the owners' revenue has gone up, and the owners are responding to the market like the opposite is happening.
  3. All of this is true. It's also true that Bryant has reached that level in every season in which he was "fully" healthy and also was on pace to go well past 6 WAR last year before the injury. It's possible that the injury will limit the finish on his swing going forward and that his results dip as a result. But I'll take bets on the gap between his 2018 and 2019 more than offsetting the dip in Javy's, assuming KB and Javy each play in 145+ games. Any of you doom bonering people want to wager? Just set a simple fWAR over/under for Bryant, you coward.
  4. Years ago it was Tim pooping on everyone's parade about how the projections/expectations for Castro need to be tempered sooner rather than later. Now he's throwing wild haymakers at the idea that Bryant's trajectory might be...questionable.
  5. It cracks me up that it's just assumed that a nebulous, almost season-long issue with "shoulder pain/discomfort" that drastically impacted his performance won't be a thing again.
  6. Theo gonna leave the cupboard legitimately as bare as everyone claimed it was when he took over.
  7. aiming a little high are we? He was at 7.9 WAR in 2016. He was well on his way to that again last year before getting hurt. Even if he only goes from 2.3 -> 6.5 (below his average when healthy), he'll still easily more than make up for regression from Javy. Its still terrible that their best case scenario is their broken superstar isn't broken and that he hopefully offsets the freakish ascension and almost inevitable regression of their temporary superstar. It's especially terrible because they have CHOSEN THIS PATH.
  8. Plus you know what makes even more of a difference than a healthy Kris Bryant? A healthy Kris Bryant AND a newly signed Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.
  9. Sure, but we're stuck with Kris Bryant and his 86-year-old shoulders instead.
  10. Man, nothing from last offseason onwards counts as an FU signing. Baseball = bad.
  11. Well, yeah; I'm obviously going to be complaining when they end up getting signed by teams other than the Cubs.
  12. That or Heyward. If you ignore how Heyward has preformed, at the time it was a total “we don’t need this $184m player but horsefeathers it I want him” move. Plus the direct shot at the Cardinals (and how he supposedly took less money than...the Giants were offering, I think?).
  13. Oh, horsefeathers. I think the most baller signing they actually had was horsefeathering Joe. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
  14. Guys, it was obviously a good signing. It was also a boring signing. It's the kind of signing a team is SUPPOSED to make when they're in the position the Cubs were at the time. I wanted those AND the FU signings. Now especially is the time for FU signings, and we're not getting that or the Lester signing. Or Yu or Heyward or Darvish or Fowler, or even Donkey Teeth.
  15. dont know why i dont have a job in the cubs FO I still wanna find the insane post where I raged along the lines of, "whatever trash fire the Cubs had at 1B for the next X number of years would be infinitely worse than if they signed Adam Dunn to do the same." Pretty sure I said I could be banned if that came true. WHOOPS.
  16. did mojo ever buy that album??? http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=63351&p=3155856#p3155854 horsefeathers no. Gross.
  17. Sure, it was the first big step, it was exciting at the time, and it paid off big. But in retrospect I didn't think the baller FA run would be so brutally short and unimpressive. And yes, that's what she said. THAT'S WHAT THEY ALL SAID.
  18. Without the Lester signing, none of the 2015-2018 stuff happens IMO so it's far from a snore. It's the most consequential FA signing in team history I'm not saying he sucked or anything; it's just boring as horsefeathers. I didn't think the peak FA signing was going to be a mumbly, shiny-faced, giant baby man. I wanted the coolness of the Fowler re-signing, except on a stage that made other teams weep and get pissed.
  19. So what will end up being the closest to the baller FA signing we all assumed/wished/hoped would be the SOP for the Cubs under the current regime? Heyward? Probably not, since he took less money. Yu? Eh; last year was the start of this current trend of offseason horse horsefeathers and he got lowballed. I guess it's Lester. SNORE.
  20. Holy horsefeathers. Who called, "Bill James goes on a murderous rampage" as the big offseason news?
  21. And then everyone immediately proceeds to blow Jeff Frye because baseball is bad and doomed.
  22. And yes, I know this is just business as usual for this kind of horsefeathers...the problem is that this is essentially their ONLY kind of business right now, so I hate it.
