  1. Castro in the game now. Ties up the game with an RBI double to LF in his first AB. JUST THE FACTS.
  2. I can't tell. For some reason it also seems like the guy who comes back with a bat has some kind of unusually gigantic bat.
  3. I was pretty indifferent to McGwire before, but now I kinda want to stand up and cheer for him.
  4. My argument is that Smoltz is not terribly good at this point and that at best one has to cherrypick starts of his from last year to try and argue otherwise. Look at his splits from last season: he simply wasn't very good in any month. Yeah, he was throwing strikes...but he was too often throwing very hittable strikes. Combine that with what appears to be his inability to pitch on consecutive days and he simply does not make a very good candidate to go back to his relieving ways.
  5. That and he was horrible outside of a very brief stretch with the Cardinals.
  6. I'd definitely prefer that option given the likely available scenarios.
  7. Doesn't sound too serious. Given his history it makes sense that they're not going to take any chances over a simple spring training game.
  8. Jesus Christ, it's like night and day between Len and Hawk/Stone. God forbid you want to know anything about the Cubs players, including anything as basic as their name.
  9. The guy was a hell of a player at his position, but I really can't see how he'd be near the top of any kind of list of the greatest football players ever.
  10. wtf are you talking about? ??? Umm I'm talking about Merlin Olsen being one of the best players in NFL history. How huge is your "best" list?
  11. His rhetoric and many of his in-game decisions seemingly deferring to variations of "small ball" thinking too often for my liking.
  12. For me it depends on how hands-on he is with their hitting development, and I honestly have no idea how he is in that area.
  13. Many of us think Sandberg is not a very good manager.
  14. I'm headed out for some liquid refreshment. Later, skaters.
  15. Theriot grounds out to SS. Fukudome walks. Byrd pops out to SS. Millar strikes out.
  16. Pierre grounds out to Baker at 3rd. Vizquel grounds out to SS. Konerko strikes out. Much better inning for Gorzelanny. I think he only threw about a dozen pitches.
  17. Trammell forgot to bring his jersey (he's managing since Lou stayed back in AZ with the other team).
  18. Millar strikes out. Nady strikes out. (He eventually got it to a full count, but Nady must be trying to shake some rust off because he is swinging at almost everything) Fontenot singles into RF. Soto singles into right-center, Fontenot to 3rd. Baker singles into RF on the first pitch, Soto to 2nd, Fontenot scores, Cubs 3-1. Fuld bounces out to 2nd.
  19. Andruw Jones walks. Kotsay walks. Teahen strikes out. Flowers walks. De Aza strikes out. Pitch to Nix bounces off Soto (WP), runners advance, 2-1 Cubs. Nix strikes out.
  20. Baker k's. Fuld pops out to the 3B in foul territory. Theriot walks. Theriot steals 2nd. Fukudome walks. Byrd flies out to RF.
  21. Pierre tries to drop a bunt but is gunned down by Soto, 1 pitch. Vizquel grounds out to Theriot, 2 pitches. Konerko flies out to Fuld in LF. Gorzelanny goes, obviously, 1-2-3 with only 7 pitches thrown.
  22. Cubs are the away team in Vegas tonight. Theriot leadoff with a bunt and then reached 2nd on a throwing error. Fuku grounds to 2nd, advancing Theriot to 3rd. Byrd flares a single into CF, Theriot scores. Millar walks. Nady strikes out. Fontenot flares a single into LF, Byrd scores easily from 2nd since Slappy McRagdoll arm opts to not even throw. Soto singles into CF, Jones throws out old ass Millar at the plate by a mile.
