  1. "Cubs ace Ryan Dempster." Don't ever say that again, Len.
  2. Because that's not what I said. I said I will have watched a lot of baseball this year before I see another defensive play that pathetic. I've already watched a lot of baseball this year. Where you came up with ALL YEAR is why you should probably not respond. Reading comprehension can be a good thing. Please go away.
  3. Really? It was a guy missing a diving catch and then someone else bobbling the ball. Well why don't you nominate it for play of the year if you're so proud of it. It was brutal defensive play. I'm sorry you disagree. Yes, because the only options are thinking it's potentially the worst defensive play I'll see all year or "being proud of it," whatever the [expletive] that means.
  4. Really? It was a guy missing a diving catch and then someone else bobbling the ball.
  5. No. Credited with a triple and an error on Soriano.
  6. What a [expletive]-tastic inning of defense courtesy of DeWitt, Byrd and Soriano.
  7. Wow, DeWitt broke to 2B for that SB WAY too late.
  8. Good. That's what the Ricketts get for setting 1,000 pricing tiers, not generating much excitement, and having a generally crappy team. As fans, let's hope this doesn't bite us in the ass when they cry poor and don't sign Pujols. QFT. If they showed any commitment to building the triangle building or funding any substantial repairs at Wrigley with their own money, people may be more interested. Instead, they thought they had the golden goose and could do anything they want and keep raking in the money and still ask the government to pay for the repairs. It's not the fans fault they overpaid for a bad team with a ton of bad contracts and an outdated stadium. It's not the Ricketts' fault that most of the fans are so impatient. I'm not faulting anyone for not buying tickets or not showing up to games, but anyone who thought it wasn't going to take the new owners a good 3-5 years to truly start flipping this around with as many different things as they need to juggle was just fooling themselves.
  9. Why would we want them to pitch instead of Dempster?
  10. Jeez, such high standards. I still believe in you, Aramis.
  11. Of course not. He just shouldn't have been hitting there in the first place.
  12. What? He was horrible last year. An ERA over 8 as a starter with a WHIP around 2. He was slightly better in the bullpen but not much. He had three starts, one of which he went 6 with 3 earned runs and 10 k's. The other two starts were 3ip 5er, 4ip and 4er. Those numbers are pretty bad and I think the first start is more prominent in my mind. However, he only has three starts under his belt and everyone is writing the guy off. I'd like to see he and Coleman get called up for a couple starts. Way too many walks and guys on base. About the only thing he has going for him is the 10 strikeout game, and those 10 accounted for almost all of the 13 strikeouts total that he had (vs. 10 walks). In the meantime he had a WHIP over 2 as a starter and gave up this line to hitters: .347 .444 .490 .934
  13. No, but if you're talking about guys who aren't stretched out then Shark is in a much worse position than Russell. He and the Cubs approached everything going into this season like he was going to be in the bullpen.
  14. Something like that. It nothing aginst Russell, but hes a relief pitcher. Its what he is. as much as it sucks to lose 2 starting pitchers who happened to look great to the DL, they should use the opportunity to give someone a look see who has a future as a starter. After all, thats how Randy Wells ended up in our rotation. The only guy that really makes sense is McNutt, and I think it's way too early for him to get a start at the big league level. Carpenter isn't stretched out, so he'll only be brought up to fill Russell's spot in the bullpen if Russell is headed to the rotation. Also, Russell came up through the system as a starter. He pitched extended innings in the spring, is already on the 40 man roster, and can swing between the starter role and bullpen. It makes a whole lot of sense for him to make a start or two. Problem is, we dont want McNutts clock to start ticking just yet. and is Russell really stretched out either? We really should have done a better job stretching guys out. Wasn't Russell in the mix to win the #5 slot pretty late in the spring? It's not going to be a huge deal to stretch him out to get some spot starts as the Cubs' #5.
  15. Right. Players whose performances who are that easily swayed by their moods aren't going to last long on a team or sometimes even in baseball period. People who are that prone to regular emotion-based performance fluctuations are usually on a Milton Bradley-level when it comes to their emotional health and mindset, and that's just not very common. Professional baseball players simply are not the emotional roller coasters/lightweights (to the point that it regularly impacts their performance on the field) that some people are convinced they are. That's one of the reasons WHY they're professional baseball players and Joe Blow who stunk in his high school game because he was dumped never got beyond that point.
  16. Yeah, that's all I had heard, too. I hadn't heard anyone comparing him to them in terms of the HR he's going to hit, and I haven't heard Len & Bob doing anything along these lines either. All I've heard are people saying "he's going to hit for more power" and the specific projections hovering around 15 or so season with most of the more optimistic ones projecting him to have a few 20+ HR seasons. Nothing terribly unreasonable.
  17. Yeah, both sound, hopefully, like they're precautionary moves early in the season more than anything else.
  18. What do you have against Diamond? He did alright last year in limited starts. Why not give him a shot? "Alright?" Are we talking about the same Thomas Diamond? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/diamoth01.shtml
  19. No problem moving Soriano up right now. The problem is who is hitting #3. Move Byrd out of there, slide everyone up and then have him hitting after Soto and it's fine.
  20. Hm, that Cashner news is pretty good, isn't it? For the time being. Hope it doesn't end up being something worse once he comes back, but for now it sounds much better than most of the alternatives.
