This is Colvin's line away from Coors Field: .273 .288 .416 .703 Worrying about who got the better deal between Tyler Colvin and Ian Stewart is beyond inconsequential. They took a chance on a formerly highly regarded prospect; that doesn't always work out. Fortunately they didn't have to give up anyone of importance to do so. -

Jokes aside, are you saying that if you were another club, you wouldn't take a risk on Soriano's knee for 5 million total over 2 1/2 years? That's a pretty small risk to take for a player who can still give you a decent reward if things continue to go right as they have in the first half of the year. It's a small risk if they don't give up anything of real value; I think too many here are understating just how gimpy/on the verge of being done for a while he is.

I don't know how the numbers would work out, and I'm not a salary cap guru, but if you lose Noah and Gibson, you ought to be able to keep Asik alongside Howard, right? Presuming this all happened fast enough. Right, I'm thinking more from a timeframe standpoint. I don't think such a deal would have any chance of being done before Asik could accept the new deal.

Seriously, if the Bulls somehow landed Howard it would almost certainly be in the wake of losing Asik, Gibson AND Noah.

Deng is nowhere near as strong a chip as you think he is given the current questions about his health. I guarantee you that if the Bulls come knocking the Magic's demands start with both Noah and Taj.

I'm aware of that, which is why I mentioned we may not know what's going on. Personally, I think we should be in the middle of this Dwight stuff. Because outside of the Lakers offering Bynum, I don't see another team beating Deng and Noah in an offer. But Dwight doesn't want to play here.

Making major changes based mainly on this coming year is exceedingly stupid and overreacting due to the unusual nature of the season with Rose missing so much time. You also can't force something that isn't available; if there isn't a star-level scorer to be had for the right money or the right trade right now you can't just make it happen out of thin air. Assuming their sitting pat only because they're "happy with the team as is" is a faulty assumption. Again, 2014 will have a bunch of good FA options available. It's hardly the end of the world if they basically go into this coming season as is.

I'd like to see them jump into the Howard sweepstakes. If the Nets get Deron Williams, they won't have room for Dwight unless they gut their entire roster which leaves them with D League fodder on the bench. This is obviously contingent on ORL accepting the deal. The Nets are apprehensive about doing that, so that would leave Dwight in the cold with no teams on his "list." The Bulls can jump into the fold and offer an attractive package while perhaps recruiting Derrick to help make a pitch for them. I think this is very doable, but from what I gather management and Derrick are unwilling to employ the necessary strategy to get him. They seem to think like they can win as is. Or they think it's not worth the hassle/loss since he's likely to not stick around after one year. You've got a good FA class coming up in 2014 and they'll have money, so it's not like they need to look for ways to win now like their window is on the verge of closing.
