    It's been posted here several times that apparently Cespedes' first pick was the Cubs but ultimately didn't sign with them because he didn't want a contract longer than the one he signed. Maybe that's not true.

    Christ, that's disheartening. They didn't even really try to get Darvish and in Cespedes you had a player wanting to come to the Cubs and they didn't get it done. If it weren't for Soler it would be time to look for the ol' forehead needle filled with heroin when evaluating their signings thus far.

    He somehow managed to have the second best WAR of his career last year (3.7 according to BR), so I'm guessing teams are hoping for anything resembling that (despite that he's -0.1 this year).

    This is Colvin's line away from Coors Field: .273 .288 .416 .703 Worrying about who got the better deal between Tyler Colvin and Ian Stewart is beyond inconsequential. They took a chance on a formerly highly regarded prospect; that doesn't always work out. Fortunately they didn't have to give up anyone of importance to do so.

    Jokes aside, are you saying that if you were another club, you wouldn't take a risk on Soriano's knee for 5 million total over 2 1/2 years? That's a pretty small risk to take for a player who can still give you a decent reward if things continue to go right as they have in the first half of the year. It's a small risk if they don't give up anything of real value; I think too many here are understating just how gimpy/on the verge of being done for a while he is.
