  1. i'd have an easier time laughing at that clown if the cubs' unofficial mascot were not an obnoxious unemployed drifter. Ronnie Woo Woo isn't a drifter. Being a drifter would mean he would at least sometimes not be where the Cubs are.
  2. I definitely want them to get pitching as the main pieces. I mean, yeah, if for some reason they're being offered a near-slam dunk non-pitching prospects, fine...but I doubt that happens. Plus starting pitching is an area of EXTREME need, even on a team with as many needs as this one. Getting pitching prospects works twofold; you have resources from which internal options at a barren position will emerge and/or you're more likely to be able to trade for quality starting pitching if you have good pitching prospects.
  3. See also Maholm, Paul. Notably, there wasn't anywhere close to the same reaction as the Maholm signing even though we're paying him significantly more. Because, as David said, he plays a more valuable position.
  4. Drop: Kemp Add: Bautista Drop: Smoak Add: Encarnacion Wild Card change: Mike Trout
  5. what the [expletive] is the white sox thing supposed to represent? also the blue jays' mascot is lame. The White Sox mascot is a...thing named "Southpaw." When you think that's ridiculous, please note that this used to be their unofficial mascot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_the_Clown http://i.ytimg.com/vi/c-AH4YTQhwM/0.jpg
  6. And most of the "overreaction" is people like WSR making stupid jokes; most of the "anti-Johnson" posts (if you can even call it that) are very calmly stating why such a signing is a waste or simply questioning the point.
  7. That's still $1.15 million they didn't have to pay. Like TT said, it's just a pointless move; the Cubs are nowhere near the point they need to be paying for a player like him, plus he's unlikely to net you anything of real value in a trade, so why bother?
  8. Holy [expletive], I love that.
  9. Yes, the former GM of the Red Sox has absolutely no clue what it would be like to see a beloved (or whatever Dempster is) player playing for a bitter rival. NO IDEA AT ALL.
  10. I'm just amused that Kyle says they sucked starting in 1909 when literally the very next year they went to the World Series (and again in '18, '29, '32, '35, '38 and '45). Between '09 and '45 they were mostly a mediocre team, except for most of the 30's. That said, I view the true futility as not starting until after 1945.
  11. 2003 was worse for me because the playoffs are a crapshoot and we were never really in the 2008 series. In 2003 a WS appearance was in hand and it slipped out between the fingers at the last second. After game 4 it seemed like it was over and the series berth a formality. Over the course of the 2008 season my expectations were very high (because the team was much better), but the end lacked the lightning quick reversal of fortune brutality that I felt in 2003. Yeah, first round playoff losses are just so anti-climactic for me. I was pissed when they lost game 1 in 2008, but because of what happened the year before and because teams who lose the first game of the first round tend to get bounced I moved to the acceptance part much quicker. I guess it was like when Rose went down in the playoffs this season; everything afterwards was likely just a formality, so it was easier to accept.
  12. 2003 wrecked me for a couple of days, but 2004 is the one that really put me in an extended foul mood for a while.
  13. But he's pretty good when the pressure is kinda high; he's bad only when it's at its peak.
  14. Why would you possibly post this. Legit concern? Historically, Lilly was a better pitcher than Dempster, though Dempster's having a monster season. Also, my memory of 2010 is as hazy as I hope for my memory of 2012 will be by this time next year, but I don't recall Lilly having any injury issues in 2010 and Demp's been on the DL twice, which I can't imagine GMs not taking into consideration when trading prospects for a 2-3 month rental no matter how he's looking at the time. Another example is Edwin Jackson, who had a 2.2 WAR when the White Sox traded him on 7/27, and they ended up getting garbage for him, although he was immediately flipped in the Rasmus trade. You must have to actually try to make points this torturous.
  15. Yikes.
  16. Benefit of the doubt since it was a different thread, but this joke has run its course. Even I it hadn't, Reed Johnson's hitting .302 with an .804 OPS, so I assure you thy their will be some inquiries on him. He wouldn't bring back more than a Hunter Cervenka, or whatever the name of the 1B we got in the Theo trade was, on his own, but don't be surprised if he's moved with Dempster or Garza. FOR [expletive]'S SAKE, TIM.
  17. This morning someone on the the Score referred to Rizzo as the "anti-Starlin Castro," as if Castro is indicative of everything that's been wrong with the team. Eat [expletive], the Score.
  18. Guys, he raised his away OPS 164 points in three days (a big chunk of which is from him going 3-4 with 2 HR in a single game where Stephen Strasburg was the starter); clearly that's a trump card that cannot be argued against in any way, shape or form. Maybe he and LaHair can compare their "Leading the NL/MLB in OPS for several weeks" certificates and give each other high fives.
  19. What the hell is an "ian lover?" And no, it's basically impossible for this to be an awful trade, because we're talking about Ian Stewart and Tyler Colvin.
  20. Prooooooooobably not basing their decision to try and trade for him off of one game (and yes, I know the stretch he's gone through recently).
  21. Hey, to me he's already made a big leap in his baserunning and defense. He's got plenty of time going forward to evolve his offensive game (which is probably why he's going through this stretch in the first place), so personally I don't see a reason to stress over this. Does it suck to watch? Sure, but when people say that they're "worried" I'm wondering what the hell they're worried about.
