  1. Sure, I'd prefer someone like Cuban, but that wasn't a realistic option so I don't really see the point pining for someone like that. I don't really see someone else getting money out of the city any quicker than the Ricketts have; honestly, the whole "waaaaaauuuugh, I'm Rahm and I hate Old Man Ricketts" just reeks of one of the excuses he was looking for to not have to look like he was just giving money from his broke-ass city to the Cubs. Nobody was getting city money. The Cubs have been most fucked financially of the timing of the economy and their terrible, terrible TV deals and now the stupid local issues. It's a shitty, shitty situation, but I actually like how they've found a way out; Tunney is making a stink, but ultimately this benefits both the Cubs and the city as a whole too much for him to be much of an impediment.
  2. I'd love to hear a more plausible rival hypothesis. Anyway, there's plenty of evidence. Well, one such hypothesis is that the Cubs' superior drawing power is due to a variety of factors, not all of which are tangible. In short, the Cubs just have a more appealing brand than someone like the Mets. Part of that is Wrigley field, but I certainly don't think it's reasonable to ascribe all of the extra pull as being due to Wrigley alone. This should be something we can test at least a little bit, although I don't know who might compile this kind of data. Do concerts at Wrigley draw more? Has another team over played "home" games at Wrigley against someone other than the Cubs? How were those numbers compared to their usual? You claim there's plenty of evidence, and I'm generally curious to see what evidence you're thinking of that supports Wrigley Field as the sole factor. The Cubs' drawing ability around the country is based on something pretty tangible; the proliferation of WGN around the country for decades. You couple that with the team coming from a big market that has a lot of expats and retirees to other states and you have most of your answer.
  3. Cedenoooooooooooo suuuuuuucks and is useless unless he can play SS. Don't fall for the troll bait.
  4. Well...no.
  5. YOU USED THE WORD PEAK DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER STUFF AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH
  6. Others suggested he was an idiot and your post seemed to support that by pointing out (bad? dumb?) girls he dated. I don't really know what point you were making. I was really just interested in soccer's response since he seemed pretty worked about it. My point is that he's made some hilarious decisions and he's a public figure and I'm pointing it out because they amuse me; y'know, like people do on this site about pro athletes all the time.
  7. Hey, if has-been child-killing lunatics are your thing, go crazy.
  8. Where did I say he was an idiot? Christ; nobody is saying you can't be an Urlacher fan just by pointing out some of the funnier [expletive] he's been involved with.
  9. Dating both Paris Hilton and Jenny McCarthy aren't exactly highwater marks.
  10. Didn't he make like $80m in his time with the Bears? Not counting all the chances to suck off the advertising teat in a football insane major market? Eh. I may be coming off pretty meatball, but I couldn't care less about him leaving. It sounds like you care quite a bit. Because I had a strong opinion? Come on man, you know how it works: everyone else posting on a message board = freaking out. jersey calling every opinion he disagrees with dumb or idiotic or stupid is just totally calm and rational.
  11. Yeah, I liked what the guy presented in terms of his feelings towards his teammates and coaches and I loved how he couldn't stand the media (which Aramis seemed to awesomely share). I wish he could have ended his career here, but given the overall timeline of his career and I can't really bring myself to be too bummed out by this.
  12. Man, that is barftastic.
  13. As in, he won't even get a contract for next year? No, as in "he's not very good or possibly even useful." If he can get a deal, great, but I don't expect him to last more than another season and maybe part of a second. I think he could be quite useful still. I think $2m is the exact right price and allows you to not do something stupid like draft a linebacker in the first round. I would have been fine with him back at $2 million despite my reservations about his ability at this point. He wasn't and now he's gone. Oh well. Like I said, I don't dislike the guy, but I'm not really bothered by it given how old he is.

  15. I'm not like "[expletive] off," but given how it's clearly the end of his career I really can't muster much disappointment or anything along those lines.
  16. Even if they fall behind Milwaukee they aren't falling out of the playoffs. Why does anyone even think this? There's people who like commenting in this thread that don't actually follow basketball.
  17. Portland took a big steaming dump all over the Bulls tonight. I'm loving the chances of getting a better draft pick with each passing week. Because apparently you're a weirdo with no concept of how many other teams are worse than the Bulls. The ship of this season actually resulting in a truly good draft pick sailed a long time ago.
  18. Oh yeah. That's just someone with a big oversized slab of face.
  19. I don't know what that means.
  20. Probably around 400 pounds.
  21. Because Marmol has been pretty bad while Street has been pretty good. SCIENCE.
  22. Well, considering it's "Chicago politicians" that will ultimately lead to this getting done with Tunney as little more than an afterthought, yeah, you're being kind of ridiculous.
  23. Yeah, no idea why anyone would ridicule something like this. No idea at all.
