  1. Really interesting that he likes Baez's SS defense to wind up better than Castro's. And his comment that Bryant, Baez, Soler and Vogelbach have 40 HR power. Ie Rizzo and Castro better get their crap together. Or else what? It's not like you couldn't fit Bryant, Baez and Soler onto the team when they're ready if Castro and Rizzo are still there. I'm leaving out Vogelbach because he's a fatty fatty fat fat and the NL sucks.

  3. Mr. Bernadina? Mr. Roger Bernadina? Well done.
  4. Yeah, this is worrisome in terms of going into 2014. I don't think it moves the needle much on 2014 even in a worst case scenario. DeJesus has value, but he's a 1.5-2 win player. I'm with Kyle in that I think this is a vote of confidence in Lake. If he even approximates his performance thus far (yeah, far from a guarantee), it replaces most or all of DeJesus' WAR contribution. Sweeney is a wild card here, too. If the Cubs decide to bring him back, I think he's a good bet to provide some value. And there's always the chance of moves being made that we're not anticipating. Nobody was saying DeJesus was some kind of make or break player for 2014, but the general consensus was that the Cubs would (or even should) hold onto him as part of the larger idea that they might make an effort to field a team in 2014 that had a shot at competing. That said, his money could go to getting someone like Choo or Ellsbury, which seems infinitely preferable to counting on someone like Lake, so it could still be cool. Or hey, maybe they trade for Stanton and put him in LF.
  5. Yeah, this is worrisome in terms of going into 2014.
  6. We've barely seen a consistently good Cutler in a Bears uniform. Calm down with all of this "great" nonsense.
  7. No, he just has to be consistently good.
  8. Just about any QB can be a SB winning QB. Yes. Dilfer did. But on this team, Cutler has to be Pro Bowl level. Interesting, considering the defense on this team was the best in the NFL last year. Didn't realize losing gimpy Brian Urlacher made this a team that had to rely completely on its offense/QB to get anywhere. Third in points. But the Bears were going nowhere in the playoffs if they had made it even with a better line if Cutler is not significantly better. The player who plays the single most important position in all of team sports has to be great unless you are on the 1985 Bears or 2000 Ravens. Nah, they can be good.
  9. How long have you been on this board? Long enough to enjoy it when you venture off on one of your little...things.
  10. Oh, OK; you're just saying things.
  11. What are you talking about.
  12. This isn't baseball, where individuals have individualized progress that they control. Jay hasn't taken a huge noticeable step forward with the Bears, but he's been sabotaged by his own mess of a team. If you are going to judge the guy based on only if he takes a noticeable step forward under Trestman in year one under this system (the billionth "year one under this system" Cutler has dealt with) then you aren't getting a clear answer. But he has all the physical skills in the world. ALL OF THEM.

  14. Its really amazing we've amassed THIS much power coming thru the system. Especially when power was the major organizational weakness like two years ago. It's amazing how fast things can change when competent people in charge want them to change. http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/329/301/69e.gif
  15. Hilarious, but pretty damn lame situation in general. From the insane hypocrisy of the Red Sox fans to the ump pretending to have control of the situation to the Sox trying to fight...pathetic.
  16. The rehab gif is the stuff of legends.
  17. the fake rally is often the only point in the game where the cubs' offense does anything at all. if anything, it's the one highlight of most games. Pretty much.
  18. Not really, no. The Cubs scoring a couple runs there or loading the bases or even just doing what they did at least provided me with a fleeting glimpse of entertainment as opposed to if they just went down 1-2-3. I mean, if you're in such a hurry to have the game be over why are you still watching?
  19. Exactly what I was thinking. Yeah, it's saying something that with a team this bad in a game this bad that it was THAT PA that was annoying me the most. That tiny man is quite frustrating.
  20. Remember though, it will only happen because it is 6-1. And it didn't happen anyway. Yes, I understand there are weirdos here who think "fake rallies" are some of the worst possible things that can happen to them when watching a Cubs game. They are weird.
