  1. I think it actually has a lot to do with how much of a team and scheme sport it is. There are reasonable arguments that coaches are the most historically significant figures in football. Yeah and the greats seem to have been surrounded by greats. Montana had Rice and vice versa. Payton had an amazing defense, as did Bradshaw. Emmitt had a ton of HOF talent everywhere. Guys like Sanders and Marino have no rings. Its just too hard for an individual NFL player to get enough credit to be considered that far ahead of his peers. Jim Brown and Unitas have an argument because they played when they were actually able to stand out above the talent around them. But I picked Lombardi because there is such an argument for best player. Put the coach with the biggest influence on the game and with the trophy named after him. Yeah, I think I'm going with Lombardi, too. Good call, and good points, too.
  2. Worrrrrrrd.
  3. I think it actually has a lot to do with how much of a team and scheme sport it is. There are reasonable arguments that coaches are the most historically significant figures in football. Totally agree. I think guys like Lombardi or Halas or Landry trounce any of the players in terms of being real icons of the sport. They're more singularly recognized and they tend to have more longevity.
  4. It's weird how football doesn't really have a GOAT icon like so many of the other sports do. I guess Unitas maybe comes close; I'd argue Montana doesn't because despite all of the talent and the winning he was and is just such a zilch as a public figure. That's why I keep coming back to someone like Brown because he's been such a presence as a player and actor and social activist and mentor and who knows what else. He's a larger than life figure. Montana is so [expletive] boring.
  5. Yes!! I knew I wasn't the only one. See the Cubs score 11 runs and it's [expletive] Murphy and Schierholtz (which is ok) doing everything while Rizzo and Castro go 0-9 To be fair to Rizzo (I mean, he's still sucking, but let's be nice), I'm pretty sure he didn't start that game. Castillo also didnt start, just to make it extra annoying.
  6. Yeah, Jim Thorpe is known as a super athlete who also happened to play football. JIM BROWN JIM BROWN JIM BROWN
  7. Would that be somehow different than "Starlin Fan?" Maybe it would have the reverse effect? Whatever you were before; you changed the name and he went back into the toilet. We're desperate here.
  8. I hope that felt like somebody was stabbing you in the heart, Rondon Fan. Please take Castro out of your sig.
  9. Which, for some reason, you find so much worse than losing 4-1.
  10. Wow, stellar job by Rusin to get out of having guys on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.
  11. What happened? Desmond hit into what looked it would be a perfect DP but Castro bobbled the ball when pulling back to throw to 1B and they only got one. Admittedly he had to come a long way to 2B because of how he was shifted, but still, frustrating, and Desmond ultimately scored.
  12. So what? I think he's the best pick.
  13. Sometimes; I think it just doesn't bother me as much because I'm watching most things in SD. Football games are pretty much the only ones where I find myself thinking, "yeah, HD would make this a LOT better." I'm pretty sure Fox doesn't give a [expletive] about their SD feed because it's easily the worst.
  14. That is outstanding.
  15. Nah, I appreciate the pointers; I think there is an old antenna still hooked up on my building, so since my TV is only a couple years old I'll see if I can get it hooked up when I get home. Thanks.
  16. Just a cheap Vizio flatscreen. No idea of the model or type.
  17. Unless it came with my TV or cable setup, then no.
  18. Comprehensive access to sports is pretty much the last holdout.
  19. That's the preferred endgame for me, too. As soon as I can ditch cable/satellite altogether I am gone.
  20. Bad experiences with satellite both here and in VA; would prefer not to go back.
