as far as what other options are there, I'll take him. I refuse to watch any of Russell, Almora or Descalso in the box. At least CarGo may run into one. Debatable is he's a better option than Russell or, shockingly, Almora in that regard.
That last spot in the lineup is pretty much a no win situation at this point. Almora? Cargo? Russell? Descalso? Just be happy there's only one of them and they are at the bottom of the lineup. Oh just wait until Joe get's his monthly case of wine from Binny's. They will all be in the lineup at the same time. Under the Ricketts, Joe can only afford toilet hooch.
It's not like baseball is shooting itself in the foot with a shrinking talent pool when everyone wants to treat anyone drafted past the first few rounds like an intern. Also: "they're getting paid to play a GAME. They should be grateful they get anything at all!!!"
It seems inevitable the players are going to screw up the next deal: https://deadspin.com/adam-eaton-actually-the-financial-struggles-of-minor-1835787706 As perfectly summed up in the comments:
Duke should return to writing front page article with a horsefeathering master's thesis about the myriad of ways that hitting Descalso for Darvish was cartoonishly stupid. Maddon gets himself outmanaged WAY too horsefeathering easily these days, even by his usual standards.
