  1. I'm going to miss Barrett, but Rob Bowen may just be the next one in terms of catching on late and turning into a solid offensive catcher. He's OPSing nearly .900 away from Petco. I like this deal.
  2. Because Bowen can't throw out runners on a staff with Greg Maddux doesn't make him a bad defensive catcher.
  3. FWIW, Bowen sucked last year on the road and was good at home (.840 OPS), and this year it's the reverse. Nevertheless, gotta think going from Petco to Wrigley will help him.
  4. I've seen the arguments for him spelled out...can you do the same from the other side? 703 career OPS. This year it's .810. And it's .893 on the road away from Petco. This is looking more and more like a good deal.
  5. IBL
  6. Oh, well, that's settled then. I'm convinced. Never mind guys, Bowen is a piece of **** and has no place here. Forget everything I said.
  7. Agreed. Barrett had a pretty high SLG this year, but he was still getting on base at Neifi-like levels. He really wasn't doing well this season, he's on the wrong side of 30, and he's a FA at the end of the year. If Bowen turns out to be as good as he looks and Barrett continues to decline, we may look back on this as a very good deal.
  8. BTW, I'll miss you Michael. From 2004-06 you were the best Cubs catcher I've ever followed. And you socked Pierzynski. You're my type of guy and it was a bummer that you had to go.
  9. If it IS Barrett for Bowen/Burke...meh. If Bowen really is good on defense, then he's definitely our new best catcher and I'll be happy if we can get someone who gets on base and plays good D behind the plate, especially considering Barrett wasn't coming back and was having a bad year. Burke is a terrible, no-good, awful prospect and I was hoping that high-level pitching prospect talk was true. I don't think this is that bad a deal. The offense needed to be upgraded at the deadline before this deal was made and it still does.
  10. That's a beautiful view from those seats.
  11. Don't be - I knew whoever won between you and Cubbies75 would beat me after I barely escaped B. The only thing surprising to me is that you're the one beating me, I had always thought Cubbies75 was enormously popular on this site. It's hardly an insult to lose to a guy who can take a BP homer off the chin anyway :D
  12. Can I get a recount? Barry Bonds does not have a soul, therefore does not count as a person. mhuber's comment is correct
  13. Ryan put the Rangers in the http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/ndistops/Dumpster.jpg HELL of a night for our pen. Great win.
  14. Who are you and what have you done with the Cubs' bullpen???
  15. Fonz and Felix both went after Sosa's flyout, both calling for it. Pie caught it, there was a slight collision.
  16. They both did. Fonz should have let up, Pie's the captain out there.
  17. In case anyone was wondering, Ron Mahay, who just owned us, gave up 20 earned runs in 35.1 innings in his Cubs career. And his K:BB ratio was just a shade over 1.5:1.
  18. I think I'd rather Fonzie "instigate brawls" than strike out all the time.
  19. Meh, I don't think DeRosa should've been that far off the bag.
  20. I want Marmol closing as soon as Dempster either has his contract run out or loses effectiveness. As it is he should be the 2nd setup man with Howry.
  21. Damn, Carlos Marmol is just freakin good.
  22. Ugh, a cheapie. And Marshall's gone. 4-plus. First non-QS of the year.
