  1. Amazingly enough, Steve Phillips is making sense with that "bat a nonpitcher 9th if you're going to hit Soriano leadoff" idea.
  2. They do have a crappy lineup, and they do have a crappy pitching staff. But just like in 2006, it's not stopping them from outperforming those pesky little facts. How come we never have any years like that? 1998's about as close as we've come to something like that. I think the 98 team was a good bit better than this Cardinal team, though. In 2001, the Cubs basically rode Sammy, Lieber, Wood and a decent bullpen to playoff contention into September. That was another one. But you'll notice on neither occasion did we make it to the World Series. Or come close.

  4. Akili Smith? He was drafted by the Bengals (I think in the McNabb draft) and quickly busted out. He was terrible in the NFL and, to the best of my knowledge, is now out of the game completely. Wasn't he picked 2nd or 4th? Or somewhere in between. :)
  5. Put the Brewers in the http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/ndistops/Dumpster.jpg
  6. Wuertz pulls an Ohman. What a piece of crap he's been.
  7. If Theriot were playing 2B and hitting 7th or 8th as he should be, there'd be much less venom at him. Unfortunately, he's not. And the day Theriot actually decides where he bats before a game is the day I understand that kind of anger. I don't agree with it either. Another thing I don't agree with is Marshall being wasted away in this LOOGY role.

  9. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if we beat them tonight. We beat them last game we played for what that's worth.
  10. So much for "Lee's seeing the ball great tonight". Craptastic job there.
  11. That was a pretty good pitch, I won't fault him too much. Wish he'd come through there though, he won't steal Reed's PT back until he starts coming up big in those spots.
  12. New career high for walks by Sheets. Against the Cubs? Weird. Make it happen Geo.
  13. I can't ever remember seeing Felix go oppo before. Nice sac fly.
  14. Cut out the "Brewers suck" chants when we're losing 4-2.
  15. To be fair, the issue won't hit newsstands until Thursday. It will probably happen this weekend.
  16. Not a coaching change, but Ben Hansbrough announced last night he will transfer from Mississippi State to Notre Dame. He'll be eligible for the 2009-10 season. Rumor is that Purdue's Scott Martin also wants to go to ND.
  17. If Chris Young is the pitcher, then no. If Chris Young is the outfielder, then HELL no.
  18. I am rooting hardcore for the Hawks. That would be awesome to see.
  19. DL'd guys don't count against your roster. I'm trying to get another catcher to replace Posada. So what you're saying is that I need to wait for Posada to hit the DL and then I'll have a freed up spot to add someone else? Yep. Yahoo registers guys who are put on the DL the next day, so he should be there by now.
  20. DL'd guys don't count against your roster.
  21. The Panthers took no QBs. I suspect Jerry Angelo and Marty Hurney are the Joe Morgans of football GMs. "Who says you need a QB to succeed in this league?"
