  1. I know now how Michigan felt last week. We gift-wrapped that game to MSU with a horrible INT thrown by Jimmy in our territory (led to only Sparty TD until the last minute), a stupid Floyd flat-out-dropped-fumble in the MSU red zone that led to a FG for Sparty, and two missed field goals. ND may end up ok this year, but they are far from where they need to be - understandably so since everyone important is a sophomore or freshman. Ball State-IU is not for old-school Woody Hayes types. 28-20 at halftime, Cards lead. I'm praying for Dante Love, the nation's all-purpose yardage leader, who was carted off the field with what my friend (who has some experience with athletic training) believes may be spinal vertebrae damage. Nate Davis with a ridiculous 45-yard TD throw off his back foot and on the run in the game.
  2. The Cubs don't play home night games? He may mean home weekend night games.
  3. A guy I went to high school with, Frank Duong, just pick-sixed Dan LeFevour to give Purdue the lead. That's pretty awesome.
  4. Soto by far.
  5. I'm watching college football all day - ND at 3:30 and BSU at 7. I'll celebrate the clinch later.
  6. Another banner day for the Big Ten right now. OSU leads Troy 14-10 at halftime, Purdue is tied with Central Michigan and Pitt leads Iowa 14-10. (PSU obviously doing their job.) Let's hope it gets worse later today for the conference. :)
  7. Good point, the HFA number is 3 cause with a 3-6 finish we wind up 95-66 while the Mets could win out and they'd be 95-67. Wouldn't they play the game if it came down to that? Or does it matter when it only decides seeding?
  8. I would just like to point out that I've been adding "except Geovany Soto" every time I point out that basically every Cub has a huge game-tying or game-winning hit this year. Now I don't have to. :D
  9. Sean McDonough is one of the best regardless of what he's doing. I don't know what else he does - I imagine there's more - but he's on ESPN's college hoops broadcasts.
  10. I already have Burress and Boldin at WR. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question, but do I give the last spot to Donald Driver or the returned Steve Smith?
  11. Just think, if he didn't want to play with the Cubs, he probably would've gotten a lot more. IIRC there were published reports that San Diego offered him more than we did.
  12. I'd say no one deserves a spot unless their role can be defined and justified. Marquis can't start in the post-season -- with the days off, there is no reason for it. But he can be a help in an extra inning game, or if a starter struggles and has to be pulled before the end to the fourth. I think he's on because he has a role. Aside from the platoon players, who is the RH PH against a lefty? I still don't think they have a good option against Jon Lester at Fenway in the WS. Is Ronnie Cedeno or Hanry Blanco your DH for that game? Look at Ronny's splits. Just because Lou is always putting Cedeno in against righties doesn't make it smart, or even neutral. Ronny sucks against lefties. Blanco would be the DH in that spot.
  13. Not a fan? I think he's a great studio host.
  14. I don't care what Lou does if they win it all. I don't care what anyone does. I probably won't for at least a few years. It'll take me at least 2, 2.5 years to sober up. I seriously cannot imagine truly being too frustrated with anything Cubs for about 2-3 years after they win. The same holds true for any of my teams really, but the Cubs especially for obvious reasons.
  15. ...don't exist. Yeah, Len doesn't even do it very much, and you can tell that privately he is probably a SABR guy.
  16. I hope we get Orsillo. He knows his stuff. If not, (and I can't believe I'm saying this) the Brewers' guy would be fine. He's actually pretty good. Though I imagine they'll put him in the AL to avoid any perception of bias. Please, please no Dick Stockton though.
  17. ESPNEWS playing in South Bend...awesome
  18. I love seeing stats like this. Reminds me just how rare and wonderful this season has been. What a ride.
  19. Question for journalism majors. Why is that part in brackets? Whenever I see this in a quote, I assume that those are words the player didn't actually say, but implied. But if he doesn't say that part in the bracket, the sentence makes no sense. They sometimes do that when the quote is not fit to print. Maybe he said "that pisses me off a little bit". Doubt they would print that but need the reader to understand what he is saying so they fill in something more acceptable and put it in brackets so you know it is an edit. Yeah, he definitely said "pisses me off". I've seen that brackety stuff used before to cover obscenities, most often in Sports Illustrated.
  20. The great thing about the NL this year is that we will pretty much do both at once. In fact, we potentially could do both at once if, say, we lose one of the next two games and Philly does the same.
  21. I really think Marquis will get on. He's been borderline good of late and I have a feeling the long relief role would work ok for him.
  22. Bravo! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> More or less what I was going to say. Great post.
  23. I got to see the clincher (in a manner of speaking - MIL was losing when I left GABP) last year...the same won't hold true this time around unless someone gives me free tickets. :(
  24. And we will still not have played KC since 2002. STL will have played them like 42 times since the last Cubs game against them by the end of 2009.
  25. Hahahahaha. Color me confident.
