  1. Just about everything Jimmy did, especially the "HEY HEY" homer vs Atlanta and the STL game. The fact that almost every Cubs player has a big late-inning hit this year, go-ahead, tying, closing-the-gap, or extending-the-lead variety. In that vein - Pie's homer vs the Mets, Cedeno's slam vs the Mets, Aramis's huge homers vs Colorado, SF, Philly and the Sox, Ward's homer in Florida, Reed's homers against Arizona and...(there's another one, I think Philly). Soto/Fielder. Lilly/Molina. Backe jumping around like a nutcase after getting screwed on a strike three call with the bases loaded. Dempster's awkward hug with Marisa Miller. The 8th inning magic vs Florida. The Reed Johnson walk-off single after the Marmol implosion vs San Fran. The time Marmol came in a game vs Houston (I think the same game as Jimmy's catch) with bases loaded and no one out and I told my friend I was watching with that Houston wasn't scoring a run, and they didn't. There are a lot more. I've crammed a lot of memories out of this team because I know it will probably never get any better than this summer. ETA: Soto's inside the park home run vs Houston, and also how could I forget Jeff Samarzdija improbably playing for the Cubs after two years as one of my favorite college football players.
  2. Maybe they meant the 37 yard line? Defensive and special teams scores, my friend. Both teams are capable of those at least. Seriously, I don't know how you get 37. I guess if it's too low everyone takes the over, but both teams have pretty good defenses and pretty awful offenses. I think both teams will look better offensively than they have thus far this season, but whether that translates to 37 points is another thing.
  3. Steve Smith finished last season with over 1,000 yards receiving with 2 and a half games of Jake Delhomme, and the rest of the season with David Carr, Vinny Testaverde and Matt Moore. In my biased mind, that's still pretty damn impressive. Not that it matters since he obviously won't be in there, but he's still an elite receiver.
  4. I'm sure you were sincere, but this wins the award for backhanded compliment of the thread. We'll take them any way we can get them at this point.
  5. RAMIREZ! NICE TAG! Good play Lee too!!!
  6. I have a bad feeling about this. Very bad.
  7. Come on, did he jump up and down, do a throat slash, flap his arms like a rooster, and mess his pants? close. he jumped, gave a primal yell, squatted, clenched his fists.....let's not be complete homers about this. I'm on record saying I don't care that either act like they do, but let's not pretend that the Cubs don't do it The difference is that Marmol does it after he just got himself out of a potentially game-saving jam, and Valverde does it after getting 3 straight outs with his team up 2 or 3 runs. and he's not a Cub. don't forget that part Rationalization it is, but the next time a Cub pitcher goes nuts after a meaningless strikeout, I'll be sure to call him out just for you.

  9. My friends went to a September 2004 game vs Cincinnati (yeah, I know, great series) and claim to have seen Ronnie Woo Woo turn down a crack dealer. So he's got that going for him anyway.
  10. What's not so easy to avoid are the yells of "Woo!" from the thousand or so people around him whenever he starts it up. (And yes, I admit I've actually been one of those people.)
  11. The page 1 schedule has been updated to reflect Texas/Arkansas's postponement and Air Force/Houston being bumped up two hours.
  12. http://www.carolinagrowl.com/Read.aspx?Story=725 Good lord, Muhammad said something similar the other day. I have a feeling we'll get nothing out of either as they get caught up in playing the Bears. And in answer to Cuse asking if we can stop the run, we're decent, not great. Good linebackers. Forte will probably get his yards, though, somewhere between 3-4 a carry I'm guessing.
  13. That's random. Their famous songs are tolerable but I have yet to hear anything else I like by them. They did a cover of Beat It that's alright too.
  14. I think that the Molina play woke the beast inside Ted Lilly.
  15. What happened? Looper threw a fastball high for the first pitch. He probably wasn't aiming to hit him (more or less over the middle of the plate, just at Lilly's head level) but it looked like it at least was a message pitch. Lilly just glared.
  16. I want at least one Cardinals' player's limb severed tomorrow. Not really. But I want them to lose by so many that they'll wish they had.
  17. I certainly won't be pleased, but at least it will mean that they didn't complete one of the most horrifying collapses in the history of professional sports. I don't see that happening, if only because I don't think the Mets/Phillies are good enough to catch us regardless of how horrible we play.
  18. I don't even know what to do or say. Totally at a loss for words. I want to be angrier, but at the same time, I don't want to be as doom and gloom as I am being in my own head. If this team plays like this a month from now I'm going to put a foot through a wall. According to PTI: tonight was the anniversary of the black cat game. Now I feel better.
  19. I hadn't noticed before but "sounds like heaven..." is on screen when Mrs. Camden randomly says she's smoked pot in the 7th Heaven ad. Coincidence?
