  1. well i'm sure you'll love the Mike Mitchell pick Absolutely loved it. I didn't hear the whole thing, but I'm pretty sure on SportsCenter that I heard either Kiper or McShay had Mitchell as the 126th or something around there best player in the draft. That's not to say those guys' lists are the end all but still, if a guy is ranked No. 126, chances are you can grab him in the third round with the 71st pick. The ESPN guys flat-out asked Kiper what the earliest he thought Oakland would've had to worry about anyone else taking Mitchell was, and he said "Fifth round. At least." And Berman said they had no highlights on him. He wasn't in the draft guide, being listed between 40th and 73rd best safety in the draft. There was other stuff in there I'm sure but by this time my insane laughter was drowning out the rest of it. Oakland's always a good source of draft entertainment.
  2. You do realize his last 2 seasons he had a really bad elbow injury that allowed him to play but not at 100%? His numbers may have been even better the last 2 years had he been 100%, especially the power numbers. And he missed like 4 weeks in 2007 with an oblique injury and 2 weeks last year with an injury I forgot. I know about the elbow injury but if you can still play and be unstoppable through an injury, then that's clearly not serious enough an injury.
  3. I'm glad we got Everette Brown but I really wish we'd quit trading away first rounders a year ahead of time. I wish we'd just given away our 59th pick instead of blowing next year's 1st rounder.
  4. Brian Barden's OPS - 1.228 Derrek Lee and Milton Bradley's OPS combined - 1.019 Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Marmol - injured Albert Pujols - never seriously injured or slumping in his entire baseball career
  5. I'm sick to death of this team, but because I'm a fan, I'm watching. At least flipping back and forth from the Bulls game. Sigh.
  6. I excluded last April because Derrek Lee wasn't worthless last April, and it would've been very stupid of me to say he was. Pretty simple.
  7. I'm so sick and damn tired of games like this happening to us, and I'm sick and damn tired of things like "the errant pickoff throw hits the ump to keep the runner from moving" happening to the Cardinals. I'm rapidly losing patience with this team and even more so with this manager.
  8. YES! We could have had any of about 4 different promising QBs through the draft the last couple of years but now we have an aging Delhomme for 5 more!!! My team is so smart about everything except the quarterback position. I swear to God they want to prove they can win without ever developing a highly touted quarterback. As it is we have virtually no chance of getting to the Super Bowl until Jake is replaced. I love the guy but he shouldn't still be here.
  9. That screams 'mouthpiece of the Cubs'. Maybe he did have tardiness issues, but if he was getting people out, he was getting people out, and I don't care if he used smoke and mirrors, magic wands, bunny rabbits or [expletive] hamster armies to do it.
  10. If this turned out to be true, oh, darn. It would be just too bad if St. Louis lost a guy who never should've been contributing anything of substance to begin with.
  11. Unfortunately for him, he's playing a position where barely eclipsing 100 OPS+ isn't nearly good enough.
  12. That's disingenuous. Since the end of last May, Derrek Lee has been utterly worthless offensively. There is no explanation why he started off so well last year and ended up what he has been for the last 11 months or so, but it is what happened.
  13. Put the Cardinals in the http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/ndistops/Dumpster.jpg
  14. And since we can't bench the completely worthless Derrek Lee for no good reason, Hoff now has no position in that or any other lineup. This team's pissing me off already.
  15. And on the Boyd/Hoye thing, we misidentified him as Boyd in that game thread a few times before ultimately deciding after the game that he didn't deserve to be called by his real name. Hence, Boyd.
  16. If St. Louis wins the division when they've spent each off-season the last few years trying to plug as many reclamation projects into their lineup as possible, I'm probably going to jump off a bridge.
  17. When Lou is finished making proclamations like "Bradley won't play if he's not 100 percent" and "Hoff won't play RF anymore", we're not going to have nine to take the field with. God, I hate everything about baseball right now. Gotta love Brian [expletive] Barden almost OPSing more than our 3-4-5 hitters put together.
  18. Boyd's issues stem from the 2007 home opener when he called a horrid game behind the plate, capped off when Bob Howry gave up a game-winning homer after a blatant strike 3 that wasn't called.
  19. I like the QPC from McDonald's, like the Whoppers a lot more, like Steak and Shake. White Castle's are not good. I haven't had most of the others.
  20. Maybe he is misused, but if he was going to be all that good to begin with, he might not suck so horribly in those situations.
  21. I have a rule. Anyone who once tried to get the umps to see if Greg Freaking Maddux was doctoring the baseball has no right to ever complain about anything in baseball, ever.
  22. As for the topic at hand, I never boo current Cubs. I felt dirty when I was at a vintage bad-Sammy game in 2004 and he was getting absolutely eviscerated by the fans. I'm not sure if I was ever going to be a boo-er before then, but that game turned me off booing forever. I'm okay with (and encourage) booing people like Dusty, and I have a totally irrational hate for LaTroy that no stats will ever change. But beyond guys who were either memorably bad for us or had memorably bad moments, I don't understand why one would boo any player - unless it's something like a guy is throwing at us or just mocked somebody.
  23. It's a song that has been around for years. Wikipedia is your friend. I could tell the song was 20 years old, I was just wondering if it was always played and/or if it is just big now because of the winning. I never heard it on WGN growing up and was just curious. It was written during the 1984 season and to the best of my knowledge really never popped up again until 2007. In fact, I swear to the moons above we didn't start playing it after home wins until partway through 2007 when it became clear we were a decent team, because I watched that team all year and don't remember it being played in early games.
