  1. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/commishs-hot-stove/commishs-hot-stove/cardinal-beat-updates/2009/05/cardinals-dl-rick-ankiel-want-full-strength-bench/ Meet the newest out-of-nowhere Cards phenom, Shane Robinson. OPS at AA in 2008 - .891 OPS at AAA this year - .883 On the Ryan Ludwick scale that should equal to at least a .950 MLB OPS.
  2. How about let's give incentive for Hasheem Thabeet and his ilk not to fake injuries so better shooters can shoot the free throws, then come back into the game 30 seconds later?
  3. Even though Pujols is a complete ass on the field, it's easy to like him off it, and he's being pretty brazen about his cleanliness, but still. We as fans really have no idea who the guy really is and whether he would use or is using.
  4. Let's pound Russ Ortiz. And good Ted Lilly should show up.
  5. It's too bad Hoff can't play 3rd so he could spell Rammy every now and then, and also give us one less reason to have Aaron Miles on this team. One less than zero?
  6. There are some stupid ones, but I'm glad to say I rarely see anyone actually wearing them.
  7. Samardzija should never have been up to begin with.
  8. What happens when he breaks into Krzyzewski's office? Part of his agreement is that it becomes his handler's office. I think Wall is going to be the extremely talented headache everyone said Beasley and Mayo would be. Well, hopefully one day the NCAA decides Mayo should be a headache to USC. Let's not be crazy. It'll be at least 15 more years before they even get around to Reggie Bush. I figure at least 25 for the Mayo thing.
  9. You're not used to this? I fully expected Ankiel to be okay. I'm glad he is, of course, but if that had been a Cub his career would have been over, and the ump definitely would have ruled it no catch.
  10. I really wish we could go back two years and give Deng's money to Gordon.
  11. Miles reassures us that he sucks against everybody.
  12. Well, Marshall just justified that move. We'd lose to Lincecum with a 3-0 cushion regardless of lineup.
  13. I always fully expect the Cardinals to compete all season. After last year I won't ever expect them not to.
  14. That sucks. Hope he sits out for a while. For both his and the Cubs' sakes.
  15. Obligatory "Hope he does well but I'll kill something if DWard homers against us this summer" post
  16. I was going to go get IU's schedule since they normally play a bunch of crap OOC too, and I found Eastern Kentucky, Western Michigan, @Akron and...@Virginia? Random.
  17. It's not like Fukudome has been our best player so far this season or anything.
  18. And expectations are at 10 wins, or else Weis probably gets the ax. Of course, even if he wins 10 games it could get interesting next year when the schedule will be more difficult. S04 PURDUE S11 MICHIGAN S18 @ Michigan St. S25 STANFORD O02 @ Boston College O09 PITTSBURGH O16 Army (Chicago) O23 @ Navy (Baltimore) N13 UTAH N27 @ Southern Cal With 2 games TBD, and since we're already playing four road games, under the insane 7-4-1 philosophy that will probably be two cupcakes. Unfortunately, 2009 is pretty much going to be our scheduling template for a while.
  19. Notre Dame's schedule is so mediocre this year that Nevada might actually be one of the best teams they play. The Pack won eight games last year and return most of the starters that made their offense one of the best in the nation last season. With Purdue having a new coach, MSU having to replace Ringer and Hoyer, and our schedule suddenly outfitted with both Washington schools and UConn in addition to Pitt, Stanford and Navy, 10 wins should almost be expected even though the team really isn't 10-win good.
  20. I have little to add except that webjim brought up Aaron Miles as if he was bad for the Cardinals last year. Of course, as we all know, he was not. He had a higher OPS than Theriot (and one about 60-80 points above his norm, for that matter). OPS+ of 99, which is pretty darn good for a super-sub. Of course, he's wearing a Cub uniform, so now he's working on a solid OPS+ of 12.
  21. It's on TNT too. The NBA and NHL, unlike MLB, let regional networks carry playoff games alongside national ones.
