  1. Why couldn't the Twins have taken Mark Prior? Because that would have been far less soul-crushing. Don't you know that? Although if the Twins had taken Prior and the Cubs Mauer, Prior would have 3 Cy Youngs by now, and Mauer would be languishing in the minors somewhere. Probably. I imagine we would have taken tex then anyways. Wojo wrote in his book Cubs Nation that we would have happily taken Mauer if the Twins had taken Prior, but Prior was #1 on the board.
  2. The fact that anyone who knows anything about baseball or ever follows it at all would ever say that anyone besides Albert Pujols is the best hitter in baseball is a sign of how contrarian fans are sometimes just to be contrarian. On another note, the Cubs are probably going to lose.
  3. Michael Bourn fell on his ass on Tal's Hill and caught a Hoff longball that would've been out anywhere else.
  4. Most of our offense is pretty much sucking all the time. It doesn't really surprise me that they're sucking in key spots. As truffle pointed out with stats earlier, there is a sizable gap between our hitting stats with no one on base and runners on base. It's not like we are world beaters when there's no one on (somewhere like 15th in MLB) but it's better than 28th with RISP. Point being, they're not very good, so why would they be very good when the situation demands it?

  6. Soriano can't freaking run anymore. Do we have anyone on this damn team that's both not injured and not sucking?
  7. How many more wins would we have if we could just be 19th in baseball with RISP instead of 28th? My lord.
  8. Here comes Derrek Lee to either K or hit the ball hard into a fantastic defensive play.
  9. What's even more annoying than a DP? 3 straight strikeouts!
  10. Why, why, WHY are we so inept with RISP?
  11. Ok, Theriot, what the [expletive]. That was awful.
  12. It was a lucky hit but I wouldn't say it was a 'huge break'. Just a seeing-eye single.
  13. I'm sick of Russ Ortiz, but Len and Bob are sure having fun with him. :-))
  14. I love when Tejada forgets that he's not supposed to be that good at SS anymore. Damn it.
  15. Miles doesn't play SS. I'm fairly sure he hasn't played there yet this season, and he probably won't.
  16. This is highly unfortunate, as it would instantly have been the funniest show on TV.
  17. The odds of the ump changing that zone on a key pitch later in the game are 1:40. I don't get to be right often, so I like to parade it around like a chump when I am.
  18. There seems to be one of these posts in almost every thread. How DO we walk Michael Bourn?
  19. Well, this is the Cubs we're talking about. We all know any injury concerns become magnified by about 50x when you join the Cubs. Do you seriously buy into this "only the Cubs" garbage that you spout basically every game? Do you seriously buy into this "I have to police any posts or posters that I disagree with" garbage you do in every thread? It's not policing. You post these things on a public forum where people read them and can respond...if you don't want people to respond, don't post them. Game after game you bring up things like bad signings and bad trades and injuries and bad calls and almost without fail talk like you're convinced that these things plague the Cubs more than any other team or that they're unusual occurances that few teams have to deal with. I would love to hear about these bad trades and bad signings I've talked about in any way besides anger at Jim Hendry for making them. If you really think I'm stupid enough to believe Hendry is the only GM who makes dumb moves once in a while, I don't know what to tell you. As for the bad calls, there have been a fair amount of them in recent games, and to point it out is not to bemoan some all-consuming bad luck for this team, it's to point out that umps have sucked in our recent games and mostly not in our favor.

  21. ??? I'm guessing he's reacting to what he was just told about Bradley.
