  1. How many names and seasons from the last seven years or so could you plug into that sentence to describe Cardinal players, though?
  2. I have no idea why the approval of Cubs fans is so important here. I fully expect that if the roles were reversed, there would be some Sammy hate going on.
  3. I'm with you, but just because I enjoy UNC getting crushed under any circumstance.
  4. Cincinnati loses to St. John's at the last second. Notre Dame really needs to get them on Saturday. The LMU loss has basically removed their margin for error, and they need to get every game they are 'supposed' to win, plus a couple that they're not.
  5. Jose Valverde evidently doesn't think he antagonizes the Cubs enough.
  6. I have no idea why Stoops seems so willing to leave Oklahoma, but that would make 2 jobs he's been linked to this offseason that really aren't any better (no offense).
  7. How is admitting that he used steroids for over a decade, including 1998 when he broke the single season HR record, not coming completely clean? Because he denied it for so long and now he's finally admitting it as a desperate ploy to garner sympathy to get into the Hall of Fame. I think part of it too is that he still is saying 'roids didn't actually help him hit home runs. Because his homer per at-bat rate suddenly doubled 7 years into his career by logical progression. Also, by coming back sooner from injury (which is exactly what you said you used roids for), you'd hit more home runs by being in the game at all, you dolt.
  8. Fixed. And it's going to be awesome. Part of me fears that SC wouldn't have gotten a guy like Kiffin if he had received any indication that the NCAA was coming down hard on them. I mean, he was THERE during the heyday of these violations, for God's sake. what does "a guy like kiffin" mean? a guy who was a miserable, overmatched pro coach hated by his entire organization and then won like 7 games in 1 season at tennessee? A well-known coach with a high profile - at least high enough that he can get some of the best assistants in the country to follow him around. Yeah, he's got much still to prove, but having assistants like Monte Kiffin, Ed Orgeron and Norm Chow is a good start.

  10. Reports have Kyle Prater going to SC now that Kiffin's been hired.
  11. I like the summer Games better, but I'll check out the winter Games too like I always do. That new snowboard cross event has no business being in the Olympics, but damn it's fun.
  12. ...but....but....he's the coach in waiting behind a coach who's signed for like six more years and has no plans to retire!
  13. Geez. Norm Chow, Monte Kiffin AND Orgeron? That's a pretty solid array of assistants.
  14. man that is a huge kick in the balls for tennessee. they look like they were really building toward something and now they lose their coach and who knows, maybe some assistants too? ouch. Yeah, and talk about bridge-burning. Knoxville faithful have to be furious with him.
  15. Monte's going with him as well. Fine by me. Kiffin's pretty good but I find it hard to believe he can be as good as Carroll was there.
  16. After "Bob Stoops is going to be ND's coach tomorrow", I take anything Schefter ever says about college coaching with a metric ton of salt. Especially when no one else is reporting this.
  17. For all the talk around here about the MLB playoffs being a crap shoot why isn't the NCAA tourney viewed the same way? Teams get hot at the right time and make a nice run. Unfortunatel,y Purdue has not had success in that manner. However, they have been able to endure and triumph through a very tough conference season 21 times. That cannot be dismissed just because of the lack of their tournament success. It's been my experience that people (not just here, but any fan I talk to) really only use tournament success or failure when it suits their argument, whether it be pumping one team up, discounting another, trying to prove conference supremacy, or something similar. no, i'm not trying to suit an argument, i'm just pointing out that a program like mighty iowa has more final fours than the powerhouse boilermakers, who clearly, along with IU, make up the top-tier of the big ten. i mean, to the point where it would be grossly and terribly unfair to put them in the same division if the conference were expanded. Oh, I'm with you. Purdue's not even close to the top tier of the Big 11 historically. That was more of a general observation.
  18. Misquoted. Hardcorecubfan said that. I honestly don't think there is a single Cubs fan out there who doesn't think Sosa didn't juice. Since he tested positive in 03 it's really not a matter of opinion anymore.

  20. I took Cary Harris in round 2 when he didn't go until the 183rd pick and has done nothing, took Pat White in round 3 when he was really picked in round 2, and made a homer pick of Robert Brewster in round 4, who probably would've been a contributor for Dallas if not for a season-ending injury before the season even began. So I'll give myself a 2/3. Once again I will be without a 1st round pick because we just love Everette Brown.
  21. ND is Michael Floyd and then up for grabs. A couple of solid possibilities among the young group, but no one that's really grabbed me.
  22. Awesome move, and if Rosenthal's correct and we get him for an incentive-laden deal, it's an awesomer move. Sheets is definitely a gamble worth taking.
  23. Personally, I'd love Prater. I saw a YouTube highlight film of him and he looks like a solid player. But he wants to enroll early and he doesn't have a sufficient course load to do it at ND. I'm guessing he ends up at Illinois.
  24. No great loss. He's over-rated. Might actually get some playing time at one of those schools. Considering the scholarships USC's probably going to lose fairly soon, I imagine Prater would get plenty of playing time at USC.
