  1. It'd be cool if he didn't act like it was awesome that he injured our [expletive] all-star and basically guaranteed us L's until he comes back (God, make it right after the break).
  2. My official hope is for Clausen to go to Washington. New coach, relative history of success, a decent base with which to work, and lots of TV games thanks to the media's love of the NFC East. That being said he'll probably fall to Cleveland or Buffalo, thereby ensuring his professional failure just like the last one. I would be concerned about Carolina, but we of course don't pick until round 2 and are currently burning our bridges with our best defensive player, so yeah.
  3. Haha, what a prick.
  4. Rachel Bilson or Jordana Brewster's characters would've been much tougher choices to pass up.
  5. Did he have any reasoning behind that? Because that's clearly insane. He basically said they have no talent but are still in contention. Contention for what exactly? We're .500 at the moment. Chuck's a little nuts. That being said, I really hope we manage to get matched up with Boston again in the playoffs. We're not going to win the title anyway and it'd be nice to have a shot at a little revenge. Sorry, not contention, but rather in the playoff hunt. I know that's what he meant, but 'contention' seems a pretty loose term to apply. If we were in the other conference we wouldn't even be sniffing the playoffs. I'm not as down on Vinny as I was a month ago, obviously, but coach of the year is crazy talk.

  7. I really wish I could put my finger on what annoys me so much about Purdue basketball (besides Kramer, who everyone hates). It probably stems from last season when Purdue and Notre Dame were both preseason top 10 and I was looking forward to following both all year...and then the Irish were mediocre, and basically every time I saw Purdue was a walking reminder of what my team was also projected to be doing, and had fallen far short of doing. But damn, they just annoy me. It's ineffable.
  8. Yeah 96 teams isn't anywhere near letting all D1 teams in the tournament. There are like 300+ D1 teams last I checked. 96 teams is basically anyone from a major conference with a winning overall record, plus middle-tier teams from non-power conferences. It's asinine.
  9. Glad the Saints won. Unbelievable to see that pick-six happened. Not many things have shocked me more in my time as a sports fan, considering how dynamite Peyton had been playing the last nearly-two games before that.
  10. Notre Dame barely holds off USF 65-62 to stay near the bubble. BIG game out of Tory Jackson, who had 18 points and hit the and-1 that provided the winning margin. ND must beat @Seton Hall and St. John's to get to 8-5 in the league before a brutal 5-game stretch to end the year - of which they have to take 2 to even be considered to dance.
  11. Commentators getting self-righteous about rushing the court is absolutely stupid.
  12. This is a good time to mention that Illinois's almost-all-orange backdrop of T-shirts is one of the coolest things about college hoops. Always impresses me.
  13. What is the origin of that weird hand-clap chant that goes on for five minutes before anything actually happens? I remember first seeing that when BSU football played at Illinois and being unnerved by it (maybe that's the idea).
  14. Holy crap I think Derrick Rose just got a call.
  15. I was going to make the same point. The Bulls have done a lot of stupid crap the last decade but there's at least a decent chance that we're going to have a spectacularly good point guard as well as one of the big free agents this offseason when next season begins. That's a pretty good building block. Better to be lucky than good.
  16. BSU really didn't play all that well and Akron got a lot of luck, including at least 4 contested treys that went in and a couple of ridiculous flops called offensive fouls. I was really more heartened than discouraged. The game that matters is in Cleveland and I think they can take the Zips there. Wednesday night at Kent will be a tough test for this team. ND vs USF tomorrow, they have to win the next 3 to even pretend to be in the NCAA conversation (USF, @Hall, St. John's)
  17. Fine, fair enough. The point is, this stuff is much more widespread than 'minor' sanctions would suggest, if that's the route the NCAA chooses to go. Frankly, USC can break all the rules they want (and probably will, with Kiffin coaching), I just want to beat them. There'd be little satisfaction for me in only beating USC after they were crushed by the NCAA.
  18. there were probably other teams interested but the key is that brees signed a 6 year, $60M deal there. i'd like cubbiebum to show me where brees left better money on the table to go to new orleans because they were recovering from hurricane katrina. Exactly. And they were the only team - to our knowledge - that told him he'd start if he went there. What Brees has done in/for New Orleans (read the SI article about him from a couple weeks ago) is really awesome, and there's no doubt he's a good guy, but he didn't 'go there to save New Orleans'.
  19. This is just vague hand waving and meaningless rhetoric. What do "sending a message", "token effort", and "coming down really light" even mean? It is a convenient way of giving yourself wiggle room to criticize whatever penalties come down as being too lenient though. I don't give a [expletive] what happens to USC. None of it means anything to me. If anything, USC getting off easy would help ND since USC is the only traditional power that's any good on their schedule the next few years. And there'd be some satisfaction at beating USC while following the rules (assuming we ever beat you guys again). I just think the NCAA needs to do something if it's ever going to be taken seriously again, and not just 'probation' or losing one scholarship. Something like what happened to FSU is probably a good benchmark. For God's sake, ND got probation ten years ago because, similar to FSU, one rogue individual unconnected to anyone paid for a few gifts for players. This stuff is a much bigger deal, if only because there's plenty more than one 'rogue individual' involved.
  20. Yeah, that too. I can understand it for FOX games (not like it, but understand it), because that can actually hurt individual local stations that need the ad revenue if they don't get the eyeballs. But I fail to see who gets hurt by offering cable games through that service because much of the revenue comes from cable companies anyway. It would help a lot more people than it hurt if they killed those blackouts.
  21. The punishment that USC should (and needs to) get isn't about competitive advantage, it's about sending a message that athletic departments are responsible for not letting sleazeballs run around giving their supposed-to-be-amateur athletes cars and houses. And to some extent it has to also be about p.r. for the NCAA. A lot of fans and media, like it or not, are looking at this as the NCAA's last chance to pretend that it at least will give a token effort to promote amateurism. And if they come down really light on USC the NCAA will be absolutely vilified.
  22. First time in eight years.
  23. 37 and 14 for Luke Harangody and ND clobbers Cincinnati. No stupid jumpers, soft play, or any of the other crap that's hampered him this year. If this version had shown up all year, ND might be near the top of the league.
  24. The door is wide open for E.J. or UMFan to say something here.
  25. I don't understand how it's so complicated to find the areas in the Cubs' home territory that don't get CSN Chicago and take them out of the blackout zone.
