  1. It's the NCAA's goal to ruin the best thing in sports. Who the hell is Jennifer Hudson? Jennifer Hudson is an American Idol I think, which makes this about 25 percent more ridiculous and stupid.
  2. Do I take this to mean that you don't have the Hall in if they beat ND tomorrow? Because I don't know if I would, either.
  3. Bilas was outstandingly candid. I love when he gets like that. Just one reason he's the best in college hoops.
  4. Here's hoping Jeremy Hazell doesn't save a ridiculous Keyser Sozian performance for Notre Dame like they did last month.
  5. A day after trading for Seneca Wallace, the Browns cut Derek Anderson.
  6. Cause they are not playing the Red Sox in football. I just assumed the bowl committee was only going to pick teams in red or navy uniforms. ESPN decided to put the Capital One Bowl (ABC), Outback Bowl (ESPN), and Gator Bowl (ESPN2) all on at the same time on New Years Day, meaning there will be 3 Big Ten bowl games competing against one another for viewers. An odd decision. Not just 3 Big Ten bowls but 3 Big Ten vs SEC bowls. I think it kind of sucks that the Capital One Bowl is going to be on network TV but none of the BCS bowls will be.
  7. 8-12 in the Big East was going to get them in? I think they had to get to the final to have a legit shot.
  8. Good lord, UConn sucks.
  9. Notre Dame's dumbing down of the football schedule in recent years, the asinine 7-4-1 format, and everything else has some fans actually believing that ND is conspiring to make conference membership not seem so bad or seem inevitable (even though it's not - ND could be playing good schedules year in year out if they wanted to). It seems far-fetched but everything they've done recently - especially these 'statements' - is creepy.
  10. Wow, that's pretty phenomenal. Is that a one-time gig or will it continue in future years? probably a one time thing, but they're really good at rewarding customer loyalty. Hmm. If I ever manage to get a big-boy job and have a long-term home I'll have to look into that. In other news, Doug Gottlieb just sounded completely incoherent trying to bash the Big East, saying none of them have good out of conference wins (apparently G'Town's clubbing of Duke and win over Butler, WVU's win over Ohio State, Marquette's win over Xavier, etc. never happened).
  11. I have no idea what that team is doing right now.
  12. Wow, that's pretty phenomenal. Is that a one-time gig or will it continue in future years?
  13. Tory Jackson has led the Big East in assists 3 of his 4 years and never once appeared on an all-Big East team. He's a thoroughly unappreciated player, but ND is going to miss his consistently stellar ballhandling, creating and defensive ability next year. Abromaitis got robbed of Big East most improved player (not sure how you DON'T give it to a guy who goes from playing 80 minutes in his entire career to averaging 17 a game). Harangody on all-Big East first team and is the only Irish player to ever achieve that 3 times. The Big East tournament is underway. Already can't wait for tomorrow night's game with Seton Hall/Providence.
  14. Just looking at their raw numbers (record, RPI, SOS), Cal might, but they don't have any good wins. Lunardi has ASU stealling an at-large, FWIW.
  15. I guess their [expletive] teams are better than most league's [expletive] teams, but their middle of the road teams, at least a couple of whom are going to get into the tournament, are no better than the 9th or 10th best Big East teams or the 6th best Big Ten teams that aren't going to get in IMO.
  16. The ACC is not a good conference this year. The fact that it's probably going to get 6 or 7 bids despite this fact annoys me.
  17. Are there usually such wild fluctuations among the bracketologists this time of year? I'm seeing some brackets that have Illinois in, some with them not even close, some with South Florida in for God's sake. Lunardi bumped ND all the way up to a 9 seed, which I'd think indicates the Irish are pretty safe, but I'd love to beat Seton Hall, upset Pitt and play our way up to maybe a 7, increasing the chances of a 16 run with a favorable draw. As a 9 you're looking at Kentucky in round 2 which is basically endgame (although I guess of all the 1's I'd most like to play UK since they're young).
  18. Four teams were at home in the MAC Tournament 1st round today and three won. Ball State, of course, lost. Four games ago my fellow grad students were discussing our NIT at-large chances, but Ball State not only pissed that out the door, they lost to four consecutive inferior teams to end the season. I think my two college teams have won a combined like 4 conference tournament games in the years I've been following them.
  19. Seth Davis just claimed via Twitter that he still has Illinois in.
  20. Notre Dame can get its dancing shoes ready, beating Marquette on the road in OT to finish 10-8 in the Big East. The game went into OT on a buzzer-beating triple by Carleton Scott to end regulation. To think, a month ago I looked at our last five games (@L'ville, Pitt, @G'Town, UConn, @Marquette) and saw no wins. Instead these Irish go 4-1, would've gone 5-0 if the refs hadn't allowed Samardo Samuels to foul out every single one of our forwards. Harangody played sparingly, scored 5 points. ND is probably in no matter what happens in NYC now, though a win against the 10 seed in round 2 would lock it up for certain. Great win for L'Ville too against the Cuse to take away any pretense of being on the bubble. The Big East looks good for 8 teams in the tourney.
  21. Luke Harangody dressed and will play vs Marquette, coming off the bench. Presumably he'll get very limited minutes. He's got to work his knee back into playing shape.
  22. The Cubs did save money by trading him instead of releasing him. Silva's contract is for more money than Bradley's but the Mariners are paying for part of his contract so the Cubs are actually paying less money to Silva than they would have to Bradley. I stand corrected. I still hate the trade.
  23. Bradley for Silva is a bad trade regardless of the other factors in play. The Cubs literally would've been better off just eating Bradley's money rather than taking on a WORSE contract with a WORSE player.
  24. Wow, they still owed him $12.5 million guaranteed. That's awful for football In an uncapped year, they're saving money by doing it now as opposed to later (and they obviously were going to have to do it at some point). That's what the ESPN.com story said anyway, and they know this salary stuff better than I do. Vick isn't happening. At all. The Panthers haven't touched anyone with character issues since the Rae Carruth disaster and generally get rid of guys who bring them up. Plus, signing Vick would be inventive and interesting, and Carolina (partly because of the first point) is one of the most vanilla organizations in football. The wildest innovative thing they've done is have DeAngelo Williams take Wildcat snaps a couple of times in 2008.
  25. Had Carolina actually said anything about a QB battle or was that the media speculation? In any case, I'm glad they did this. Jake deserved a better ending, but them's the breaks. Any speculation of Carolina picking a QB in the draft is silly, they will probably pick up some unknown to back up Moore.
