  1. Nicely done
  2. I hate W/L for evaluating (my hatred of that stat originates all the way back to 2003 when I was feverishly angry every time Mark Prior didn't get a win he deserved and possibly cost him a Cy Young), but only one statistic here has somehow managed to change the way a baseball game is managed, so I voted saves.
  3. I kind of agree with him that football replay's not the best, but that's at least partially because it seems like at least one out of three times they [expletive] up the call on replay anyway (especially in college).
  4. Ward doesn't belong on this list. Yes he does. Ward was an absolute monster in 2007 (when I assume this happened). No he doesn't. All those other names are worse than Mather hitting 3rd excepting maybe Fontenot.
  5. I can't believe Kevin Correia was still available this morning in fantasy baseball. This could be the beginning of an excellent new strategy.
  6. I read the Bill James new abstract in summer 2003 and that probably planted a bunch of the seeds. It probably most hit in 2005, when conventional wisdom credited the White Sox being good to 'grinderball' and not the fact that they hit eleventy billion home runs. But it was a long process (I was relatively excited about the Pierre trade, I recall). It was probably summer 2006 when I totally moved over to the other side.
  7. FWIW, I looked this up since I was actually at that game, and it was the 2nd inning. What a glorious day it was, even though the Cubs were more or less out of it by then. Pretty sure Randy Wells pitched that game too. You're right. Wells had two hits in that one. I miss Charlie Morton.

  9. I remember when Todd Walker came into an AB in Houston a double shy of the cycle and hit a home run that just snuck over the wall. It was the least happy I'll ever be for a Cubs homer. All this is to say I freaking loved Walker.
  10. 2 out of 3 career homers against us. And on first look, it looked like that pitch seemed too far in for him to get it out, but...apparently not.
  11. That's actually not a bad plan. Since when does MLB do stuff that makes any sense?
  12. That's silly....either you retire his number or you give it out to anyone that requests it. I can understand maybe waiting 5 years before distributing that number, but usually teams only do that for players that they plan on retiring at some point in the future. Well, we didn't give it to Grabow when he asked, so maybe that is their plan. Who knows?
  13. I love Wood, but I don't really want his number retired. Maybe don't give it out to any old hack like we do with 21 nowadays but I wouldn't retire it.
  14. The game 7 homer should've been the ultimate hero moment. When does the freaking pitcher ever go deep in a GAME SEVEN??? It's just too bad that his hot streak ran out that day on the mound.
  15. There's really no reason to even watch a Volstad start.
  16. Well, the ticket prices and sellouts don't lie, unfortunately.
  17. Hector Luna and Edwin Maysonet hit grand slams off the Cubs in a period of five days. So there's that.
  18. 2 blown calls against the Cubs by whoever's umping first base.
  19. Letting Kyle Kendrick and Juan Pierre spearhead a rally right after taking the lead: That's our Cubs.
  20. I love when we take advantage of noodle arms.
  21. Oh so close to being 4 back and it was taken away from us. Alas. Win, Cubs.
  22. I still think 2006's is worse, though there's still time.
