    I think the trade of Maholm and the intention to trade Garza and Soriano say more about the 2013 intentions than any quote could. To be somewhat fair, does anyone really expect Soriano to be very useful next season? He will be 37 by then, and it's pretty amazing that the Cubs are even getting reasonable production from him this year.

    My cousin served as stroke (essentially the pace-setter) for the men's 8+ rowing team that rowed in the finals this morning. (He was in Beijing too in the fours where they finished 9th.) He finished 4th this time, three-tenths of a second out of the medals. Tough to take, I'd bet, but he did a hell of a job.

    But the DBacks fans still get to boo him, right? Doesn't deserve it and hasn't gotten it since. Crazy how unproductive he's been this year yet still posts a .360 OBP and has been hovering around .270. Need more pop out of him, but trading him right now at his lowest value makes zero sense. They'll eventually trade him, not sure why, the whole "he's lazy, he doesn't care" is all blown out of proportion -- if anything, he cares too much. Maybe we could trade Castro for Upton in an all- "players getting crapped on by blatantly racist media" deal.

    Oops, you're right. He just seems older to me for some reason. Probably because the Cubs played against him about 300 times prior to arriving here.

    I had to look these up to believe it. Jerome Williams?!? Did he have to beat out Mike Harkey in spring training? I had Williams on my fantasy team for a while. He was actually having a nice year before getting DL'ed.

    Izturis is the 2nd most surprising one - I never would have guessed that 6 years after we traded for him he'd still be getting quality playing time in the bigs. The most surprising one is 38-year-old Miguel Cairo. According to Baseball-Reference, he's been 114 runs worse with the bat than an average player would have been over his career and yet there he is, still kicking.

    No one is arguing Hendry's virtues as a GM. We are saying your assertion that Kenny Williams is far and away better is, to put it kindly, bogus.

    None of this was said. At all. Here was the only comment on it: That's completely reasonable from a Cardinals standpoint. Allen Craig is 2 years older than Felix Hernandez. No, it's not.

    Beach Volleyball?? I can't quite place my finger on why, but women's beach volleyball is not nearly as entertaining as it used to be. It's not nearly as fun when it's in the mid-50s to mid-60s and all the women cover up.

    Many people don't consider 'just making the playoffs a success' like you do. They did win the WS and that's still something we can't say. The failure of Hendry still hangs over this club and will until we dump Soriano, etc... I'm no fan of Kenny but he's managed on a smaller budget and is apparently a better judge of value than Hendry ever was. I've bolded the incorrect parts of this, just to save time. And again, Hendry-built Cubs teams made the playoffs 3 times. In that same timeframe, the White Sox have made the playoffs twice. They're basically the same GM. Same GM? One has a WS ring and is still employed. The other..outside looking in. You're incorrect again. After the last 6-8 years of playoff results it shocks me that there are still people who don't realize that the playoffs are a complete crapshoot.
