  1. I'd only been a Cubs fan for about 4 years, so I was dumb enough to not be THAT broken up about it, because I was young and we had Wood and Prior and Zambrano and Sammy and surely we'd be right back in contention again soon, right? [expletive] stupid teenage Andy. 2008 still hurts more, though, both because that team was better and because I knew that was probably our best shot for some time.
  2. That was pretty terrific. I wanted Detroit to win this series when it started, but we're rapidly approaching the "please God stop STL from winning" phase of October, and I think Boston has a better shot against them.
  3. Counterpoint: 15 weeks of college football is better than 14, even if some weeks aren't great. Also: We have two matchups this week featuring two teams in the top 13. That's pretty damn nice.

  5. They don't have the lead, dude. Gotta save him for a save spot dude. /dusty
  6. I have nieces that are 4 and 6. The thought of someone harming them makes me physically ill. Ugh. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk now Free
  7. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS poles. I'd much prefer some obstructed view in the 200 level in order to have great views in the 400s. Yep. People who hate Wrigley always bellyache about the poles. Don't buy seats there, then. 400 level seats have incredible views and the reason's those damn poles.
  8. Mostly the fans of teams who have nothing to do with that conference's success
  9. If the Cards were willing to pay that, I'd almost like to see it happen. Almost. That's an absolute haul, a good chunk of their near-term rotation and two of their three best young position players. As other worldly as Trout is, I'd have to think the Cards would lose a good chunk of WAR in that exchange. Then again, others would probably magically ascend from the minors to fill the gaps. Pixie dust and all that nonsense. I'd make them take Pujols back. I think any hypothetical negotiations would HAVE to start with them taking Pujols back.
  10. I can't believe the way they make me feel. I don't like when the Cubs/Packers lose big games, but I actually get more angry when the Cardinals win than when my teams lose. It's not quite to that extreme for me, but I definitely hate when they win way more than when any other team wins. I don't watch their games, so at least I don't see them pull this [expletive] live.
  11. I blame Washington's ridiculous handling of Strasburg last year for that more than I blame STL. They were just the lucky bastards that got to play them.
  12. That is the highest open ever. I have to imagine that the Packers and Patriots of a few years back had some pretty big lines, for recent references. The 07 Patriots had lines approaching -20 a couple times, might have had one that peeked just over that.
  13. I love that Hawk keeps saying "besides his love for sabermetrics, what's the draw?" Umm...nothing. That's it. If Theo and Co. think he, along with a good coaching staff, can help develop young players, there really isn't much of anything else we - or anyone else - need out of a manager.
  14. Is, according to multiple reports. Can't imagine they recover and make the playoffs now.
  15. I was just going to ignore this, but let there be no doubt: I think Carolina is one of the 3 or 4 worst-run franchises in the league. They're a terrible football team, with a terrible coach, and a terrible QB who's athletic and exciting enough to distract most observers from the fact that he's won five [expletive] games in three years that came before playoff elimination. There's no joke involved. You won't find anyone that has a lower opinion of that team and that franchise than I do (insert 'no one cares about that team' crack here).
  16. Careful there, the Panthers could make a ru-HAHAHAHA just kidding.
  17. Johnson never even hit the market and David Lee is more or less the same guy. Not to mention I believe Lee is being paid even more because he was a sign-and-trade.
  18. If we split that money up among several mediocre players, that helps the Bulls in no way. I admit to knowing nothing of Harrington's defense, but a quick glance at Basketball-Reference's Win Shares stats shows Boozer having about 3x the Win Shares of Harrington his first 2 years in Chicago, plus the fact that Harrington played 10 games last year vs. Boozer's 5.7 Win Shares.
  19. Who gives a [expletive] if he is "overpaid?" (in reality, the game's best players are underpaid thanks to this cap nonsense). What good does it do you (or the team) if he's making $4M/year less or something? Or do you think he "deserves" even less than that? Do the words "salary cap" mean anything to you? Yes, but I'm not sure you quite understand what it means. I know it means if we hadn't overpaid Boozer than we could have spent that money more wisely elsewhere. I realize there's nothing we can do about that now. That doesn't mean I shouldn't be upset that he's overpaid. Who out of that 2010 FA class could we have spent the money on that would be better than Boozer?
  20. Carolina [expletive] sucks. I'm done with Cam and Rivera. Get them out.
  21. Steve Smith dropped TD in end zone, Brandon LaFell dropped pass on 4th and 1 in red zone (believe it or not, Rivera's learning to go for it sometimes). Butt-ugly half.

  23. I feel fairly sure that there's no 'inside 2 minutes' rule for challenges in college, but I could be wrong.
  24. It looked like it MAY have hit the ground. But by the standard of review (indisputable video evidence), there was no angle that came close to justifying an overturn. Replay officials have blatantly ignored that standard so consistently over the last 7 years that they really ought to just strike it from the rulebook.
  25. Pac-12 crew overturns a 4th-down catch ruling with absolutely nothing resembling indisputable evidence, again to benefit the higher-ranked team. So that's 3 of those today.
