  1. UCLA 66, (11) Texas 3 in 1997. So it's a tie.
  2. Ty Willingham is going to be on the college football selection committee. Ty Willingham's opinion will now be more important than any ranking in determining a national champion in college football.
  3. Well, to be fair, 'being unable to lead a team to the World Series' in the crapshoot that is playoff baseball is not, in and of itself, a shortcoming.
  4. Yep, that's always the first thing that pops in my head. Sort-of related, I feel like a good way to test if you're dealing with a Cubs' die-hard (presuming they're old enough to have seen it) is to ask if they know who the three players in that rundown were. Random thing that only lunatics like us remember, I'm sure.
  5. STL still has 15 outs left. Do not speak until the beast is dead.
  6. This will probably get settled, but there seems to me to be very little chance Pujols would win this. You have to prove malicious intent to win a slander case.
  7. Hasn't been brought up yet other than a brief mention by Old Style, but HaHa Clinton-Dix has been suspended indefinitely and an Alabama assistant has been put on leave, apparently because Clinton-Dix accepted a small loan from said assistant, who also may or may not be affiliated with agents. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jeremy-fowler/23988522/source-alabama-expects-clinton-dix-to-miss-1-3-games He's expected to miss 3 games max, which figures because Bama doesn't play anyone remotely capable of touching them until LSU - 5 games away.
  8. Hoyer officially out for the year with a torn ACL. That sucks.
  9. Between Texas/ISU and this circus at UCLA/Utah, not a good night for college refs.
  10. I was really glad to see Stockton (I literally have no idea why he's still employed) was doing the STL series, which I wasn't going to watch anyway.
  11. Yeah, it's not 'getting boned' when Dusty predictably refused to adjust his lineup for the fact that he was facing a dude who eats lefthanded batters for lunch.
  12. Well, my memory is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure our crowds were pretty awesome in 2003 before the 8th inning of Game 6. Let Pittsburgh go through a few of those and see if they don't turn into tight-asses too
  13. Air Force-Navy and BC-Army apparently on the clock and may be canceled if the government shutdown isn't fixed by Thursday.
  14. And they can amnesty it if it starts to.
  15. I had the same thought. Should have shown the replay they came back with after the break first.
  16. Yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of that - thought it was a little gimmicky. But it's a cool way to start the playoffs, with the added bonus of giving an advantage to the team with the best record.
  17. Wilbon also decries people who think pitcher wins are a stupid stat. Who [expletive] cares what he thinks about baseball?
  18. So... It's our fault were losers but we can't play with a manager who is a loser, so he's collateral damage for our failings and/or strategy to suck. Ok. So he was probably always a placeholder. I wouldn't call him a placeholder. More of an audition. If he'd turned out to be the kind of manager the FO wanted I'm sure he'd have stuck around. He didn't.
  19. 100 times this. The atmosphere at those games would be off the charts. But, as usual, I'm cool with anything that doesn't involve St. Louis.
  20. I know Theo and Co. won't hire a total meatball to manage the team, so I don't really care who gets hired - I do hope this is a sign that we're going to actually make a real effort to win next year.
  21. At least 2 of them will lose again, probably all 3. Georgia and LSU still have to play Alabama to win out and A&M is definitely not beating LSU until they grow a defense. i should have said that im working on the assumption OU doesn't go undefeated this year. Im thinking we'll have the classic slip up against Texas Tech or the classic loss to a [expletive] OSU team. No way a one-loss team from this conference is doing another other than losing in a BCS game to someone. Oh, well yeah, if you lose you're cooked. A slip-up is probably what it will take, though - the Big 12 doesn't look very good at all and you're probably the best team in it.

  23. That was pretty sweet. Also: The Giants and Steelers are absolutely terrible.
  24. Would this mean just one bye per conference? I generally don't like expanding playoffs under any circumstances. 9-7 teams already routinely get into the postseason in the NFL. That's plenty IMO.
