  1. None of us are likely to live to see it (unless it's the Indians, I guess), but with 30+ teams now in every pro league, there are going to be 100-year droughts without titles more often. I wonder if other fans will always be as shitty about it as they are towards the Cubs.
  2. That's what I get for going from memory. Soler was probably due for a day off, although it's too bad he has to get one when he's actually hitting pretty well of late.
  3. Lineup per @MLBLineups Fowler, Schwarber (DH), Coghlan (LF), Rizzo, Bryant, Soler, Montero, Castro (2B), Russell
  4. David is right - even if the Cubs felt like they could sign Bryant long-term at some point, it made sense to hold him down because that enables them to have to pay less money to buy out that year of control. The only way holding down Bryant might not have made sense would've been if Boras/Bryant said, "We'll sign a long-term deal but only if Bryant is NOT held down those 2 weeks."
  5. I saw that. Our fan base can be a bunch of turds sometimes.
  6. The beginning of the cluster luck turn that will give us the division! Probably not, but funny to see that happen to them.
  7. He pimped that shot too. Not over-the-top, but he took a sec to enjoy it. What a stud.
  8. Solid outing by Lester even with some silliness interspersed. Let's hit a couple more dongs and finish this out.
  9. A big wow at this stat. [tweet]https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/631922229694046208[/tweet] Unless I'm mistaken, that 6/21/08 was the Edmonds 2 HR in one inning game.
  10. That was a pretty-ass swing. Schwarber's struggles are over.
  11. Fowler is tattooing the ball today. Glad to see him get rewarded. Woo lead!
  12. The only thing he's done that really annoyed me was put Motte and Soriano in high-leverage spots. Now that he's past that and is using Grimm, Strop and Rondon as the firemen I give him a big thumbs-up.
  13. It's really hard to believe that Haren's ERA is just 0.08 worse than Sale's.
  14. Hopefully Bosio is just telling him to get a [expletive] out and quit worrying about baserunners.
  15. I felt like Lester wouldn't have gotten to first in time anyway on that Braun hit.
  16. Lester, just let Ross do it if you can't make an accurate toss. Goodness.
  17. Pass. I need my wife to be a source of support when my team crushes me, or celebrate with me when they succeed. There's no shortage of people out there to ridicule my teams failures, or minimize their successes. I don't need it in my house. This is probably the best thing about being married to someone who doesn't care about sports. Having a reminder right next to you that emotional investment in this stuff is inherently a bit crazy helps to keep things in perspective after a tough loss.
  18. Nothing we haven't already discussed at length in this article, but still good to see it. [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. St. Louis is a bunch of minions of Satan, but who [expletive] cares, we're comfortably ahead in a playoff race in mid August. It's a beautiful thing.
  20. There's no way he thinks up 1 in the 6th constitutes 'in the bag'. It was probably a combination of keeping Hammel healthy and the opportunity to play matchups in a 1 run game.
  21. Well, I guess it worked out. Don't want Richard seeing any more batters though
