  1. i mean, i'm sure it's fun probably safer than a motorcycle at least. That's my thought, that it's great for a person who likes the idea of motorcycles but also really likes having his head attached to his body.
  2. Actually, I believe Bob said he's going to do more MLB Network now with fewer NBC responsibilities
  3. Same. I think Joe really values Zobrist's ability to make contact in big spots, which is probably why he's not 1. I'd put Zobrist-Schwarber-Bryant-Rizzo 1-4 and bat the pitcher 8th (that part sounds like it'll happen, which I'm jazzed for).
  4. For whatever reason the selection on Amazon is complete crap. I've looked through a couple of times and can't find anything. I was originally going to get like 5 t-shirts but probably won't end up doing that unless they're on clearance or something the next time I'm in Chicago.
  5. Got tickets to July 22-23 against STL. That was strangely easy.
  6. Cauley-Stein will mysteriously come down with a hamstring injury if that starts looking possible, I think.
  7. One of my 5 favorite hits of the postseason. This hit made the game go from 'fake rally' to "holy horsefeathers its going to happen'. You can even tell by the crowd. They seem mostly relaxed until that hit and then all the sudden the crowd just dies. Awesome moment. Had to listen to this on the radio because of work and it's a wonder I didn't crash my car with all the yelling and fist-pumping I was doing.
  8. So they were probably asking for Brown and some combination of Smart, Bradley and Crowder? I'm pretty sure Boston would've given any 3 of those 4 guys for Butler if the Nets picks weren't included in any way. Find that tweet hard to believe tbh. I don't know if that's necessarily the case. I feel like I've seen Crowder's name come up before as a name Boston would be hesitant to deal - not that he or any of the other three would be the deciding factor in something like this, but combined together I could see Stevens not wanting to break up his core that drastically.
  9. My completely uninformed theory on Boston is that they're so used to completely pillaging other teams in trade — because McHale handed them KG and because Brooklyn went completely horsefeathering insane — that the idea of actually paying fair value for anything is beyond the pale for them now.
  10. They should rig up the videos in New York to stop exactly 45 seconds after the replay ump taps into them. If you can't find clear evidence the call was wrong, the video stops and the play stands.
  11. Getting rid of the DH would speed things up a small bit as well (more outs, presumably fewer pitches), but that's obviously not happening either.
  12. I don't love it, but if they're desperate to cut game times, this is much more common sense than most of the other garbage Manfred has tossed out.
  13. I'm definitely getting the Verducci book and definitely not coming within 10 feet of Kaplan's
  14. The 13-inning game was one of my favorites of the year, because the team had already built up so much goodwill with me by that point that I was just waiting to see who won the game for us, rather than stressing about whether we'd win. Heard Javy's homer on the radio and I think I woke my then-pregnant and napping wife up with my yelping.
  15. Bummer. I didn't want him to get hurt. Just wanted him to stink.
  16. Good call. I didn't see that 2015 game live but recall the replays now that you mention it.
  17. The first play I can remember Russell exhibiting genuine pumped-up emotion, too (even when he hit the 3-run HR in the first home game, he just raised his arms). It would not be the last time.
  18. I would tell Hoyer that if they don't want to mess up pitching staffs, then institute ties. This idea is grab-bag bullcrap, just like every other idea Manfred has proposed.
  19. It was maybe a blessing we didn't get HFA considering that got us 4 games with Kyle. It's utterly impossible to quantify or prove, but I also think it helped mentally that Game 7 was on the road. Wrigley would've been a morgue if the Rajai Davis thing had happened there.
  20. Seriously. I can't horsefeathering stand when sports go out of their way to appease the people that don't like their product to begin with. There is nothing baseball can do to make baseball appealing to people who don't like baseball. Well, this seems like a silly position. The things they're doing to try to do that, though, are all kinds of wrong. People who think baseball is boring aren't going to suddenly not think baseball is boring because of any (within reason) rule change MLB could make. As a friend of mine put it, if you can't watch soccer for 20 minutes without wanting them to be able to use their hands and tackle each other, then you won't watch soccer. That doesn't mean it has to change. (An extreme example, I know.)

  22. I was at that game in the LF bleachers - we couldn't see the actual catch because it was right in front of the ivy but were absolutely stunned when Wood made the play.
  23. I was really hoping this thread would become the umpteenth politics thread on the site
  24. For the record, there was an ESPN.com article about Belichick's overtime decision to kick last season against the Jets, and as of that time, the receiving team had won 33 of the 65 non-ties in OT under the current rules, barely over 50% (I don't know of the stats post-2016 but I imagine they haven't drastically changed). Seems perfectly equitable to me.
  25. I think the rules as is are fine - the game has to end eventually, and college OT rules, while I suppose more equitable, also put too much emphasis on the kicker - but your first suggestion is intriguing.
