  1. My favorite one of these came from the Football Outsiders guy Schatz, a Patriots fan who literally is paid to be Mr. Analytical and because of that should've known beyond everyone that the game wasn't over.
  2. I can't believe that kid didn't have any other options. It shouldn't take much critical thinking to deduce that if Bama doesn't give enough of a crap to hold a spot for you, you're never ever ever going to play there. It's ok, though, no one will give a rat's ass that Saban screwed over yet another kid in October when he's in the title hunt again.
  3. That would be because there is no evidence of it whatsoever other than Correa's word, and Correa is a convicted felon. So.
  4. His insane break on the ball is what made that catch possible. That was probably the 'holy horsefeathers' defensive play of the year, which is saying something with this group.
  5. No kidding. Extra draft picks and draft money is a pretty nice outcome for Houston. I'm surprised MLB awarded them the picks instead of just removing them from the draft.
  6. That play was a total I'm Javy horsefeathering Baez moment. As soon as I could tell the ball would fall to Baez I assumed he'd get the out.
  7. Rajon Rondo can horsefeathers off. Maybe if you weren't completely horsefeathering useless, this team would actually be decent. This might actually annoy me more than the time he destroyed Brad Miller's face and somehow wasn't called for a flagrant foul.
  8. If they're going to be terrible, at least they're entertaining? I'll steer clear of restating the 'why the horsefeathers did you fire Thibs' rant that I've already made several times, and just agree with the general thought that GarPax hired a coach to run a certain kind of roster and then went out and acquired a whole bunch of people that don't fit that idea one iota. Hoiberg is almost certainly a terrible coach, but I do feel bad for him trying to win with this mismatched group. I don't follow all the Bulls, but at least one went on a mini-Tweetstorm last night in response to Wade and Butler, FWIW:
  9. Brent Musburger announcing his retirement from play-by-play after next Tuesday night's Super Tuesday game. Bummer. He obviously lost some MPH on his fastball in the last couple of years, but he was fantastic for a long time.
  10. I listened to the same podcast (Ringer MLB Show, BTW, which is populated by a bunch of former BP/FanGraphs guys if that's your thing) and thought it was interesting, too. I'm fine with whoever gets voted in being voted in, but it did make me think that other guys would get my vote over Hoffman et al if I was in the same spot.
  11. CSN Chicago, along with all the other CSNs, will have in-market streaming of local MLB games through the NBC Sports app this season, provided you have a pay-TV package that includes the channel. http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2017/01/19/for-the-first-time-nbc-sports-regional-networks-add-live-local-major-league-baseball-streaming/
  12. I cover high school softball a lot and even the really good teams don't have anyone that can hit the ball hard enough to hit an infielder in the head. That ball, at that size, is just not going to go that fast unless Barry Bonds or someone is taking a whack. Lol, what? I've seen way too many girls get hit by line drives. it's why so many of them wear masks on the infield. my god, I saw a pitcher take one off the forehead this past season that the left fielder had to go back to damn near the warning track to pick up Apparently I cover worse teams than I thought.
  13. one theory I've always had is the helmet provides a false sense of security. Football players use it like a weapon, which is dumb. But the baseball helmet is barely a thing, it really doesn't do much but provide minimal protection from a pitched ball, and players aren't going to go crazy thinking they are protected from it. The softball helmet is like a baseball/football helmet hybrid and it may give some players a false sense of security to play with reckless abandon with regards to their head. Combine that with shorter base paths and shorter infield plays and more opportunity for quick contact and that's why it's exponentially more dangerous. Wasn't thinking of the facemask and stuff. Yea, those softball helmets are overkill. Side note, my niece played rec league sodtball - which was awful to watch- no one could field AND they were allowed to steal, so the average 6 inning game looked like a high scoring football game. But my niece's team all wore facemasks in the field (no head protection just a facemask with an elastic band). Now safety is great and all, but there was probably one girl out of 20 who could hit the ball past the dirt. I think the "LF", standimg right next to the SS, was gonna be okay. On the other team, only the pitcher wore this facemask. I cover high school softball a lot and even the really good teams don't have anyone that can hit the ball hard enough to hit an infielder in the head. That ball, at that size, is just not going to go that fast unless Barry Bonds or someone is taking a whack.
  14. Read more: http://www.momsteam.com/health-safety/concussions-women-more-succeptible#ixzz4W7fHE5Y2 Ron Burgundy approves http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/53/53243693fe22162c28417bfa6eb321626886afb62a2d07d43054aa1eb37d1001.jpg
  15. The Jags' owner has been pretty open about being committed to Jacksonville.
  16. Paul Lukas said the LA logo is just promotional and that the Chargers aren't changing logos right now.
  17. I'm stealing the joke, but he already did walk away from basketball for an extended period of time. What was it, 7 games he played between May 2012 and Oct. 2014?
  18. Apparently he was playing ill and won't travel to Washington for the next one against the Wizards.
  19. The AFC is already pretty much a fait accompli for the Patriots, I would prefer it not be any easier for them.
  20. My wife really likes BBT, so this is also my answer. If we're only counting shows that were my idea, HIMYM and Friends, depending which you think is worse. Maybe ABC's Muppets reboot show that aired this past season.
  21. If the Wrigley Bowl replaced some other bowl (I have to think it would), sure, I guess it'd be cool. It would probably have to include a B1G team just to ensure attendance.
  22. He's in his sixth season, with a lot of minutes already under his belt, I'd say they're already doing it
  23. It is. The 8 disc set is just the World Series broadcasts plus the pennant clincher, albeit with radio broadcast options too.
  24. Anyone who understands math? 1/3 of teams in MLB playoffs vs 1/32 of FBS teams in their playoff. To achieve the 1/3 mark there would have to be a 42 team CFB playoff.
  25. He threw some major shade at ESPN on the way out though with that "Too much media saturation" barb. Holy hell Godwin. What a play
