  1. I'm a little jealous of you rich bastards that live near Chicago and can go to these playoff games, but then again, I did get the Soriano walk-off slam in 09 and last year's Brian Matusz/Travis Wood in LF/Jon Lester walk-off bunt game, so I've had it pretty good too.
  2. It all worked out ok, but that trade where Boston handed Lackey at the league minimum to STL for that bag of crap was a really bad move at the time and is now a truly awful one.
  3. That's something he does once in a blue moon for a particularly huge home run, IIRC. Why is unknown, but it's a thing of his.
  4. I vaguely remember that coming up when we acquired the last of the 3, but it's always worth mentioning again since one of them did it for us.
  5. I thought he jumped the gun a bit bringing in Lester when he did - Hendricks was pitching fantastically and had by all rights struck out the batter that ultimately reached base and led to his removal. But Kipnis was up and the game was relatively close, so it's a more than excusable move. Having Javy bunt with 2 strikes and a man on 3rd with 1 out in the top of the 9th (unless that was Javy's call) was probably the only move that struck me as ridiculous and stupid. But I'm absolutely in the "won title, don't care" category.
  6. The NLCS effectively ended when Rizzo and Russell busted out in Game 4. I think having a little brush with mortality and overcoming it with flying colors - in both the NLDS and NLCS - helped a lot, if only for the fan base, when we fell behind in the World Series.
  7. I've got my dumb team (Carolina) as usual
  8. Jackie Robinson. Unless you mean when he integrated baseball (which would nix the 'rival' part of the story), he was traded from Brooklyn to the (then SF) Giants and retired before joining them, so I'm not sure that counts.
  9. I loved that article. Surprised that story hadn't been told yet.
  10. Off the top of my head, some sort of oversize 2016 championship flag right below the American flag would be neat. I'm sure there's a better idea though.
  11. I'm still mad at the Magic for matching the Bulls' offer for Redick (for no damn reason) in the 2010 offseason.
  12. I'd be fine with those striped blue ones as occasional road unis, but the gray ones from the Strop clip need to be the regular road jerseys as of yesterday.
  13. I'm just chiming in to say that Vasgersian's call of Javy's home run against SF might have been my favorite single call of the postseason.
  14. i mean, i'm sure it's fun probably safer than a motorcycle at least. That's my thought, that it's great for a person who likes the idea of motorcycles but also really likes having his head attached to his body.
  15. Actually, I believe Bob said he's going to do more MLB Network now with fewer NBC responsibilities
  16. Same. I think Joe really values Zobrist's ability to make contact in big spots, which is probably why he's not 1. I'd put Zobrist-Schwarber-Bryant-Rizzo 1-4 and bat the pitcher 8th (that part sounds like it'll happen, which I'm jazzed for).
  17. For whatever reason the selection on Amazon is complete crap. I've looked through a couple of times and can't find anything. I was originally going to get like 5 t-shirts but probably won't end up doing that unless they're on clearance or something the next time I'm in Chicago.
  18. Got tickets to July 22-23 against STL. That was strangely easy.
  19. Cauley-Stein will mysteriously come down with a hamstring injury if that starts looking possible, I think.
  20. One of my 5 favorite hits of the postseason. This hit made the game go from 'fake rally' to "holy horsefeathers its going to happen'. You can even tell by the crowd. They seem mostly relaxed until that hit and then all the sudden the crowd just dies. Awesome moment. Had to listen to this on the radio because of work and it's a wonder I didn't crash my car with all the yelling and fist-pumping I was doing.
  21. So they were probably asking for Brown and some combination of Smart, Bradley and Crowder? I'm pretty sure Boston would've given any 3 of those 4 guys for Butler if the Nets picks weren't included in any way. Find that tweet hard to believe tbh. I don't know if that's necessarily the case. I feel like I've seen Crowder's name come up before as a name Boston would be hesitant to deal - not that he or any of the other three would be the deciding factor in something like this, but combined together I could see Stevens not wanting to break up his core that drastically.
  22. My completely uninformed theory on Boston is that they're so used to completely pillaging other teams in trade — because McHale handed them KG and because Brooklyn went completely horsefeathering insane — that the idea of actually paying fair value for anything is beyond the pale for them now.
  23. They should rig up the videos in New York to stop exactly 45 seconds after the replay ump taps into them. If you can't find clear evidence the call was wrong, the video stops and the play stands.
  24. Getting rid of the DH would speed things up a small bit as well (more outs, presumably fewer pitches), but that's obviously not happening either.
  25. I don't love it, but if they're desperate to cut game times, this is much more common sense than most of the other garbage Manfred has tossed out.
