  1. Other teams are really good at squeezing every run out of their chances against us, huh
  2. 5 straight wins is a pretty good run for Lester
  3. I read the World Series clincher thread yesterday and I would recommend it at a time like this.
  4. The part about 'another dead guy down' when he passed Whitey Ford in strikeouts and his agent informing him that Whitey Ford is alive was pretty freaking funny.
  5. Yeah, that was the least surprising thing since Gimenez horsefeathers up our scoring chance in the 5th. Wrong. It was the least surprising thing since the seventh, when Almora hit one on the ground and had no chance to beat out a double play. And I even posted about that. I have no excuse
  6. Yeah, that was the least surprising thing since Gimenez fucked up our scoring chance in the 5th.
  7. There is no rational explanation for it. It's not like our hitters look any different or visibly change much as far as I can tell. They just stop getting hits, or even productive outs, doing whatever it is they're doing.
  8. That was so predictable. Thank God we fired our sell out for power hitting coach so we could be every bit as horsefeathering terrible in key spots but with no power.
  9. That ball was foul, so moot point. Would be an interesting question on a fair ball though.
  10. I'm sure our crack B team relievers can shut out LA for 5 innings
  11. These guys are really good at torpedoing scoring chances
  12. If Maeda is gonna hit those spots all night he's throwing a shutout.
  13. You got everything you mentioned right, although the wildest/funniest part was that Sosa and Girardi (who hit the single that started the play) were also in simultaneous rundowns at second and first respectively. That play seemed to take like 5 minutes but was really not that much longer than your average rundown.
  14. Really? Predicting playoff outcomes based on how a team is playing in June? Since we still have a better record than the Dodgers and Nationals, I suppose they will bounce out even faster this year. Yeah, the biggest reason for confidence in the Cubs at the moment is that the teams we thought we'd be competing with aren't really doing so hot either. Unlike 16 or 17, it might be one of those years where it just comes down to who gets hot.
  15. 'The two sides have been talking about an extension' is an interesting way to say 'NBCSCH has been bringing up extension talk while the Cubs dodge their phone calls and start working on their network'.
  16. It makes me really frustrated that those clowns completely whiffed on consecutive #1 draft picks and didn't do any of the smart sign-and-flip moving that we did to build their roster and now they're the ones blowtorching the league.
  17. We had the best record in the NL before this series. There was nothing that needed to be kicked on. This series sucks and is embarrassing but the comparisons to last year's team don't really hold. It's so weird how much more frustrating this team is even though it's easily better than last year's at this point (I don't feel like I'm alone there). It's probably just the extra year removed from the title that's doing it, I guess.
  18. Last year I figured it was only a matter of time before we kicked it on. I have no idea why but I don't feel that way this year.
