    He’s made similar plays a few times this year. That was a very nice play by Happ, but Schwarbs has made similar ones. I feel like Schwarber’s biggest weakness defensively is going toward the line, but I could be wrong. Wait, what? His biggest strength is going towards the line. He's probably worst at going back on a line drive.

    i always forget about the crazy horsefeathers that happened in this game because i was in vegas and i started watching it while getting ready to go out. stopped paying attention when it got out of hand and then was shocked when i came back to the room at 4 am and turned on sportscenter. That game is still top to bottom my favorite Cubs game I've ever been to, even after also seeing the Bote slam last year (I've been wildly lucky in recent years). Just complete lunacy for, really, almost a half-day straight counting when I found out early in the afternoon that we were shelving Hendricks for Brian horsefeathering Matusz.

    If Montgomery's usage was any indication, Joe using a lefty as a LOOGY seems like a safe bet. It was the complete wrong way to handle Monty, but clearly the right way to handle this dude.

    I didn't know this but apparently Holland was DFA'd a few days ago. He sucks and I'm not sure why we did this. But whatever.

Considering we were coming off postseasons in which we A) won the title in large part because of Chapman's 8-out save in Game 5 of the Series and B) advanced to the NLCS in large part because of Wade Davis' 7-out save in Game 5 against Washington, it was straight-up stupid to then go sign a closer you knew damn well you were never going to be able to use that way even if he didn't break before then. Kimbrel can’t be used that way either and is on the record as saying he doesn’t want to be a multi inning guy, fwiw. I'm not advocating it (obviously in an ideal world Strop would still be good and we could just go Cishek/Strop/Kimbrel), but Chapman was on the record saying he didn't want to do that either, and he still did.

    Yeah, I still don’t hate that one. Weird, because I've always hated it. I get that the price wasn't a roster-buster, but it still seemed like a doomed acquisition. Even in its most successful version, he was going to be a closer you had to handle like a piece of china. No long saves. No (or infrequent, IIRC) back-to-back days of usage. Bingo. Considering we were coming off postseasons in which we A) won the title in large part because of Chapman's 8-out save in Game 5 of the Series and B) advanced to the NLCS in large part because of Wade Davis' 7-out save in Game 5 against Washington, it was straight-up stupid to then go sign a closer you knew damn well you were never going to be able to use that way even if he didn't break before then. The minute he wasn't able to pitch the day after throwing 2 damn pitches in Miami because he had supposedly warmed up too much, I knew that one was a losing move.

    Descalso is an absolute waste of a roster spot at this point. I'd rather see him go. At least Almora is an OK defender and can occasionally run into one at the plate.
