  1. BSU faces Oakland City tonight in their season opener. The so called "Mighty Oaks" apparently lost by 60 or something to Butler, who is a far inferior team to the Cards, so this should be ugly.
  2. Ball State loses to CMU 31-24 in overtime to end the season 4-7. So much for ending on a 4 game win streak. In fairness, BSU played perhaps the hardest schedule in the history of any MAC team this year, with three nightmare road nonconference games, no games against creampuff Buffalo or Kent State, and with the exception of Eastern Michigan, every Cardinal opponent this season has a .500 or better record. ND leads the Cuse 14-3, and their defense has been dominant. Not surprising since the Irish have scored more 2nd quarter points than Cuse has any points at all.
  3.   Brilliant.
  4. Is there someting wrong with Matt Morris besides his Cardinal-ness? The more I think about it, he should come cheaper than Millwood or Burnett, and would be nice 3 or 4 starter. Particularly based on Rothschild's recent comments, that makes some sense. I don't dislike Morris as some do. I recall that he and Wood were considered the future aces of the NL not so long ago. Plus, he now has a ton of playoff experience with an organization that does not tolerate excuses or nonsense. I like that about him. I am wary of how much cash we might give him, but 3 years sounds fine, especially since this will be Maddux's final one with us. I wouldn't mind having Morris, although I am sure all the Cards fans here on NSBB would roast us for getting him.
  5. I agree with UMFan. And being a mod would be too cool for words. :P This is pretty much my favorite website, that's why I spend every waking minute of my life here! And about a post of the week thread... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/graphics/2004/03/16/bfstars16.jpg Do it. DO it. DO it.
  6. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when I click on the orange New Posts button next to a thread, I get an error message that says "www.northsidebaseball.com could not be found". Any diagnoses for what might be causing that? They'd be greatly appreciated.
  7. Or Jason Whitlock. Or Alan Grant. Basically any black sports pundit except for maybe Charles Barkley.
  8. Bulls suck... Really bad. Season all but over. We're as good as 3-8 playing the Lakers, Spurs and Rockets next three games.
  9. Sweets starting over Songaila! :D And the Bulls lead it early 11-6. Coincidence?
  10. GO BEARS!! [rant] That's one thing I hate about all of this. Teams getting made to look worse after they play teams that are at full strength at the time, then they sustain injuries, suck for a while, and no one takes it seriously. Example. Panthers beat Patriots 27-17. The only injured Pat at the time? Bruschi. Soon after that, Seymour and Harrison went down along with a bunch of other players. The Patriots team Carolina beat was much better than the 5-4 patchwork team now in assembly. It's the same thing as Notre Dame/Michigan basketball. ND lost to what was then a very good Michigan team on the road by one point. The Wolverines then watched a bunch of players injured, Daniel Horton get suspended for beating his girlfriend, and UM ended up one of the worst teams in the country, destroying ND's RPI rating and helping them get passed over for March Madness. [/rant] Carolina has to play 6-3 Atlanta twice, 6-3 Tampa once and 6-3 Dallas once in their final 5 games. You'll learn a lot about the team in those four games (as well as this one).
  11. NO hatred here. When I see a move I like I will give props to Hendry. Eyre isn't abad signing but he is also overpaid. I don't even have to bring up what I think about Rusch and Perez. If Hendry signs Furcal or he trades for an impact bat/pitcher I will give him the props he rightfully deserves. As it stands right now we are not a contending team. Obviously it's early but when it is all said and done if I feel Hendry has done enough I will be happy and commend him until then I will call it how I see it. It's not hatred at all. Maybe it's your phrasing then. The deal turned out to be totally unhelpful. However blaming Hendry for that is totally misplaced. It was a good deal, if Lawton would have stayed on the roids and had a .370 OBP, no question about it. It was a solid effort to fix an abysmal leadoff situation. I would say the trade didn't work out, and technically, it wasn't worth much, but it was NOT hendry's fault in ANY way shape or form. Who the hell could know he would lose .100 off his OBP just by swtiching from the Pirates to the Cubs? It's very easy to sit here after the fact and judge, but I heard only positive reactions from the majority of people on this site and Cubs fans elsewhere in regards to this trade when it happened. Well, if you go back to the thread you will see my tone did not change on the trade. I said it then and I'll say it now the trade did not help the Cubs. It wasn't more so what Lawton did it was the fact that we were already almost mathematically out of it. The Cubs really weren't that far out until they lost eight in a row in early August. We were far from done at the end of July.
  12. Vance, did I miss something or what but where is Jerome Williams? Id much rather have him as our #5 than Rusch. I dont think you had him traded in your original scenerio so I was just wondering. I also would rather have Williams as a number five. My guess is Williams is either in AAA waiting for an injury to the rotation or has been used in a trade. With the way our roster has shaken out so far, if I'm the GM I'm shopping Williams in a deal for a bat. If we ship out Williams, we'd better get a good bat out of the deal. I don't want to watch him become another Willis or Moyer.
  13. What about the Greenberglar was bad enough to get him DFA'd? :?
  14. Apparently so. There's a rather detailed discussion of sexuality in Rants that is decidedly adult in nature, yet that goes on unabated. I don't understand why some plainly adult discussions are allowed to flourish while the whole HCP was obliterated, right down to the fracking cartoon edition. I don't think it was so much the pictures as the vulgar commentary. Even I thought it was a little graphic and I'm pretty permissive about that stuff. That said, the discussion in the sexuality thread is just as graphic, but its perceived philosophical qualities makes it more allowable.
  15. Actually, Marlon sucks pretty bad. Neifi isn't worth 3 times as much but te Nats aren't exactly getting a bargain either.
  16. The difference was that the Red Sox's "Idiots" were Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez. Our "Idiots" are Neifi Perez and Jose Macias. And Dusty Baker. So, Boston had all perfect players on their team? Perfect manager? No, I was just pointing out that most of the "Idiots" that were good clubhouse guys were also very good players in Boston. Our "clubhouse guys" are not good baseball players, and in the case of Baker, not a good manager.
  17. Maybe Eyre will drown Dusty. We can dream.

  19. Uh, this really isn't the best argument to use, being as the Bears needed an intercepted Jeff Garcia pass to beat the Bears less than 3 weeks ago. Uh, So the Bears barely beat the lions and the Panthers barely beat the lions.....sounds close to me. Lotsa people on TV and radio are making these guys to be bad asses and SB favorites of the NFC. Bad asses dont just barely beat the lions. Badasses do, though, have bad weeks once in a while. I can't believe you chose the Lions argument over a more obvious one, such as "they needed three red-zone interceptions just to beat the Cardinals" and "they lost to the Saints at home". Carolina is weird. If they don't fumble the ball late in the 1st half against the Saints and Delhomme doesn't throw a pick late in the 4th against the Dolphins, they're probably 9-0 right now. On the other hand, if Chris Weinke doesn't lead a miracle drive to beat Detroit and any of those three red-zone interceptions against Arizona is not made, Carolina is probably 5-4. I think the team of the last few weeks would qualify as "badass", however.
  20. I'm pretty sure Ezequiel Astacio is going to win this thing.
  21. It's settled then. Josie Maran's title will never be challenged! In any case, I don't disagree that things were getting out of hand, and at least from outward appearances, I'll have plenty of time to spend in the Transactions forum instead to read the plentiful posts in there. I attempted not to be too objectifying in my posts and I hope I didn't offend anybody when I posted in those threads. More time to spend talking about the Cubs is how I look at it. That's never a bad thing. :) Focker, OUT.
  22. Something tells me...this Murton kid will be right there with Bay. Maybe not much with the power, but all-around skills. I like Jason Bay, and I would trade Scott Rolen, Anthony Reyes, and Yadier Molina (cause Pujols would be overpaying) for Bay....and the Cards get Todd Walker, Jose Macias, and Mark Redman. That's a fair trade. Good point NSAvenger. Murton has the tools, the plate discipline, and if the end of 2005 showed us anything, maybe even the power to be right on Bay's level. Now whether he is able to do that or if he becomes another minor-league Cubs bust, we shall see. I'd bet closer to the former.
  23. Hey, I can dream can't I? The reality is he'll find some bum like Woody Williams or Tony Womack who becomes magically better while with the Cards before crashing back to reality with another team. It really is quite amazing. :wall: I'm not bitter. :^o You should be. The Cardinals' ability to plug any moran into the lineup and get good production is astounding to me. John Rodriguez, Abraham Nunez anyone?
  24. I have a feeling Nomar will end up in L.A. Last I had read though, Milwaukee is thinking of holding onto Overbay. Maybe Milwaukee wants to bring in a nice haul of them shiny dodger prospects and they put themselves in a good position to do that by stating their intentions of keeping Overbay. I've read that Overbay is as good as gone, and the Brewers are ready to start Prince Fielder at first.
  25. Perhaps that reflects more on the need for a manager to bite the bullett sometimes and give his backend guys work, so as to save the good guys from breaking down. Unfortunately I don't see it happening. Dusty will find his 2 or 3 guys, and run them into the ground by July, when he'll whine about needing more relievers. I agree with that. He loves to play the hot hand. If a reliever is throwing well, he won't hesitate to use him every chance he gets. The workload has to be balanced. I was trying to complile a list of pitchers who possibly have been affected by Baker's use/abuse of the pitching staff. You can make a case.. Prior Wood Nen Fox Livan I fear to see who might be next on the list. I think Z might be next unfortunately. Is it just me or is Z just an old-school fireballer who can throw this many innings without problems? He's done it three years in a row now without problems, whereas the first year Wood and Prior were used in the same manner they started breaking down. I just think Z has just about the biggest rubber arm in baseball. As for who's next, it'll be His Eyreness beyond the shadow of a doubt. He's a Dusty boy, so if he shows any amount of results this year (and probably even if he doesn't), Dusty will use him anytime he can.
