    I think we can take Ohio State to be honest. It will be a good game for sure but I am not near as worried about it as most Irish fans seem to be. Definitely the 2nd-best bowl matchup behind SC/Texas.

    Because it sells. Just because they had no trophy two years ago doesn't mean we can't all pretend for the sake of ratings. The words "co" and "National Chamos" should never be in the same sentence. The new AP poll has USC, Texas, PSU, OSU, ND, and Oregon as their top 6.

    I'd rather have spent 13 million on Furcal than the 10+ million over 5 years that Burnett is going to get. I wouldn't feel any more comfortable with Burnett than Wood. There are better things to spend money on. With our luck, I don't feel comfortable with any Cub pitcher out there.

    My friend put his fist through a support pillar in his basement, breaking two of his fingers. This is when the Cardinals came back from like 5 runs or something in the ESPN Sunday Night game, Renteria hit a walk-off jack to win it. Instead of hitting things, I just drank. I remember that game, it was in 2002. That may have been an Alfonseca special. Every game in 2002 was an Alfonseca special. See: Cubs 6, White Sox 0, July 2002 turns into a loss.

    Any poll that has Oregon as a top-5 team has to be biased or wrong in some form or fashion. Their 10-1 record is no more impressive to me than West Virginia's 10-1 record and the Mountaineers are nowhere near top-5.

    I just realized something. ND, Oregon, and OSU are ALL liable to be top-6 BCS teams next week (currently ranked OSU 6, Oregon 7 and ND 8 ), although top-6 at-large teams are supposed to be in automatically. How would that work?

    After JH's treatment of Neifi, nothing could sour their relationship IMO.

    The Cubs offered more (not more per, but more) with more guaranteed years. That's the weird thing about this. Turning down a 5-year deal for a 3-year deal flies in the face of all agent logic.

    Just to note: USC's FB's comments about beating up on those "pansies" proved correct, did it not? And they definitely did not let up, throwing for a TD up 45-6 late in the 3rd.

    He was having problems well before a testing program was put in place, I think that's a ridiculous assessment.

    Why? Let Cedeno start and address the outfield situation instead. If you get good bats for CF and RF, no one should have a problem with Cedeno starting. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't complain if the Cubs did get Lugo. However, I would complain if they panicked due to losing out on Furcal and decided to give up way to much for Lugo when they already have a very solid option on the roster in Cedeno. hey i would love Cedeno to be the starting SS. However, I'm a realist and it's not going to happen with Johnnie B. Baker as the manager. Then Hendry might want to consider offering an apology and a reasonable contract to Nomar. I wouldn't come within ten miles of Hendry if I was Nomar.

    Aha! I was wondering why he'd possibly decline 5/nearly 50 for 3/40. (The LA Times article said that we had offered him 5 years and just under 50 mill.)
