  1. It was hard for us to take your injuries too seriously when guys like John Rodriguez and Abraham O. Nunez and So Taguchi immediately jumped in and hit .280+ and outperformed not only just about every other bench player in the league, but also many starters. OK, but I just showed where the loss of Rolen as an example cost us hypothetically 30 runs over the course of a season. You won 100 games. That wasn't enough? Just playing. I'm not looking forward to having to face Rolen again this season. He kills us.
  2. You think between STLoser and Soccer that we might have people that can rival our buddy Edward K. in Indianapolis?
  3. I do agree with Soccer on one point regarding Farnsworth. I never felt all that comfortable when he was in the game, knowing that at any time he might fire six or seven consecutive balls. Then again, the only two relief pitchers of the last three seasons that I felt good about having in the game were Borowski in 03 and Dempster in 05, so my expectations were pretty high.

  5. If anyone other than Todd Walker (or Hairston against lefties) plays second for an extended period this season, everyone in the organization should be fired: Dusty and his team for playing Neifi too much, and Hendry and his team for bringing him back for 6 times as much as anyone else would have given him. I'm not even kidding.
  6. We have a winner to the "Juan Pierre needs a new nickname" contest. I know I'm calling him that from now on. :P
  7. WFT? I agree with this move. I hope he bats Albert 8th now.
  8. Oh, they would have? How did they do against MSU this past season? Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten after watching the mighty Penn State go from a perennial powerhouse as an indy to getting knocked around like a good team should. In the Big Ten, ND would be the next Minnesota. And I'd judge that over the next decade or so, ND will be better than most of the top-tier Big Ten tams. I must disagree, kind sir.Well, then refer back to this post in 2016 and we'll see who's right. :D
  9. Which team do you see that being? I don't know what UK thinks, but I like the Mets in the NL.
  10. 3 game-winning homers in a week to tie the SEASON record early in 2003. Then he hit a 4th that Geoff Jenkins pulled back into the park against Milwaukee in that 16-inning marathon that CPatt eventually won with a homer. That was a fun day. :)
  11. Wow. Carolina's got some major guts. And Duke's got some major hands around their own throat.
  12. Technically, that game never happened. :P
  13. It could also be mentioned that he's been on, like, four teams since July 30, 2004. Clearly the man has a problem sticking. No one is more relieved that Bartman reached for that foul ball than KGonz.
  14. The Detroit Pistons don't have a problem with the philosophy of having no star players. I wouldn't say they have a clear go-to guy, well at least not anymore than Gordon is for the Bulls. The only problem with that reasoning is that every single one of the Pistons' starters would probably be THE go to guy or at least the 2nd option on the Bulls. It's not a team of no stars, it's a team of stars working together. There's a big difference.
  15. Ball State won 67-60 over Buffalo, but the student section, which has been known as The Nest since the beginning of last season, had the lowest turnout I've seen in my time here. Ouch.
  16. I agree that the Cubs have improved, and I agree that I wish they'd improved more. Whether or not a "true leadoff man" was really needed this off-season, the Cubs have one that is substantially better than any schlub that batted 1/2 last year. And their rotation should (should) be much more healthy than last year, not to mention better. The pen will be better. All things considered the Cubs ought to win at least 85 games this year even when you factor in the inevitable missed time by Wood. And I also agree the Cards are worse. Any time you lose OFs like Walker and Sanders and replace them with Bigbie and Encarnacion, coupled with replacing Grudzie with Miles, you're looking at a worse team. But the Cards will probably still win 90 games or more. Even with the changes in the division, I still wholeheartedly expect STL to win the division fairly easily again. I hold out some hope that it might not happen.
  17. So is that your prediction - the Cubs will win the division? I hope you're right! On the other hand, won't that mean three more years of Dusty Baker? Hmm... Maybe Baker will quit on a high note. Maybe I'm crazy, but if the Cubs were to somehow win the division title, with this team as currently assembled, Dusty would have to be held partially responsible.
  18. Still Sox fans. And it'll get worse when we get more press than them in the month leading up to the season.
  19. yeah tell me about it. And why did Ben inbound the ball on the final play? To give the ball to one of the slowest shooters on the team with .7 seconds left? I guess I'll be enjoying the 2 lotto picks this year  Noc would have made it before the buzzer without the pump fake. It's a good thing I don't root for a college basketball team that loses games like this. Oh wait...
  20. Luol Deng has just lost my respect. What a waste of another Ben Gordon gem. All he had to do was STAND there and wait to get fouled but he had to pass off and that was that.
  21. I missed the beginning of Bilas's bit, but he went off on how the end of the BC game was a bad call, but that it was isolated. He was getting kinda upset, with the "unless someone can step forward with empirical evidence or a coach steps up" bit, even though I'm pretty sure there is said evidence that Duke gets calls. Vitale blabbered about how they get all the good players, which makes no sense. He also said that they always slash and attack the basket, which to my brief knowledge appears wrong as well. Phelps hardly said anything. Jay here is some facts. Duke plays three guards, shoots a majority of threes, and plays in your face defense. Those three things are what makes them similar in style to Illinois. Illinois usually fouls more than the team they are playing because they shoot so much on the outside and play good defense. Why wouldn't this then apply to Duke, oh whats that, because they are Duke and all white guys so they get every call. Ok that makes more sense.
  22. Not by much. A Marlins' no facial hair policy is like having a no sex policy for your little league team. The only reason I opened this thread was to see where the first "everyone on the Marlins is like 20 years old" joke was made and here it is, post number eight.
  23. ND beat Michigan 2 out of 3 times with inferior talent and an inferior coach - they'll own the series now that they will (soon) have better talent and now have a better coach.
