  1. Way to convince him Berkman! There's one Astro that must not want him back that much
  2. Pierre Cedeno Walker Aramis Barrett Murton Jones Hairston Pitcher That's what the order should be everyday until Lee comes back (give or take resting a few guys every so often). Murton's struggling let him hit in the 6th spot for now. I like the lineup with Cedeno hitting 2nd. Too bad Ronny lost his ROY eligibility, Baker had him ride the pine too much last year... Didn't the fact that he broke his hand the last month, or so, while still in the ML affect it? I think, at one point he was playing consistently then he got injured and sat. They weren't going to demote him, at that point, but if they had he may have been able to save enough days for eligibility. Didn't you hear Harold Reynolds last night? Cedeno is a ROY candidate. Ah, ESPN. Always good for a laugh.
  3. I've heard nothing but good things about EPatt. At this point I'm almost as excited to see him on the big club as I am about Pie.
  4. Good post. I would also add the absurd Murton "out" call and the Pierre "check swing" from the Wrigley series to that list. I wonder if it's the same conventional wisdom that leads ESPN to excuse the purely and simply awful calls on Murt and Pierre as they did in the Wrigley series.
  5. Judging from this blurb posted earlier in the thread, I'd assume it went fine. At this point, as long as he is throwing pitches and not experiencing pain, I'll be happy.
  6. Because Hairston has a career full of productive hitting, and we can't have that on the team. Seconded.
  7. If this is true, I'm excited to see what this kid can do for us. I've been hearing about this kid for three friggin years - I am PSYCHED to see what he can do at the MLB level. I just hope that if he tears it up, they won't immediately ship him out for Doug Mientkewicz or some other scrub that can't help us near as good as a strong and healthy Guzman. I doubt it. Hendry has to keep an eye to the 2007 rotation with the possibility of, at least, 2/ 5 of this year's anticipated starters nolonger being with the club. The Cubs will need some quality arms. If Guzman pitches well I think he'll start for the Cubs next year. 2007: Wood Prior Maddux Zambrano Guzman  Substitute Marshall for Wood, and you'd have a nice rotation. I think JH may pass on Kerry after this season. No Wood on the Cubs would make me very sad. :? Haven't you gotten used to it during these last two years? Ok, cheap shot. I agree with you.
  8. Pot meet TLR. Indeed. Tony and hypocrisy go way back together. I can only imagine how he would've reacted had Maddux plunked Edmonds, knowing his past history with intentional HBP's. has maddux ever intentionally hit someone? or are u just talking about edmonds being Zs target? "His" meant LaRussa's referencing a book that came out last August (or August 2004, I can't remember). That's my fault, wasn't clear.
  9. I should have asked Dusty if he'd agree to a Q&A, huh? That would set a new record for "veiled criticism" questions...
  10. The DH is completely ridiculous. I couldn't ever root for an AL team strictly because of the DH. It's like arcade baseball.

  12. Gonna come back if the Astros don't make the playoffs? They play yet another bad team tomorrow in LA. It might be a while before they're far enough behind to be rid of him.
  13. Yeah there is a thread about it on page 2 of this forum I think.
  14. TT, Koronka was indeed out of options IIRC.
  15. Translation: With Derrick Lee out, I'm going to overmanage like it's 1999! Get used to it - double switches galore, sac bunts up the wazoo - Dusty's going to prove his managerial mettle. We're already seeing it with Ronny. If he's going to make the 2 slot completely useless by sac bunting all the time, the least he can do is put someone like Neifi there who has little chance of helping the team unless he is sac-ing.
  16. If I were MLB, I'd just shut down all of their message boards and encourage third-party boards, especially considering the reputations they have with better-run boards like this one.
  17. eat crow everyone who thought aramis would hit higher than .200 oh wait we've only played for two weeks That's the spirit. Spin whatever seems good into something negative. That wasn't spin. That's just Treeman's off-color way of saying "sample size".

  19. Murt's going to be ok. He's still taking walks and getting on base, which is what I loved about him to begin with. Patience and a good batter's eye don't slump even when the hitting does, and Matt's going to be right back to poking "crap singles" as they've come to be known before too long.
  20. Congrats to all! More proof that NSBB is in fact the premier Cubs message board!
  21. Just to rub it in that the game is on WCIU, ESPN will be airing the game and it will be blacked out here in Muncie even though we aren't in the Chicago market or really even close to it, meaning I'll be, like, the only person on this board who can't see the game. Woohoo!
  22. It's like last season, when it seemed like the White Sox were playing the Royals 35-40 times. I can't wait to get a shot at them.
  23. Great pick by Mabes to end it. Good to salvage one game out of this one.
  24. Dammit, streak over. First ER since 8/12/05 for Dempster.
