  1. What were the "Your with me, Leather" rumors? And now it reads "incoherently managed by Dusty Baker" According to the rumors, Berman is infamous for an incident in Scottsdale during Spring Training. I'll let a friend of Deadspin explain the rest...
  2. This is all making me quite jealous, as the best game I've yet attended was a 5-4 loss to San Diego on 8/12/04 when Nomar hit the go-ahead homer in the 7th and everyone went crazy. Unfortunately it was also the game where Sammy went 0-5 with 4 K's and was booed out of the stadium as I sat in shock wondering how the hell we could turn on someone so quickly. 2nd best game was a walk off win against Milwaukee last year when Holly scored Burnitz to win it. Woo de freekin hoo.
  3. I sure didn't. I just assumed he'd do it all year, or at least till he left STL.
  4. He's not a lefty, so we'll at least score 1 off him. I guarantee no more than 2 though, especially not when Dusty sits Walker and Murton (not that the latter is much good these days) for Neifi and Bynum. Putting Mabry at 1st over Nevin too I'm sure.
  5. Dusty wasn't even going to PH Walker for Pierre. Even in the event that Dusty gets away with ignoring him the first 3 times around, Walker should PH for Pierre, and if it gets to extras you move Womack at 2B to CF and put Walker at 2B. But Dusty wasn't going to do that. It is absolutely mind boggling. There is NO WAY one person is this stupid.
  6. Now says "allegedly managed by Baker"
  7. I want Samardzija to play baseball. He won't get drafted by Carolina next year anyway, so his post-ND football career really wouldn't mean that much. That said, 8M? Ridiculous.
  8. Burke: 5 times on base, 5 runs Pierre: 2 times on base, 0 runs Seriously, does Dusty need it written on the damn blackboard????
  9. There is not a single player on that list that really gets me excited. It could be a long 2007 if Hendry doesn't pull off another salary-dump deal with a small-market team. :(
  10. My favorite Rusch story was at the Cubs/Brewers game I attended on 6/29/05 when Kerry Wood left the game after 6 with the Cubs up 2-1. It took Glendon two pitches into the 7th to give up a home run to Lyle Overbay and tie the game, giving Wood a no-decision.
  11. He had Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling. And a juiced Luis Gonzalez. And Mariano Riveria botching an easy comebacker DP. When I listen Brenly "stratigize" during the games, I am fairly confident that he would be a worse manager than Dusty. He wanted to bunt to first for five innings to see if Edmonds can play first. Brenly has said many stupid things in the year and a half or so as color man, but that wasn't one of them. He only kept saying that because the Cubs were too stupid to ever try.
  12. First Cubs game - 5/5/00. Sammy and EY each hit solo homers, but Pittsburgh won 4-2.
  13. All you hafta do to stop the Heat is let Wade go, he's gonna score, stop Shaq, and hope Antoine Walker makes his first three attempt of the night. If he makes the first one, he'll shoot all night, if he misses his first 3 or 4, he'll start passing them up. Mavs got this one. If they sweep I win ~$130, if they win in 5 i win ~$70. I got my "I am a Nowitzness" shirt in the mail the other day. Awesome. The Heat have been rather unspectacular all playoffs. I was surprised they got past even a deflated and unemotional Pistons team. The East is rather....meh. (Which means to me the Bulls could compete for the East title as soon as next year) I agree. The Bulls are one more solid bench player and a competent big man (Roy and Przybilla?) away from being one of the best in the East.
  14. Game 6 - in my room at home, not really grasping the enormity of what was going on. At the time I was just down that my team had failed to clinch a WS berth, not really realizing that a generation of fans were dying all over again watching the game. Nomar trade - Watched the game (Saturday game - Clement pitching with trade rumors swirling). Went to work. I'd stated previously that I wasn't willing to give up Clement to get Nomar (I'd still stand by that). Friends came in to see me and tell me that we'd gotten Nomar for Gonzo, Harris and F Beltran. I couldn't concentrate the rest of the evening.
  15. It's like this guy wants to be abused. What an ass.
  16. I thought I heard Len say something about 2007 being Z's last year under Cubs control a few days ago...
  17. Not well enough for Jim I'm sure. Then again, he got Nevin, not exactly a GG 1B.
  18. It was the last sentence's philosophy that made Corey so bad with the Cubs.
  19. We need to tie this thing. Teams leading by two at half are 73-0-4 in World Cup history :(
  20. If the Sox go ahead and play with only one of them, whichever one is in there would hit 3 home runs to make up for the lack of the other one, because this is the Sox. :x
  21. I'd take all five of those guys on my staff any day, and twice on Sunday, and I would be very happy. IMO, Schmidt got screwed out of the CYA a couple of years ago. The year you're thinking of was 2003, and Mark Prior was the one screwed out of the Cy Young. 18-6, 211 IP, TWO FORTY THREE earned run average, 1.10 WHIP, .233 BAA Schmidt had a 1.08 WHIP and a .202 BAA, but his ERA at 3.20 was nearly a full point higher than Mark's. The only reason Mark didn't get the award was that he didn't get 20 wins, giving the voters an excuse to give it to a reliever. (Granted, Gagne had the save streak, but saves are such an arbitrary stat that Prior should've gotten the benefit of the doubt in that case) You're looking at the wrong year. In 2004, Schmidt had a 3.20 ERA In 2003, Schmidt had a 2.34 ERA. Schmidt had 17 wins in 2003. Oh. Right. Yahoo has your last 3 seasons...Prior hasn't pitched, Schmidt has. Mayhaps Schmidt did deserve it although my biased vote would've still gone to Prior.
  22. The only task for me is to wake up in time for the game...the movie theater business isn't very busy during the week, so I have the day off. GO USA!

  24. Dunno, but it definitely maximizes the level of pissed off I get when a CSN Cubs game is put on ESPN and blacked out in Muncie, Indiana, a place where there is no CSN Chicago.
