  1. My gripe is that Clemson fell 9 spots for losing to VT on the road. USC falls only 6 for losing to a vastly inferior (to VT) team on the road. And Cal jumps ND without even playing (the 2nd week in a row that's happened). They are a better team, but how is that suddenly the case now as opposed to the week before? And what did ND show in a 24-point win over Navy that deserved dropping behind them? The sheer ridiculousness of the polls sometimes baffles me.

  3. Somehow USC didn't drop behind ND, and Cal jumped us (admittedly should have been ahead of us already). This is getting a tad out of hand.
  4. Not if the mighty Ball State Cardinals have anything to say about it next week.....oh my goodness thats going to be bad. Has a football team ever won a game by more than 100 points? Michigan's offense isn't that great. Plus Lloyd Carr just runs the ball when he plays physically overmatched teams. Probably will only be a 30 point win by scUM. I predict 56-10 if Manningham plays, and I'd be shocked if he does. 45-10 if he doesn't. I'll be there so I'll be sure to report back on how much my friends and I are made fun of. Let us known how many Michigan fans are condescending to you and act like they're God's gift to the world because they go to The Harvard Of The West. I'll admit that my first draft of my previous post in this thread looked more like Truffle's than my final copy.
  5. Thx every team playing a team ahead of ND for choking at the end of the game Although I guess that's residual karma for the UCLA/MSU games And Texas Tech's quarterback made more bad throws in that game than I can remember seeing in quite a long time

  7. Me too. Last year was depressing. This year is sad but really almost funny just because of how mediocre a team the Cards really were most of the year.
  8. Of all the near-misses today, the only team that actually loses is the one ND didn't necessarily need help to pass (pending Texas I suppose). Pretty typical of the sports weekend. And BSU beats Miami OH 20-17 despite being outgained by 130 yards to go to 3-6 (3-3 MAC).
  9. 1. Lots of Cubs fans go to their parks and act like a-holes. 2. Unbearable smugness during the pre-injury Wood/ Prior era, when we all thought the Cubs would dominate the division for the rest of the decade. There wasn't a baseball fan alive that didn't think the Cubs would be dominating the NL for the rest of the decade in 2003. And now I'm even more depressed.
  10. Probably true. I'd definitely feel happy for all my friends who are lifelong Cubs fans, and I'd be okay with guys like Derrek Lee, Barrett, Z etc get rings, but on a personal level I'd be fuming. Probably much like you guys. Honestly, last night takes a lot of frustration and animosity out of baseball for me. That's what I hear - that once your team has won it all once, you can have more fun rooting for them. Kinda like the pressure is off. Dunno what it feels like but that's what I hear.
  11. how so? If we're playing in Wilt's era when there weren't as many good big men to compete with, then you have to go with Wilt. But in today's game Wilt wouldn't be near as dominant as he was in his day simply because there are more good big men. I'd take MJ if we're starting anywhere after 1975.
  12. Hard enough to divvy up the minutes without giving them to guys that aren't on the team, eh?
  13. As usual, kudos to Navy for making the Irish work early before the talent differential really showed itself in the 3rd quarter. Brady had a couple of really freaking good throws, especially his first TD to Grimes. BSU and Miami are tied at 7 at the half.
  14. I couldn't pick one moment if I tried. It was just the most fun season of baseball I've ever followed, less the last couple of weeks.
  15. You got to do that for what? 2 and a half seasons? I wonder when the last one before that was. I can't count 2001: that was Sammy and the Sosettes. 1998 was pretty much the same. 1989 wasn't really that good. I guess 1984 was the last team before 03 that could truly be considered competent.
  16. I'd like to note that in the 6th inning, directly after Duncan Adam Dunn'd a ball in RF with 2 out, I said, "If the Cards are really as butt ass freaking lucky as they've been all decade, Pudge will K on three straight pitches." Pudge K'd on three straight pitches. I'd also like to note that God will have to outdo Himself to make this any worse for Cubs fans in 2007. Blowing a 3-0 lead with HFA against STL in an NLCS might do it, but I'd think it'd have to be even more ridiculous than that.
  17. I'm more excited for the Bulls than any season since...well, September. But I'm REALLY pumped about Tuesday.
  18. Collusion? I call it not wanting to sign a clubhouse cancer who's on the wrong side of 40, can't field (eliminating all NL teams from signing him), and has a knee about as reliable as Dusty Baker's brain. But that's just me.
  19. I've resigned myself to STL winning but I want to see a Rogers/Carp Game 6 matchup.
  20. I don't like the Cardinals.
  21. I told a few friends of mine today, How far can this go? After 03, the two other "cursed" teams winning, 2nd of which being the White Sox in one of the luckiest baseball seasons in the history of mankind, the Cards winning in a season where even a moderately successful (instead of abject failure) offseason and even bad (instead of terrible) luck would have gotten us into the playoffs over them, I mean, how far can this "God hates us all" thing go? What else can go wrong? I honestly can't think of one thing that could rationally happen that could convince me any further that God hates Cubs fans.
  22. 2003 notwithstanding, the 2004 Cubs have to be among the most entertaining teams to follow in the history of sports. All the hype, all the talent, all the weird games, all the meltdowns, the subplot of the fans turning against Sammy, Zambrano having his best year to date (nobody noticed, of course), Wavin' Wendell, Maddux's 300th, Nomar, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.
  23. That's just the rain. We get a lot of it in the Midwest.
  24. Pity, I was half hoping for Dusty.
  25. I tried to keep a Cubs daily blog this season (including Cubs MVP for each game, rundown of when and how the game-winning run scored, winning or losing pitcher for the Cubs, etc), but by mid-May they had sucked all the life out of me in that regard. Of course, no one was looking at that one, so the thought of people actually viewing a blog would be enough motivation in itself to keep going even if they suck. :D
