  1. Cubs apparently talking to Rays about Nate Karns.
  2. It wouldnt surprise me if the dodgers give him his 200 million before the offseason either. There's absolutely no way that Friedman gives up Urias.
  3. Or, you know, bring up a legit baseball player like Schwarber to do the same thing.
  4. hmmm schwarbs will have to be in LF. Ross to the bench (even on lester starts) Yeah but we know that's not going to happen, and Coughlan has been like our 3rd best hitter this year. Coghlan to 2B, Castro to bench.
  5. [tweet]Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub 5m5 minutes ago Source: Latos, Morse to Dodgers for prospects. At least one competitive balance pick also to Dodgers. W/ Latos off board Haren still in play[/tweet]
  6. Yeah, the return for Papelbon is pretty underwhelming. Makes me think the Cubs don't have a lot of money to work with right now.
  7. I can't really see anybody taking on Castro's contract at this point.
  8. There's really nobody left in the system I'd shed too many tears over losing for Hamels (except Javy, but purely because I love him as a fan). I'm sure the Cubs would prefer to do quantity over quality, too.
  9. I'm a big fan of Quintana. Control through 2020 with a great contract. I wouldn't trade Schwarber, but I'd trade any other minor leaguers they wanted.
  10. how is a 4.3% walk rate "poor"??? That "poor" figure is currently tied for 7th in the league with Greinke.
  11. They could put Coghlan at 3rd and Bryant in CF and have the worst defense in the league.
  12. Ha that was exactly my thought. I figured it was going to be caught.
  13. The guy is 21 in AA with much-improved BB and K numbers. He's clearly going to take some time to develop, but I don't think we should start proclaiming that he's "never" going to be a good hitter.
  14. It's Randy Wells all over again. Exactly my thought. And Cole Hamels is Matt Garza.
  15. Only way it's acceptable is if the Phillies are paying enough of Hamels salary that the Cubs could turn around and add another starter in free agency.
  16. Wasn't the original plan for Edwards to be in the bullpen for a few months and then ramp up to a starter's workload in order to limit his innings? I never fully believed it when they said it in spring training, but given our need for a fifth starter I assume that idea is completely gone now.
  17. Yeah but let's see how he finishes the year before we pan him. If he doesn't get it together, well he's had bad years before and has turned it around the next year. True. And I know I'm about to state the obvious but the scary thing is...........we have no choice. I have irrational fears that Jon Lester is mentally rattled. That the big money and the focus on his throwing has gotten him way out of his comfort zone. I think signing someone like Price this offseason would end up taking a lot of the pressure of Lester having to pitch like an ace. Who knows if that's a legit issue he's having but it would at least take that excuse away from him. The worse Lester is, the less likely I see them doubling down on giving $150mm+ to pitchers over 30.
  18. I don't understand why any of these teams would trade these players. The White Sox have a historically bad offense with a maxed out payroll and no hope in the minors. Getting something like Baez, McKinney and another interesting bat like Zagunis could be intriguing for them.
  19. At this point, I doubt we could even get Matz back for Castro. And Castro isn't much of an upgrade (if any) over Flores.
  20. I think (hope for their sake) that Rick Hahn thinks differently than their fan base. No reason to avoid making a deal just so that he can avoid some incoherent rants at Soxfest in January.
  21. Unless we can rip off Amaro, I'd rather go after someone like Jose Quintana. His contract would still allow us to go after a Price/Zimmerman in the offseason as well.
  22. Any update on who's replacing Schwarber?
  23. You are in top form today. If any CBA change was impactful, it was the restructuring of comp picks. That's part of it as well, although their deadline deals have been great anyways.
