  1. Have to imagine the video boards will be up by the 23rd.
  2. lol You're getting Hamels for 4 or 5 years, Russell for 6.5. The years of control are almost identical, and Hamels is really good at baseball *right now*. How much longer will he be really good at baseball though?

  4. You also have to factor in that a pitcher of Hamels' quality will cost around $30-50 million more on the free agent market over the same time period, plus you'll have to give them significantly more money for several more years when they're in their mid-late thirties and suck. So if the Cubs think Baez is likely to bust, it's worth it to give him up in exchange for the massive cost savings+greater certainty+benefit to 2015. Although it seems like Amaro is aiming higher than Baez.
  5. If Baez flames out he will be the biggest bust I can remember. Way bigger than Paterson. It will be a failure of epic proportions. I don't think he will be a bust in the formal definition like Vitters, I think he kick around the league for several years ala Ronny Cedeno. Patterson was the #2 prospect in all of baseball. And he actually had some success in the majors. Baez will be just like every other huge power/huge strikeout prospect that has ever existed.
  6. Gotta believe this is an attempt to drive the price up on the Cardinals.
  7. I'm excusing him for Hoyer and Manziel and mostly excusing him for Locker. Not entirely on Locker, though. Locker wasn't even a good QB in college. I don't know why people expected him to amount to anything in the NFL.

  10. Over the past 3 seasons: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p228/irish1289/Fowler.jpg
  11. And everybody wanted the Cubs to get Khalil Greene?
  12. Given that we'd have to pay almost all of Jackson's salary just for someone to take him off of our hands, I'd just assume move him to the bullpen and see what he can do. It seems like a lot of people have pointed to focus as a big problem for him, and maybe that wouldn't even be an issue in the bullpen.
  13. Ronnie Stanley is staying at ND.
  14. Eh, he had a few good years. The comparison isn't really the problem, it's more that people think George was this horrible QB when he was mostly decent. I guess in that way he's very much like Cutler. Oh I agree, but Cutler's numbers are absolutely better than George's. George: 131 games, 57.9% completion percentage, 27,602 yards, 154 TD/113 INT for an 80.4 rating (and 41 fumbles) Cutler: 119 games, 61.7% completion percentage, 27,749 yards, 183 TD/130 INT for an 85.2 rating (and 45 fumbles)
  15. Neil O'Donnell got a 13 on the Wonderlic. Donovan McNabb got a 14. Bradshaw, Kelly and Marino, Cunningham and McNair all got 15's.
  16. Remember, he goes to Florida State.
  17. I wonder if this is personnel related. Doesn't want to be told he has to keep x or have to dump x. Or just money/control related. I can't see control being an issue but maybe he doesn't want to report into Phillips either. The good thing about the hire will be that Ballard already knows where this organization is inept, and if he takes the job that means something is being fixed before he even walks in the door.
  18. Who is this Joel Santiago? He's saying that Rasmus is signing with the Cubs. I've never heard of him but he's got some legit followers (Rosenthal, Wittenmeyer, Brett, etc.).
  19. Besides a much-needed bat for a year and an extra draft pick?
  20. Why does that hierarchy issue matter to you? As long as Phillips isn't actually the GM's "boss," I don't see any reason to care about whether there's a guy called the president of football operations above the GM or not. Right. People get too hung up on the "president" title, and sports radio was talking at length today how Phillips needed the "Crane Kenney" treatment. Doesn't everybody realize that Theo only got a president title to get him away from Boston, and Jed is a highly-paid assistant GM?
  21. LOL they haven't fired Tucker.
  22. Don't have to pay a president full-time.
  23. Yeah, I thought it was hilarious. Carmen said the Bears seemed to be "scared of him," and Marshall asked him to provide an example to back up his claim. Carmen couldn't.
  24. QB is absolutely a position of need. The position led the NFL in turnovers. But the combination of Cutler's contract and the numerous other needs across the team push it further down the list of priorities.
  25. *Theo shifts Addison Russell back to SS on his Baseball Mogul app*
