  1. It's going to be interesting to see where Schwarber lands on midseason top prospect lists. If you believe in him as a catcher, is he a top 5 prospect? Even as a LF, his bat has to put him in the top 25 at this point.
  2. I like that Hamels trade, and I have to think that's about as good as Amaro is going to get, especially since Boston isn't going to giving up a lot.
  3. I thought I saw an article saying that Ricketts previously purchased the mortgages from the bank.
  4. Don't forget when Steve Stone said he'd trade Aramis for Cesar Izturis.
  5. Eh, maybe, but he's not really close to Aramis in that regard. Yeah, Aramis was legitimately awesome and people completely ignored that. Castro is above average most of the time but people view him as a detriment to the team's success.
  6. Seems like a pretty logical fit. Of course, that assumes Amaro isn't asking for Soler and Schwarber in return.
  7. It's actually pretty deep, plus there are guys like Edwards, Batista, etc. that should be bumped up. I just see no reason to keep the guy.
  8. There are two reasons specifically. 1) DFA doesn't mean released. 2) He can be sent down to AAA without being DFA and there's no roster crunch. Well if you designate someone for assignment, they're removed from the 40 man roster but I suppose if you want to be technical the Cubs would still have control over him for 10 days. But AAA roster spots are for players who are prospects or serve as depth to the major league roster. Schlitter is neither at this point. There's no reason to waste an Iowa spot on him, let alone a 40 man spot.
  9. Even though it sucks that it's an off day, at least today will hopefully mark the final day of Schlitter in the organization. There's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be DFA'd today.
  10. Wada has to be one, unless his contract allows for him to stay down in AAA past his rehab period. Rivero the other?
  11. You really think somebody else is going to be better than LeBron before he hangs it up? Yes. In about 1.5 seasons he will have played more minutes (regular and playoffs) than Michael Jordan. In about 3 seasons he will have played as many minutes as Kobe if he never plays another minute. He will slow down at some point...in fact he already has. He can still put up peak LeBron performances, but not at the rate he has in the past. If you look at his advanced stats in the playoffs his numbers are lower than they have been in pretty much his entire career. This. LeBron is obviously tremendously skilled, but his best asset has been being bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic than everyone else. Give it 2-3 more years and that won't be the case. Hes already started to come back down to only insane human-level. Unless LeBron reinvents himself a la MJ adding the fade away, he will no longer be the best player in the world a few seasons from now. He could gain 20 pounds, move to power forward, and put up 20 & 10 seasons into his late 30's.
  12. From Keith Law's latest chat: Lewis (Tulsa) Have you had a chance to see Duane Underwood this year? Trying to keep SSS in mind, but seems like a lot to be bullish about. Klaw (1:46 PM) He didn't pitch when Myrtle was here, although I've heard the stuff has ticked up again. Might be their #3 prospect by year-end, after Schwarber (I'm assuming he doesn't get called up till late) and Torres. Klaw (1:46 PM) I guess it also depends on who they draft at #9. Latest rumor has them on Andrew Benintendi of Arkansas, a 5'9" or so LHH CF with surprising power. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/51780/mlb-insider-keith-law
  13. The Bulls will definitely be in a bit of a transition period. With Jimmy getting the max and Rose untradeable, they'll have to be smart in building the team around Butler and Mirotic without free agency. I have to think they'll look into trading Gasol and Gibson for some younger pieces.
  14. Any reports on Zagunis' defense? At what point does he surpass Almora?
  15. I feel like Kyle, but he's got a 2% walk rate and 45.5% K rate with a .381 BABIP. I find it strange that he immediately stopped walking when he got traded to the Cubs last year.
  16. Not sure why you'd say that. I guess if everybody hits, Torres would go to second and Russell to short.
  17. Good to see Rivero getting back on track. Hopefully he keeps this up for a few weeks and gets the call.
  18. Another example of [expletive] pitchers. We better draft Kyle Tucker.
  19. Who do you mean by "they"? Lebron is the head coach of that team. He'll start guarding Rose when he decides it's necessary.
  20. I thought today would be a day off for Soler.
  21. We could try Donn Roach, but I fear he's going to be Schlitter part II. Rivero just needs a week or 10 days to stop walking people and giving up runs, and then he'll be up.
  22. I'm not going to go through three years of alternative offseasons. That'd be lunacy. I know I put out a few in the past (not for this past offseason, but the ones before). It involves a tremendous amount of hindsight, though. For example, Puig. By all accounts the Cubs were very aggressive in trying to sign Puig. And this whole argument has been rehashed many times, and it really comes down to the fact that some people (such as Kyle) believed that the Cubs had some real talent on the team when Theo took over that could be supplemented, while others didn't.
  23. The Cubs are going to promote two of the top 5 prospects in the game this year, and still have a top 3 of Schwarber, Torres and Almora. Pretty impressive.
