  1. i wish the Yankees would take him as the centerpiece for a Miller trade. Have to think they'd aim higher though.
  2. how can one hate a team where Darwin Barney led in WAR (4.6) ? I had no [expletive] clue Darwin Barney had a 4.6 win season. That is simply beyond the realm of comprehension even if 2/3rds of it was defensive. We should have sold high on him instead of making him 'part of the core' temporarily. That makes me question the usefulness of WAR.
  3. Coghlan seemed pretty devastated when we traded him. Hopefully this lights a fire under him and he bounces back.
  4. He has the chance to be a pretty solid fourth outfielder, especially if he can play CF.
  5. I wouldn't be so sure that Ventura is healthy. Velocity down, walks up...
  6. and apparently Heyward watched some meatballs Both Heyward and Dex had a quite a few very hit table fastballs.
  7. Unless the Red Sox are willing to trade Bogaerts or the Dodgers are willing to trade Seager, I don't think there's anybody comparable to Russell or Bryant that the Angels could get from a realistic trade target. So in that case, Schwarber + Soler + Baez + any and all prospects that they want might get it done if they were intent on trading him.
  8. You bring up good points. The thing about Trout is that he plays the one position where we don't have a definite long-term answer. So in addition to being the best player in baseball, he actually fits a need. And if we trade Bryant or Russell, we still have long-term answers at their positions.
  9. You have to give up one of Bryant or Russell but are able to pull off the trade without having to give up both. Which one do you trade? I lean Bryant.
  10. Not really interested in giving this version of Jake 7/175
  11. Has there been any studies showing that high exit velocity correlates with long-term success? My first instinct is that it's obviously a good thing, but I haven't seen anything to back that up.
  12. it is...but is he going to be a good enough offensive player that it's worth hurting KB's long term value and possibly pigeon holing him as a COF when he's a very good 3B? i know we can just throw him back at 3B if we want to...i'm just not that comfortable with jerking him around, for lack of a better phrase, and moving him off and then moving him back up the defensive spectrum. obviously, if he is, then it's fine, because what makes the cubs a better team is more important than preserving/prioritizing an individual player's value...i'm just not sure there's any way to know at this point if javy is good enough to say that. We're trying to win the division. If putting Javy at 3B improves the defense in LF and 3B (and offense), so be it. We're not Scott Boras, so I'm not sure why we should be caring too much about maximizing KB's long-term dollar value at this point by keeping him at 3B.
  13. Might as well at this point. We're playing well without him and could use the extra roster spot.
  14. It was meatball'ish, sure. However, the difference for me is that Rodriguez made a spectacle out of it (during the WC game & yesterday). The only difference is that one is on the Cubs and one isn't. Lackey is a turd, but he's a turd that fills a necessary role on our favorite team.
  15. Shouldn't be too hard. Jack is injured and Floyd isn't that good.
  16. This about sums up the anti-RB argument and is just meaningless. Sure, you can find it in a 3rd - 4th round guy. You can find a Hall of Fame QB in the 6th and HOF defensive end in the 8th if it still existed. You can find pro bowl qbs in grocery store aisles as well. It's not about whether or not you can theoretically get the same production later. Your list is an argument against taking multiple RBs in the first round every year. It's not an argument against a RB being worthy of the 11th pick of the draft. I can't find it, but there was a recent article finding that RBs aren't that much different than every other position in that the elite are typically found in the first round and there's not a lot of value in RBs taken in the middle rounds (although there's value in the 6/7 round and UDFA).
  17. I don't think they know yet. Don't you have to wait for the swelling to go down to do an MRI? Yeah, I think that's right. I vaguely remember that with Rose's first knee injury.
  18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRzsv4vHNDs "Valiant" leadoff hitter? Is that really how their beat writers describe their players?
  19. Has Ricketts said whether the money from the hotel will actually go back into the Cubs?
  20. He'll probably start late to limit his innings.
  21. I think he's falling into the second round at this point. Would love to see the Bears grab him though.
  22. Hopefully this means that we're signing Austin Jackson
  23. The Cardinals' version of Respect 90 is much, much different.
  24. The best MIF prospects usually play SS in the minors, so there usually isn't as much talent at 2B.
