  1. I think Nagy's my guy. I like the idea of a younger coach, Andy Reid's coaching tree has generally done well for itself. Pat schurmer and brad childress? Shurmer has made Case Keenum and Nick Foles look good. I can't blame anybody for failing with the Browns.
  2. I have no doubt that the Bears can find a good head coach on either side of the ball. I was always a big fan of Lovie as a HC. My preference for an offensive coach has more to do with the fact that I’d like to see Mitch stay in the same system for several years. I don’t think that happens with a defensive-minded HC.
  3. Nope. Mitch needs one offensive system to work under. Go with that guy as hc and you'll never lose him to a higher job. Yep, this is the main reason I want an offensive-minded HC.
  4. Bears have requested to interview Steve Wilks, Panthers DC.
  5. I'd rather use Russell to headline an Archer deal.
  6. I tend to agree that something is going on. The swiftness and force of the denials was pretty telling.
  7. They broke Quintana to the Cubs as well (or at least did it in tandem with wetbutt).
  8. According to Levine, Theo and Jed are in Dallas, presumably to meet with Darvish.
  9. Also, the Bears shouldn't have fired Lovie. Lovie is pretty much John Fox The players had a lot of respect for Lovie and always played hard for him. And they typically played disciplined football. I don’t see that with Fox.
  10. If we don't get Harper, I'd give the money to Machado. He's one of the few that I'd replace Addison with.
  11. Is that a legit report or is that simply the result of the NY Daily thinking everything revolves around the Yankees?
  12. Not a fan of Kintzler, but I don't think he'd be signed to be the closer.
  13. I keep noticing that popping up, but its just been writers insinuating it, with no quotes from anyone on the subject. If they do get Cobb, I'd suspect some small moves for additional depth. But, I don't think they'd still pursue an Archer deal or anything like that. I think it'd have been a hot topic all off season if we were doing a true 6 man. I don't think the local beat writers would be pulling it out of their ass without hearing whispers at least. They aren't smart/creative enough for that. Way too outside the box for them. I think it was Muskat (no idea why I was reading her) who said that Maddon actually wanted to do it last year but Bosio and certain veterans (going to assume Arrieta and Lackey) were against it.
  14. And health. I have my doubts that Chatwood makes it through this contract relatively unscathed.
  15. Does this mean no Cobb?
  16. According to Woj, he has no shot at being drafted.
  17. His talent as a hitter is nowhere near his talent as a pitcher. But I think he's been projected as a 4th outfielder/fringe starter type as a hitter.
  18. Name an example to ease my concern Coaches who do better their second time around? Belichick, Carroll, Kubiak, Coughlin.
  19. Hate to say it, but he was probably right about Cutler.
  20. I don't know where you get Schwarber being near 4 WAR because baseball reference has him at 0 for 2017 and 1.1 for his career. I agree that Almora can be a 3+ CF. You might be right about Happ being a 2-3 player and being as good as it gets. I just don't understand posters willing to be patient with the youth offensive flaws of Russell, Schwarber, etc., but aren't willing to see what Happ can do. The potential of a 30+ HR, switch-hitting, fast, versatile 23year old is not something to quickly dismiss. Russell and Schwarber have higher offensive ceilings than Happ, which is why I'd rather keep them. And if I'm choosing between two young 2B with power and contact issues, give me Javy.
  21. I'm all for trading Happ because he doesn't really have a position and I don't completely believe in his power long-term, but this talk of trading guys like Russell for a pitcher who will probably blow his arm out at some point is ridiculous. Am I the only one left in the horsefeathers pitchers camp?
  22. Oh, and people knew "he" spoke like that, too. How easy is it to be a catfish? [tweet]https://twitter.com/alexatheworst/status/928428476192972800[/tweet] How can you be "romatically involved" with somebody you know on twitter?
  23. What's preventing Otani from negotiating a deal with a player opt-out after one year? The MLB presumably can't hammer the team if it's the player that insisted on it.
  24. And they could have had Bryant in that mix. As I shutter.. Springer is the same age as Rizzo.
  25. I don't consider the Dodgers interchangeable with the Indians. Going by RIIGHT NOOW: The Dodgers have Kershaw (yeah, ok), Old Man Hill (who can barely throw over 100 innings and will be 38, which is old), Wood (who is ok but seems to get hurt a lot), Maeda (who isn't good), and a few guys who may or may not be alive. The Cubs have Hendricks (the young wolf), Quintana (the young Lester), Lester (the old Lester), Montgomery (the young Rich Hill - I was surprised to learn that Montgomery only pitched 5 fewer innings than Hill and was worth .3 more wins) Even if you throw Tseng in the 5th spot, that's still probably an above average rotation. There are several teams with a more solid current 5, "rotation collapse" just seemed really dumb to me. The Dodgers also have Walker Buehler
