  1. He’s probably the best QB they’ve had in the modern era, young or old.
  2. It’s worse than negligence. They have means and the opportunity, but not the motivation. Their little club of greedy bastards will scorn them if they do. So they’ll keep their millions in the name of fiduciary responsibility and the rubs will eat it. What on earth are you talking about?
  3. That should be viewed as the Ricketts’ problem, not the Cubs’ problem.
  4. I look forward to trading him in a package for a reliever.
  5. Oh, that's all? Jorge De La Rosa was our closer at the end of the year. We're starting from scratch.
  6. Given the way that the game is changing, I'd pass on Hamels. He was great this year, but I'd rather spend every available dollar on Harper and the bullpen. Smyly/Montgomery is fine for the regular season. I'd look to add 3-4 legit pen arms, with Morrow being the only guy I'd definitely bring back.
  7. It's Hamels' side day, right? If he goes 2 or so innings tonight, it wouldn't be short rest.
  8. I'm sure we're going after Harper/Machado no matter what happens in this game (or the rest of the playoffs).
  9. They move the ball well on offense and eat up a ton of clock. They simply can't execute in the red zone. Is success in the redzone similar to BABIP in that it will eventually regress to the mean over time?
  10. Thanks for the video. Velasquez has a better swing than I thought he would have.
  11. Two things I keep telling myself: 1. Outside of the Dodgers, none of the other NL contender offenses are very good. And the Cubs are right with the Dodgers in terms of wOBA, wRC, etc. 2. We should only need the starters to go 4 innings, 5 max. Their main task will have to be avoiding a first inning implosion, which they've been prone to do this year. If we can get one starter per series (my money is on Hendricks) to go 6 or 7 per start, our bullpen should be able to handle short starts by the rest of them.
  12. Huh? A prep player that is throwing 94 at 18, will in the vast majority of cases, still be throwing 94 as a 21 year old as long as his arm has been healthy. There have been some studies showing this. The studies were actually aimed at finding out the percentage of players that see their velocity increase from their prep years. (spoiler, actually not that many). That's interesting. I'd be interested to see the article if you have a link. I always thought it was fairly common for a young pitcher to lose velocity.
  13. I hope they get Conley.
  14. Rollie Lacy scratched tonight, per Mooney
  15. I think Theo has absolutely zero faith in Chatwood's ability to turn it around this year, and getting another starter allows us to bench Chatwood once Yu comes back. He can't be going four innings and walking seven every five days if we're in a division race in September.
  16. Given the emphasis on bullpens in the playoffs, I’d rather devote resources to the bullpen to make it as strong as possible for October. But I think the rotation has reached the point where we need to throw away some useless prospects to get a guy who will eat innings for the rest of the regular season.
  17. I want Alvarado from the Rays. Not sure if the Rays would trade him though.
  18. Certainly useless as a trade chip.
  19. Albertos is pretty worthless at this point.
  20. Given his size, I doubt he sticks as a starter.
  21. Amaya is far and away the #1 prospect for me. I'd probably go with Hoerner after that.
  22. Just what the Rockies need-another outfielder.
